But...but....you don't understand!

This place is his #CreativeWritingExercise !!!

He NEEDS those alts to make his points, it's part of the #ExorbitantCost that people who disagree with him must pay.

It isn't easy bein' the #BoardSheriff (even when you are #TheSmartestGuyOnTheGeneralBoard) when Laurel won't give you moderation authority.

Is There Any News In The New York Times That Is Not Fake?
by Francis Menton
December 19

I'm old enough to remember when the New York Times used to have long articles filled with facts and figures, data and statistics on one issue or another. Well, that was then -- before they had to lay off half the staff. Now they produce articles just as long, but the formula has changed. Instead of doing difficult leg work and collecting the real facts and figures, the new formula is to utter some obviously false statement as if it were a fact, and then fill in the rest of some multi-thousand-word article with standard-issue progressive talking points all dependent on acceptance of the false fact as the starting point.

Friday's example of the phenomenon was an endless "climate change" article which blamed the West African refugee exodus on global warming, backed up with ridiculous and obviously false statements about the African Sahel region, like "droughts [have become] more frequent and more fierce," and it has become "impossible to grow enough food" -- when everybody who follows the actual data knows that the Sahel region has become both wetter and more agriculturally productive in recent years.

Today's Times contains multiple more examples of the same phenomenon.

Yes, there is another one of these endless "climate change" articles, again occupying the lion's share of page A1 plus a page and a half (A14 and A15) in the interior. This time, they're trying to convince us that polar bears are "climate refugees" because they turn up at remote Alaskan towns to look for food at the local garbage dump. What is the evidence that polar bears are "climate refugees"? Please, don't expect any facts and figures on what is happening with temperatures or ice coverage in the Arctic; that would tax the poor reader's intelligence way too much. Instead, we'll just make one of those broad statements of "fact" without citing any actual source or data:

The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet, and the ice cover is retreating at a pace that even the climate scientists who predicted the decline find startling.
Can we actually confirm those statements from any independent source?...

...Looking at that chart, you might be forgiven for observing that Arctic temperatures had been dropping rather steadily since 2010, and then there was a spike just this past year associated with the 2015-16 El Nino. (And if you follow the subject, you will know that the 2009-10 spike was also associated with a major El Nino, while the 2015-16 El Nino-related spike has been rapidly dissipating all over the world in recent months.) So how exactly do we know that the 2015-16 spike has anything to do with human carbon emissions, or that it is anything more than a one-year El Nino-related anomaly? Somehow, in around 4000 words, the Times does not have enough space to address that question...

This amused me. I have no idea what you're talking about, but from the bits of rivalry I've seen thus far, I haven't decided if the people here are trying too hard or not trying hard enough. :)

I find this a little puzzling. What would be the point of someone using numerous other accounts to continue posting in the same way as they do as their regular account? I would assume someone else to be mimicking the person they'd like to see blamed.

We're not dealing here with the most sophisticated or intelligent trolls, so don't judge them by Your criteria

Of course I will decide about people based on my criteria. Whose would I use otherwise? Such an odd thing to say.

It's intriguing at first; it soon gets boring. It's very likely you will be accused of being an alt too. Shrug. it's the people that don't think they are fallible that are a tiny bit amusing still.

When threads like Noor's pop up, or data grumbling about Christmas I smile. It's so much better that the bickering and accusations which may in some cases be true, who knows? Who cares?

I posted in a thread I stumbled into not long ago that I found educational about this forum. I can't remember what they were bickering about, but it had the feel of being something done before and often. There was no drama, no zing, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Habit, I suppose.

An old co-worker rung me up yesterday. She was fired years ago during a weeks-long manic episode which she refused to get help for. It was heartbreaking. I haven't seen her for a couple of years, so I was very surprised to learn it was her on the the line. It was a very short and confusing call. Her Danish is still crap and she had a difficult time understanding me. She wanted to know if I was still attending a local gym and if I still lived in Denmark. I was trying to figure out where she was going with all of it when she said her phone was "wrong" and had to go, and she hung up. I've had several more calls today also from "No Caller ID" which I haven't answered, concerned that it's her. There's very little I can do for her when she's in this state, but more to the point - I am not in a position to help her or anyone else through this kind of ordeal. Still, I've been worrying about her all afternoon and hoping that she has someone in her life to help her. :(

It's an ongoing pissing contest by people that are in denial that they actually enjoy golden showers.

When new users show up on the general board and immediately hit the political threads with ringing defenses of Everything Trump, I presume the userid is #YetAnotherQueerbaitAlt

He's a one-trick pony.

Morning again?

Every day on the green side of the grass is a good day.

I am so sorry you were deprived of that experience, nothing can compare to itq ;)

There are other experiences. At 11 years old, waking at 4:30am 3 days a week to have a big breakfast because the nets had to be in the water at 6:00a. Working the nets and dealing with the fish for 24 hours. Wearing oilskins that never fully dry out on the inside. Non-fishing days are spend repairing gear and equipment and you get to sleep in until 6a. There are no days off between the day that school lets out in spring until a week before school starts in the fall. Yeah, you might get to go moose hunting for a few days in the end of August, but that too is looked on and approached as a job with the object of filling a freezer or two for the family.

i need to break free from her need. it is smothering. this is why i rarely have best friends. i can do once a week, but calling all the time at 8am? fuck. texting around the clock. fuck. i need my space. plus, why all the cussing? you don't use the word motherfucker around my kids, so why around other people i introduce you to? i get the social anxiety. still. i am torn. i want a week. a month. of no contact. i thought i craved a friendship that was more intense. i don't like it. i feel guilty.

no shit!

Motherfuckers gonna motherfuck.

that's so goddamn true. i get it. lots of people don't.

There are ( currently) two people and n the world I care to
Speak to solo with that regularity and I think both of them of them would understand if I said ' I need a week to myself' and I could take it from
Them. If I didn't feel like that it wouldn't be real closeness.

very true. i've found since intentionally trying to come out of the hermit shell, that i have opened my life back up to many people. there are days i wish i could return to not having a cell phone and not answering the door, but that's not the answer either.
