I'm curious... clichés aside, what makes folks think dumb people have more sex? I don't think it lines up with my experience.

Now, I totally believe that dumb people are more likely to end up in positions of authority.

In my experience, stupid people are less likely to think through the consequences of casual sex, or to take adequate precautions to avoid pregnancy or STDs. Two stupid people who have taken too much alcohol are a sexual disaster waiting to happen.

In the UK the NHS has advice available for safe sex. The people who consult that advice are more likely to be of higher IQ than those who really need the advice. Back in the 1950s it wasn't uncommon for the NHS to have to tell couples what to put in where to achieve a pregnancy. The internet has made that scenario unlikely now - but stupid people still exist.

^ but that would just mean that stupid people have stupid sex -- as in, unsafe or otherwise unhealthy -- not more sex.

I still think it is more sex because they are unlikely to be selective in their partners or to refuse opportunities for sex.

Nature is selective and weeds out the stupid. OSHA on the other hand has now created third generation stupid.

Writing about stupid characters in your stories while fun is actually quite challenging - I don't know if you have found the same.

One of the most difficult stories I have written was a comedy called 'Debbie the Dumb Gold Digger', and it was a real challenge to keep coming up with dumb things for the titular character to do or say. Among other things she:

1. Thinks that the Titanic is fictional as it was in a movie and movies aren't real, only make believe.
2. Dislikes daylight saving because she can never work out whether to put the clocks forward or back, and ends up being two hours early or two hours late.
3. Struggles to read a children's book.
4. States her desire to visit Australia so she could go to Melbourne and see the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House.
5. Believes that spending two years in kindergarten as a child was a reward for 'being such a special little girl', but cannot figure out why she was always the oldest kid in her class from that point onwards.
6. Is seen as a target for indoctrination by an overly zealous religious girl, but proves immune to being indoctrinated as she is too stupid.

About fifteen years ago I knew a retired nurse who told me about having to explain the facts of life to a colleague. Colleague was also a nurse, married with two kids, but still didn't quite understand how it worked.

^ I once lived with a nurse. We were talking about nutrition and I had to explain to him that milk products were proteins.

Erm. . .
Excuse me, but I fear this may be confusing "stupidity" with 'ignorance'.
Just a thought. . .

The ability to be stupid is a gift all humans are born with.
Some of us just seem to use that gift far more frequently and intensely than others...

Ignorance can happen because people are too stupid to know that they don't know.

Some examples:-

" My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car it's designed to cut through a seat belt if she gets trapped
She keeps it in the boot... "

----
" While looking at a house, my brother asked the estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning. She asked, 'Does the sun rise in the north?'
When my brother explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for sometime, she shook her head and said, 'Oh, I don't keep up with that stuff.' "
----------
" I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me, 'Has your plane arrived yet?'... "
-------------
"While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. 'Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces.' "

Alas, the gene pool is unaffected. If killing off dummies improved the breed, we would all be fucking geniuses (geniusii?) because low-IQ would be bred out of the species. But a good way to coarsen humanity is to kill-off teachers.

"It ain't what you don't know that's bad, it's what you know that ain't so," or something like that. (Mr Dooley?) A number of educated fucktards still assert flat-earthism, earth-at-center-of-earth-ism -- and let us not neglect cretinists er I mean creationists, and other folks responding to the voices in their heads. It's obvious that IQ isn't the main/major driver of human evolution (at this moment). Good looks, smooth talking, guts and money make men and women attractive. Most people with higher IQs aren't the smoothest talking people; they think too much, are too self-conscious in that they aren't perfect, and they show it. Confidence is possibly the strongest aphrodisiac of all.

People with higher education more often use family planning, get children at older age, get fewer (fewer, right?) children, or none at all, as it interferes with their careers. Work comes first. Whether that's a sign of intelligence...?

I don't recall anyone here pushing racial cleansing. We DO know that neither intelligence nor lack thereof are inheritable. More nurture than nature, then. Blame stupid or misguided child-rearing practices. The kids are noisy? Give-em beer and tablets. They'll stop bothering you... for now.

Ever read "The Marching Morons" by C M Kornbluth. I used to think it was science fiction but now I'm not so sure. A bit like "camp of the saints," it seems so prescient now.

That. Didn't Mark Twain say that "The man who doesn't read has no advantage over the man who can't read."?

And I think it was Will Rogers who said that "I've spent the second half of my life learning that half the stuff I learned in the first half of my life just ain't true."

I have a collection of clocks on display in a window of my house. They aren't antique or valuable - just odd. They are an attraction for visiting children.

BUT - some modern children don't know how to tell the time from a traditional clock or watch. They have the time on their mobile phone and that's in digital format i.e. 23:00 GMT as I write this post.

If the hands on my clocks have the small hand on 11 and the large hand on 12 - WTF is that? Some of the clocks have no numerals at all. You just guess from the position of the hands. And horror! Some have Roman numerals...

It's not stupidity. It's lack of knowledge.
