Gettin' ready for NFL '09!!!
Okay, I fumbled... didn't realize the first pre-season game was tonight.
Let's start the pre-season next week (sorry, y'all), and use that as a warm-up for the real season, starting 9/10, k?
I'm sorry.

LOL - I already listed you as a player in the grid... I figured there was no chance you would pass it up.
Still lookin' for Daddy2, ShyGuy, and any others interested in participating to let me know... MisterSir, you going to join in on the fun? The price is right - it's free - and the potential winnings are tremendous... almost a year's worth of bragging rights if you win. Or even if you come in somewhere between first and last.
But! There's lots of time left before I start the "Official 2009 Lit NFL Pool" thread
We'll play the pre-season in this thread, then move to ^^^ for the regular season.

Sure. KC played one year and she picked the teams with the prettier uniforms.

Yeeeeeeee-
No.
Kidding. But seriously, I feel dirty enough I picked Welker in my fantasy draft and that was a fucking value pick like no other - fourth round, 12 team draft, point-per-reception. Fourth round!

I don't look at the uniforms but some of those men I have submitted to in my fantasies.

Of *course* you can! It's open to any and everyone who wants to play, the more the merrier!
Oh! One thing we need to decide over the next couple of weeks - are we going to play heads-up or the line? (Just who wins, or who beats the LV spread? E.g., if Team A is playing Team B and Team B is favored on the LV line by 6 1/2 points, do we just pick who wins the game by NFL rules, or do we pick A+6 1/2 points or B-6 1/2 points? Example of the difference: A plays B, who is favored by 6 1/2. B wins, 30-24. Heads-up, those who pick B win.
Playing the line, because B didn't win by 6.5 or more, those who picked *A* would win.) Let's get a consensus opinion; however, I'm going to arbitrarily say that it will take a supermajority over 75% to play the line, simply because those who *really don't like* or don't understand playing the line would probably drop out if we are, while those who favor the line will more than likely play either way, and as I said before, the more the merrier! (And there's no $$ on it, so going to that level isn't as important. *I* wouldn't play in a money pool of more than $5 a week (not *per game,* per WEEK) in a heads-up situation.)

I say play the line. I don't get to do it over here, here the bets are heads-up and no compromise.

I think I won it last year?
If I did, then I have to defend my crown.
And I say heads-up. Only cause I have no clue how to play the line.
Oh and......

I don't have a problem playing the line but some who aren't familar with it might. We have always played heads up in the past.
I can experiment with it on the college thread. It gets fewer takers anyway.

It's not difficult. Each week, a day or two before the first game, I'll post a list of games being played, e.g., "A @ B, C @ D," etc. You pick the team you expect will win for each game. For the tie-breaker game, you pick the winner, *and* the total number of points the two teams will score in that game.
After the Monday night game (or the last Sunday game when MNF stops), I'll post the number of correct/incorrect picks for each player and announce the winner(s) for the week.

In the meantime, given that I'm drafting ninth in a twelve-team, point-per-reception league, how'm I looking?
QB - Matt Hasselbeck (round 5, #57)
RB - DeAngelo Williams (round 1, #9)
RB - Larry Johnson (round 3, #33)
WR - Andre Johnson (round 2, #16)
WR - Wes Welker (round 4, #40)
We play with that lineup, a tight end, a W/R flex and a defensive unit. I'm thinking about jumping the gun on the defense and picking them either in the sixth or the seventh, but the various mocks I've seen have the first unit going about the ninth round, which is curious. Thoughts? I'd be going with Baltimore, Minnesota or Pittsburgh, in order of preference.

Tony Gonzalez is usually productive at tight end. I think he'll do well in Atlanta. Hope so anyway.

Hasselbeck is a great underrated pick if he can stay healthy all year. Williams is a great pick. Larry Johnson is a little iffy. Depends on if he stays healthy. Johnson and Welker are HUGE picks. You should get a lot points from them.

I would go Pitt - Baltimore - Minn. Only because no one knows yet if the Williams DTs will be suspended by the league or not for 4 games. Without them, the Vikings are only a decent defense.

If it does pan out, and I have no reason to think it won't, I'll be bragging about Welker for years. My reason for picking LJ is that a) I'm going to take Jamaal Charles as the handcuff anyway and b) with Cassel as his quarterback I have a sneaking suspicion things might go a little smoother for him. Besides, as a third-round pick he's better value than the guy who picked LT 8th.
