She wanted to cash in her chips....
Mom locked tot in car, gambled at Windsor casino
By CECIL ANGEL • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • August 7, 2009
WINDSOR — A 32-year-old Ontario woman faces child abandonment charges after police say she left her 6-month-old daughter in a car in a parking structure while she gambled at Caesars Windsor.
According to police, security officers at the casino noticed the baby in a car seat in the locked vehicle at 12:25 a.m. Thursday. “The baby was sweating profusely but was otherwise in good condition,” police said in a statement.
The mother, who lives in Tilbury, a town east of Windsor, was paged over the casino’s intercom to come to her vehicle. When she arrived, the woman was issued a trespass notice from the casino.
Police said the woman upon receiving the ticket asked if she could re-enter the casino so she could cash in her chips, as she had been on a roll. The Children’s Aid Society was notified and took custody of the baby as a child in need of protection.
A Windsor police investigation revealed that the woman had parked her vehicle with her child inside at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday and entered the casino alone. Surveillance video also showed that the woman returned to the car at midnight, looked through the window, then returned to the casino to continue gambling.
Police, who were called to the casino at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, said the woman faces charges of criminal negligence and child abandonment.

But she was checking on the baby every hour.
I don't see the big deal.

As long as she wasn't losing, who could fault her? When your game is on, your game is on. Right?

It's not a matter of whether she was winning or losing, but of WHY THE FUCK WAS SHE EVEN PLAYING THE GAME? She shouldn't have been anywhere NEAR the casino with a child of ANY age, let alone a baby!
If she needed to gamble (which is a separate argument), she should have arranged a babysitter at the very least. Now she's just lost a lot more than she could have won...

Let's promote the idea that casinos are natural magnets for lowlifes like carjackers and childnappers. I'm sure they would appreciate that image.
