Categories (for Cuck stories)

Hello everyone

I don't know where I should put this thread, so I'm going to put it here...

I just wondered what everyone else thought about this subject, Loving Wives - seems like it should be the place to post cuckold stories, it's even described as being for 'Swingers, wife swapping, cheating wives and related stories'.

And yet, posting a cuckolding story in that category brings a landslide of abuse and 1* grades. The number of comments I've had which say '1* this is in the wrong category', begs the question - where should the cuckold stories go?

I can't help thinking it might be for the best for everyone if Literotica could introduce a 'Cuckold' category and save the poor authors from this unnecessary abuse.

In future I am posting Cuckold stories in Fetish, though it seems like the wrong place to put them, I just don't need the abuse and the depressing score.

Welcome to the AH.
LW sounds like the proper place, but you've not forgotten that you can withhold
comments for a story ?

Fetish seems to me like a reasonable alternative. I think it is a fetish. That may not keep you from the abuse though. People who don't like cuck will pick it up off the New list anyway.

I've never understood why people read stories they know they'll hate based on the title, short description and/or tags. Possibly they don't read them and just bomb them out of spite.

Hi

Yes I could turn off the comments, but I don't really like doing that because I did get some positive comments. I wouldn't mind some criticism if it was constructive and/or actually directed at the story or the writing, but it was largely four or five idiots arguing among themselves...

I don't understand why these people bother. I mean, okay they don't like cuckold stories, so why expend energy reading and commenting on them. I don't like lots of kinds of stories but I've got better things to do with my life than read them and then give the author abuse.

It just seems to me that Cuckold stories in particular would benefit from their own category.

So an Author would still be the trolls target;

It all depends how many eyes you want on the story. Posting in LW means more views but you have to take the good with the bad. Go to Fetish and you may not get the abuse but you only get 10% of the views.

Basically if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen but personally I like to get the good old boys in LW reaching for their blood pressure medication before they spew forth their illiterate bile and 1*.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the sweeps, one of my stories is sitting at 2.60 which is my lowest rated story by a long, long way.

I agree with the OPs idea that the site would benefit from additional categories or perhaps sub-categories within the main genres categories.

Cuck and bisexual sub-categories are the two most obvious adds, although I'm sure others can think of more.

While I agree in general we should be able to blow off the anonymous trolls and their 1* vitriol, it is frustrating to spend time on a story only to have it repeatedly hammered by people too close-minded to appreciate others may have turn-ons and fetishes that don't mesh with their own.

IMHO the cuck / wittol (willing wimp) sub-genre is a fetish that *can* be massaged into various LIT cats, depending on emphasis. How dominant are elements of BDSM, incest, non-con, multiracialism, SF&F, same-sex, etc? If a half-breed dickgirl cheats on their bonded but submissive twin, where do you post the story?

How such tales are received per category can be funny / problematic, especially if you obsess over numbers and responses. Decide: what do you (the auteur) expect in return for your submissions?

You can manipulate results by tailoring stories for specific audiences and thus gain many brownie points, which likely won't help pay your bills. Or you can write what pleases you and accept the inevitable slings and arrows. Whatever.

Thumbs down

Shouldn't we also be considering the readers here? In other words, give them the ability to find the stories they most want to read? I would think subcategories would only enhance the reader-experience

The categorization problem has consumed LIT for many years. Management has promised a tag solution Real Soon Now for about the last decade or so. Maybe by the heat death of the universe...

Current reality (since about 2001) gives us categories and the challenge of shoehorning our tales into the existing structure. Wish all you want -- this is what we have. And we're not paid for our work, so we get what we deserve.

The big downside to further subdividing categories is that it shrinks the reader audience for the story. Loving Wives may yield a lot of one bombs and lower than average scores, but it's got a fairly big audience. My one LW story is by far my lowest-rated story, but it received a relatively high number of votes and comments, and some people made it a favorite. I don't see the benefit of trading that away in exchange for fewer savage troll comments or bad votes.

I think some people are too concerned about bad scores and bad comments. To me, they matter only insofar as they result in my story being viewed less than it would otherwise. What matters to me is the amount of viewing, engagement, and feedback, and scores are only instrumental to getting them. Subdividing categories reduces the readership pool for one's story, so, to me, it completely defeats the purpose of dealing with the troll/bomb problem.

A better solution would be to place tags or disclaimers prominently over the beginning of the story so readers know what they are getting into. That might filter out some readers that probably won't like one's story. But my guess is that won't work either, because the anti-cuck trolls still will seek out those stories to bomb them.

I agree, putting tags at the beginning of the story is probably the best solution, both to tell a reader what is in the story so they can decide if they wish to read while also letting the writer convey what they think is important about the story.

If the only object is to solve what people consider troll voting then I doubt it would work, especially with a faction of the LW readers. If there was a specific cuckold category/ tag I believe they would descend en masse to try and vote down all the stories. As it is they will pop up in stories in other categories to rail against cheating wives and cuckolds wherever they find them and the tag might make it easier to find them. Despite that I still think it makes sense to put tags upfront.

I did this on the last few pieces I posted and will continue to do so if/when I get back to writing. But though I'll clearly state in the intro that it's a satirical incest sendup, I'll get complaints that it's... a satirical incest sendup. Just because my words float before a reader's eyes, doesn't mean they'll pay attention.

The downside of the intro warning is that quirky O-Henry endings are harder to place. I like trick endings. Should I telegraph them?

I was (am) confused about the correct category to shoehorn "cuck" stories into and so I put mine into "Erotic Couplings". The feedback has been all positive, but now I'm wondering if it should have been in "Loving Wives" and if it would receive more views in the latter category (since that's where people expect to find cuck stories).

That's what TAGS are for. Authors don't use them and I'm not sure most readers know about them. It would help readers. It won't prevent the "1*/Cuck shit" people. Nothing short of psychiatry will help them.

My consolation is they have to live in their own minds every day. I'm only forced to visit when I post something.

Stories in LW doesn't even have to include a humiliative cuck theme to attract the "1* cuck shit" parade. Normal wife sharing stories get that too. LW continues to be the most confused category on Literotica. Out of curiosity, I checked a while back on the themes of the stories that were nominated for readers choice last year, and it's a total mix. A few cuck, at least one romantic, and one sad story about a married couple's last sex before the husband dies. Hard to know for both readers and writers what to expect.

I think the answer to this is the use of tags. The site could post the tags above the story, so every reader knows what he/she is getting into before starting to read the story.

Trying to break LW into 2 or more categories is not as satisfactory a solution. And I say that as someone who has posted only one story in this category. It's by far my lowest rated story, with lots of vicious comments. But if you break this category into two, the posted stories will get fewer views. And that's the problem. It seems to me that a few troll-votes and troll-comments are worth the price of maximizing the readership for one's story.

The use of tags won't ward off all trolls. Some anti-cuck trolls will read your story anyway, and take delight in down-voting it. But the downside of troll-votes is outweighed, in my view, by getting more total views for one's story. And the truth is that LW is one of the more popular categories on this site.
