Serious question, why is it controversial to have separate restrooms for men, women?

Thru my life many social conventions changed, and little more than a century ago the norms were significantly different. I blame two forces: fashion, and a segment of society who need causes to champion. In the 50s cigarette machines were everywhere and sold to kids without question. In the 60s kids did the work that only adults do today. I got a drivers license at 14. I got spanked at school about once a week. I carried a gun and a knife as a youngster.

And look how great you turned out.

You whippersnappers think you got it so tough? Why, back in my day we didn't even have rain! We had to stand around in groups and spit into the air! And we liked it!

My point is: EVERY GENERATION RE-INVENTS THE WHEEL AND FIRE AND SLICED BREAD.

In England the Town Hall dignatories used to celebrate the opening of a new public toilet. The Mayor would arrive wearing his chain of office, there would be a brass band playing, and a formal cutting of the ribbon, or unveiling a plaque to commemorate the event.

Now council-run public toilets are closing everywhere because of budget restrictions. There is NO legal requirement for towns to provide a public toilet. The only certain locations are the Big M and larger supermarkets or department stores.

Some so-called public toilets are provided by developers of shopping malls but there may be a charge - not the old penny of the 1960s but 20 (new) pence or even 50 pence.

One of my achievements as a community activist is to get a new set of public toilets built in our town to replace some that were closed because of redevelopment of the site. Our local vandals trashed them within 48 hours. Now they are covered by CCTV and only get damaged once every six months.

Each year repairing vandalism costs our council more than the normal running costs of all their public toilets yet if someone gets caught doing the damage they usually get no more than a Police caution, not a fine. They are not asked to compensate for the cost of the repairs.

Some of our toilets were closed because they couldn't be adapted for disabled use for example because they were underground with a staircase, or several steps up from pavement level with no space for a ramp.

The toilets that are usually NOT vandalised, are cleanest and better to use are the disabled toilets because the user has to carry a special key.

When I use a public restroom I mind my own business and hope that everyone else does the same. Also a person born without a penis who identifies as a male, would not use a urinal for reasons which should be obvious.

A person born with a penis who identifies as being a woman is not likely interested in drawing any attention to themselves and will enjoy the privacy of stalls just like real women.

So what's your problem?

They have agendas? What are those agendas, specifically?

And what's a "feminazi?" Feminists and Nazis can't exist in the same universe; their disparate beliefs and praxis doesn't allow for mixing, fusing or blending. They're like heavy water and almond butter. Or like seeing a Spider-Man and Batman team up on the big screen, which would mean some major canoodling going on between Marvel, Sony and Warner Bros.

This, too. ^^^^

Which bathroom should these people use?

See, nobody ever answers that question. In North Carolina, they would be required by law to use the Men's rooms.

I agree with this.

hashtag was correct, I have posted about this before. Women fought for separate bathroom privileges, as a result legislation was passed that required public restrooms be provided for women and men.

The movement began in Great Britain when women started leaving their homes and entering the workforce because of WWI.

A town near here the council lavatories are staffed and charge I think twenty pence.maybe fifty. It seems reasonable to me. I'd rather pay and use something clean and maintained and monitored.

They CHARGE over there? Bathrooms here are usually free: either tax-payer funded, or if part of a private business the bathroom is sort of a courtesy. Well, if it's a gas station, you might want to buy an apple or a bag of chips, but I often just head for the door.

bloody tampons in the urinal

Guys are gonna love that mess!

The South Coast town of Hastings is still embarrassed about the mistake they made with a women's public toilet. They listened to a doctor who said that it was better for women to pee standing up so they provided special urinals for women to straddle.

They were a flop and had to be hurriedly re-equipped with cubicles. Even though the toilets were only in the original state for a couple of months decades ago - people still remember. :)

why do trans genders want to use girl bathrooms - are they being abused or attached when they try to use gender appointed bathrooms?

You are going to see a lot more stories like this.

I remember a news story on tv which showed a pic of this one dude that wanted to use the women's facilities at the college he attended claiming that he identified as a woman. The guy was wearing a sun dress and no make up. He had short black hair, body was noticeably hairy. Also had muscular arms and shoulders and no implants. Essentially, he looked like a white male college student that decided to put on his sister's dress.

Now I don't know about you, but I'm going to assume that there would be a shitload of female college students that would be extremely uncomfortable to use the locker rooms to change and shower with that guy being present.

Because that's the sex they feel they are. They identify themselves as female.

That is not a reason. I feel like I need more money, but I don't take it out of my friend's purse. So, should we have one gender bathroom?

just men appropriating femininity, but it's cool because gender is a social construct.
