Stimulus project requires 3000 workers
Work starts next month in Canada, ND, MN & WI.
Construction of a $3.4 billion crude oil pipeline to run 1,000 miles from northern Canada (Alberta isn't really northern Canada) to Superior, Wis., will start next month. More than 320 miles of the 36-inch pipeline will be in the U.S., and about 3,000 workers will be hired by Enbridge, Inc., the Canadian firm in charge of the project.
hmmmmmm
This appears to be a private stimulus......

You can bet most of it will be in the 5G position. Some new automatic rigs do a damn nice job with virtually no operator fatigue.

My only experience with mechanized welding was SAW and a humanoid did the root.

How long until they dump a few million gallons into Lake Superior?
And would anyone notice if they did?

Some do......I have no idea what's being used on this line.......They could use a non-fusible backing strip.....
I recall a line built using metal cored wire recently. Production rates were unbelievably high.

Oh, no doubt. Duly studied and approved and shoved through the process like a saber through a silk curtain, lubricated with golf club memberships and political contributions.

The treehuggers were on it back in 07 when the refinery at Superior was applying for permits to expand. They were worried about being Texified.

I'll reserve judgment, pleading ignorance. My knee-jerk opposition to new oil projects is at least as much geopolitical as "green."
If that dissenting voice was well-heard and eloquent enough, then the test was valid, I guess.

I have no idea. And the treehugger comment was a play on the URL of the link.....
The Canadians are developing the Alberta tar sands. I see that there's a parallel pipeline to pipe light liquids back to Alberta. Those will prolly be used for the extraction process. The tar sand people were once huge backers of an Alaska Highway route gasline from the north slope so that they could use the gas to process the tar sand. I've never liked that use of the gas, myself.
