This year I'm way behind on Christmas shopping. The most I've done so far is churn out gallons of sugar scrub that I put into mason jars for family and friends. I'm going to make small candles using crayons, too. Thanks, pinterest.

Who else is crafting away for the holidays? I find myself stuck on ideas for both homemade AND store-bought gifts.

I have, literally, no time till giftmas. My kids inferred that they would like simple things this year, which is nice. I implied that they would be thrilled with more than what's on their lists, like most adolescents.

Sugar scrub? You are a crafty gal, huh? I'm so not.

Sigh. My boys demanded the moon. But if I learned anything from Nate's birthday in October, nothing will satisfy them. There were Christmases back in the day when I couldn't afford a single gift for them, now they're spoiled beyond reason. Nate looked at his stack of gifts and he said ".......That's not enough...." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? He got everything he asked for and then some!

Anyway, short story long I'm trying not to go overboard with them this year but they're still getting everything they asked for. I can't find a happy medium. Shopping for them has been a breeze, it's everyone else I'm struggling with.

I usually do some hand made, but this year I'm lacking in motivation, care factor, and places to do and put it all.

I just need to get through this house move and stop crying every fucking day, then I can worry about Christmas gifts.
What JtohisPB said; any move can be trying, especially one near a major holiday. :rose:
Rainshine, love the av and YOU! December's a rough time to move. It's warm where you are, though, right?

Garnate, my youngest's last letter to Santa. She asked for a unicorn, a laptop, a baby brother, and a better house. She was maybe 7. It was hilarious!!

Our girls got smart phones last month and they know that's literally all they're getting except for a couple little gifts.

Ahahaaaa Okay, so my sons didn't ask for the moon. Your daughter did when she was 7. :D
I don't want to ruin their Christmas but what's the point when they don't appreciate anything?

We're crazy doing it now. We could have waited until January, but nooo... we'll in Bali in Feb, then the USA in March/April so I'm like no no we have to do it NOW. I'm an idiot.

My little girl (5) asked for a mermaid. A real one. Uhh... no can do lady.

Pinterest is an awesome resource. We have made all sorts of things from there.

What were some of the best crafts you've tried?

Most of the stuff I do is based around sewing, my little girl, or activities for her. Some of the costumes I have made her are on Pinterest. :)

This isn't really a craft but my 7 yr old is big into drawing and tracing. We have a lamp under our glass kitchen table so he can trace. For Christmas this year I got him a light box he can use to trace anywhere so today I printed out a stack of drawings from online; all of his favorite characters. I don't know how many I printed out but the stack of papers is 2 inches thick. Now I'm going to separate them all by category and stick them in their own folders inside a binder so he can keep them organized.

I recently looked up a heap of colouring pages for adults. I'm going to do the same as you and print them out.

Light table's are awesome. We made our little person a light table and had all sorts of weird and strange things on it. Until we filled it with water and killed it.

This is what we got him. I'm guessing that's a little different than the light table?

The BIG box of Crayola crayons.:heart:

My kids would still go for that. Hell, I would too.

I have to buy a hell of a lot of crayons to make the candles I have planned. They'll be small votives with thin lines of color all the way up. I'll take pics when I'm done with them.

I've been splitting my time between knitting caps, gloves and baby gear and weaving some chain mail bracelets. And I still have to stock up for a show the end of February. Eek!

That.....is hardcore. I never learned to knit or crochet and I can't make jewelry like my mom can.

i'm a guy that doesn't even do crafts or cook and i fucking love pinterest. :>

just sayin...

How old are they? It may be high time to get them to help in their community and appreciate what they have. You guys must have a soup kitchen or shelter. Rather than pile up gifts for themselves have them help pick out and bring stuff for those less fortunate. The less fortunate and homeless not only appreciate food, but personal grooming supplies (which they rarely get) like soap, deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream. Get the kids to find coupons and deals, get them to accompany you to buy this stuff and bring it down to your local shelter. It'll be a big wake up call to them to really experience people having less than nothing, but it will also teach them that Christmas is a time for "giving" and not a smorgasborg of receiving.

Just a thought.

have you ever checked out Pinstrosity? It's hilarious! People post the things they've tried to make from Pinterest only to have them be epic fails. If you need to laugh, check it out.

That's because pinterest is fucking amazeballs.

This is an amazing idea; THANK YOU. I need to do some investigating because I have no idea where our city's shelters are.

I cannot wait for my new glasses to arrive. I thought at first you were making small candies from crayons and thought Scrooge has nothing on you.

Have we all descended into the pool of commercialism, one lone hand in view as we sink inexorably to our financial doom? (ok, I watched T2 last night, I admit it.)

My advice for gifts is to stop for a moment, think of where your ideas on gifts were going, then take a sharp right. Go off the beaten path. Think of what each of your recipients does that is different from the mainstream, and find something associated with that. Hope it helps.

Thank you, sir! The clock is ticking loudly in my ear all day, every day. I'm so tense about this shit. Every year I can't wait for Christmas to be over.

Because you know the next month is my birthday and you're sending me the pb&j wallet, right? :nana:

If you want it, it's yours. I only keep spare change in it so I can part with it. You can have the spare change, too.

Might be fun to pass the PB&J wallet around to litsters every few months. :D Leave a fun note inside it for the next person. Next person adds a note to the original note and it gets passed on and on again.

That sounds delightful. They do something similar on a fountain pen site. (The note, that is, not a funny wallet.)
