Punitive damages
I was wondering if there is such a thing as punitive damages insurance. I called my car insurance company and they did not really have an answer. In this litigious world, I am surprised they did not have such info.

It's out there but nobody can afford it.

Punitive damages are awarded because you did something intentional... with malice I believe is the legal word. You can't get insurance to protect you if you do something intentionally.

Ahh OK. With a new driver, I panicked. All I need is for the kid to hit somebody walking down the street...

If he doesn't actually try to run someone down then insurance should cover. The only punitive damages I've heard of getting covered are corporate cases.

I don't know what it's like in your state, but where I live, you can get collision coverage, under and uninsured motorist coverage and liability coverage - which is for property damage and bodily injury.
If you're with a good company, their legal counsel will take care of everything if you end up getting sued, though I'm sure you won't need it.
Nice av

Totally. I'm getting me one of those gadgets that records speed, braking, direction, etc. I guess you put them somewhere in the car and then hook it up to the computer when they get home. Haven't actually bought it yet because I got a year to go.

Thats liability insurance. Most policies are 25000/50000
Get the upgrade to a 500,000 liability policy. It's not much more expensive.
Im sure you can get a million dollar deal too.
