I think it is the opposite. It is a self selecting population. Because there is no moderation on the GB, those that insist on defaulting to rude end up finding a home here. Either from other places on Lit, or the ones that would have been 50,000 post GB'rs never found this space and moved along when their comments were deleted. I acknowledge I can be acerbic at times, especially in political threads.

I love Charger Girl and the cheerful way she moderates threads in the Fetish Forum that I found hard to even peek at. She has on occasion deleted a post or two of mine because in some way my comment was fetish shaming. I didn't go in to a discussion with that intent, but the result was on some level it was rude and she rightly deleted.

Now imagine if I was one of those types that gets off on "dishing it out." After having several of my posts deleted, what is the fun in that? People like that probably moved on years ago, if they didn't stumble into the GB and find out they could behave badly and not only have it stand but flourish.

I am not laboring under any misconception that that will change, I just feel that any opportunity to encourage people that are not of that mindset to join in on the GB, we should.

THere are posters like you and Jelly off the top of my head that either gain just enough acceptance, or have thick enough skin to not mind the teasing so much and add some sunshine to the place. I just look to encourage that, and discourage the other.

I was thinking of starting a thread, but I hadn't decided whether in the PG or here.

"Who do you think should be sent up from the farm team?" and have a poll of prominent PG posters that would help bring some balance to the snark. The snark here is actually pretty good sometimes, funny, clever. Problem is there are people that are just rude and not funny at all and they think they are doing the same thing.

Honey was posting here for a bit, I'd like to see some of I Hate Clowns threads here. I dunno, who else should go into my poll? The best word play is actually in th BDSM forum but most of those people are not interested in the sort of dynamic available on the GB. Not agreeing with your point of view is not the same as not getting the point. No one can make someone stop offending. She asked if it was technically feasible to block the person. It is possible, not available here. I was supporting her right to say ouch, you are saying "don't be butthurt.'

I am all for pointing out odious behavior and do so on the regular. The entire reason RobDownSouth has made it his mission to as he has stated "run me off the board" is because I called him out for his behavior with other, tit-free posters. Rob does not pick on people with tits, unless they agree with people he is harassing.

I cannot stand Sean, and find Lancecastor mildly amusing at times. I pointed out several times how pathetically try-hard his harassment of LTR and Sean was.

I choose to support people hollering ouch. You choose to tell them not to whine. I think we understand each other, we simply do not agree.

This I agree with.

The GB is a lot of fun, though. If you have thick skin, a sense of humor, and are heavy handed with the ignore feature it's just fine.

At the end of the day, I don't spend my final moments before bed, thinking "now why the fuck would this person on an adult site say this about me?"
Because they don't know me, nor I them.

Thick skin comes from living in Canada. And I also just don't care. lol

Even though you've been on Lit almost a year, you're still a newb by GB standards.

This is the GB new hazing process. It has evolved over the years because a few people keep coming back time after time, under a new name because they think themselves so clever, we'll never figure it out. The kind of vanity that drives an alt to appear on the GB under multiple names prevents them from imitating the naive ignorance a true newb displays.

Brilliant observation. I like that you point out it has "evolved" because the bulk of those that are the shock troops in the process are unlikely to realize the actual purpose such hazing likely serves.
