Fighting the Feeling

Erika was one of the best prosecution lawyers in a small city in New York. Her best friend, Alexis, was also a lawyer and they spent most of their times complaining about their failed love lifes. Alexis had an ex husband who Erika found to be very attractive. The two, Erika and Alexis' ex husband, fought constantly. They never got alone but they were harboring an attraction for one another.

One day, Erika receives flowers at home and they happen to be from Alexis' ex husband who Erika has a crush on. Erika was sitting at home going through multiple case files when she decided she wasn't getting anywhere with her work so she decided she would head to the club, hoping to find a sophisticated man. So, Erika puts on her simple black dress and heads for the club.

She scans the club with her eyes and mainly sees teenagers grinding on each other. Erika didn't like things like that. She liked a man who knew how to charm her but also who wasn't all about sex. Erika glanced the room again and her eyes landed on Alexis' ex husband. She cursed silently, praying that Alexis' ex husband didn't spot her.

Vin didn't really want to be there. Things with Alexis were just getting worse. His buddies insisted on dragging him to the club for some fun. It wasn't his scene at all.

He couldn't believe he sent flowers to Erika. He couldn't even believe his own lame excuse. What was he thinking?

He looked up and there she was. Wow, she looked hot. It seemed like the only good thing from his life with Alexis was meeting Erika.

He took a deep breath. There was definitely mutual spotting. He was going in.

"Erika. Hey, wow, I knew it was you when you walked in."

He looked her up and down. "That dress looks amazing on you. Listen, about the flowers...

"I kind of got them for free as a promotion, I had to name someone right there on the spot, and you were the... only... person I thought of who might like them. So... how did you like them?"

Erika rolled her eyes when she saw him. She hated his ass for the way he treated her best friend, Alexis.

"Don't send me flowers ever again, they were highly inappropriate.," She tells him. "And I don't need you trying to hit on me so go find some slut who will appreciate your tacky comments"

"Erika, I know that things between your friend and me could have been better. I take the blame for my share of the problems. But she was so much worse, and she created an ugly side in me. You're her friend. You have to admit, she'll not completely emotionally stable."

"Vin, I don't want to see you and I sure as hell don't want to talk to you." She said, putting a firm hand on her hip. She couldn't stand him. He was inappropriate and most of the time just a jack ass.

"Okay, be that way. I didn't think you were as much of a bitch as Alexis, but I guess that's why you're such good friends."

He started walking for the door.

She grabbed his arm. "Excuse me." She snapped at him. "You're the jackass who cheated on my best friend." She said. "So don't be getting an attitude with me"

"Of course I cheated on her," he told her. "She didn't like fucking nearly as much as I did. And when she did me the favor of sex, she was horrible at it. Besides, we were way over before the divorce. She kept making up problems which led to real ones, like me actually getting laid."

"What else did she tell you I did?"

"Well, just because you had issues, doesn't mean you had to go back the next thing you saw walking by." She said.

"You're such a pig."

"I don't expect you to understand. All you do is work and get pissed about some little thing some man does. No wonder you're as unhappy as Alexis. You probably haven't gotten laid in years.

"It's like all you want do is be angry. A guy who likes you for how hard-working and smart and nice you are sends you flowers, and the word 'inapprorpriate' flies out of your mouth, as if you never learned the meaning of 'thank you.'"

"Why am I wasting my time? Good bye."

"Oh, I'm sorry if I take relationships seriously and I don't fuck every guy that comes around." She said. "The only reason why you sent me flowers was so you could stick it to Alexis."

"Wow, Ericka, you think just like her. Most human beings don't go around trying to 'stick it' to other people. Do you really think I care about what Alexis thinks? I'm happier than ever. I have her out of my life.

"She told me she was fucking some guy, as if to rub my face in it. After I told her I feel bad for him, I told her I was fucking someone else. Do you know what she said to me? She said, I can't believe that bitch Erika backstabbed me. And she wouldn't believe me when I told her it WASN'T you! She knew I liked you and she blamed you. She's crazy."

"Well maybe if you weren't such a dick all of the time, maybe I could like you." She said. "But you're always this egotistical jack ass."

"I don't think I am." She said. "I'm much better than she was. I actually can be nice if a guy isn't a total jerk all the time."

She stepped up at him. "I actually liked you once upon a time before you started being an egotistical jerk."
