Wake for Byron: All that and a bag of chips...

Unstuck ;) Thank you Laurel, for giving Byron sticky status, he would have loved it!

Thank you everyone for posting. This morning I woke up after a couple hours of sleep and without thinking, checked for Byron. Then I looked at his picture for a while, while the Strawsb "Winter Long" melody started up in my head and became an earworm.

He sent me links to movies, documentaries and TV at least once a day, often several times a day, we had a very long written list of things to watch together so long that it would have taken years to get through it all esp. since we keep adding to it. Also upcoming series like Homeland, The Americans and Better Call Saul will be on. He was so looking forward to them.

So far I haven't watched anything at all since I last watched the current 24 on the 1st with him because I just couldn't bring myself to. I keep thinking about the 2 episodes we have missed since then, and maybe if I can find someone to watch them with me I can watch them. Maybe with a bit more distance I can.

Pre-Byron, I only really watched some Mystery and Masterpiece theater on PBS and I could easily slide back into that, but I think when I can handle it, I will start my way down the list. Some things, I suspect I will never watch

If anyone is curious about the list, let me know.

When you start watching a series, start a thread for it. Many of us will be happy to join in discussion with you.

Somehow I manged to miss this thread until this morning. You have my condolences Noor.

For some reason, this thread really appealed to me. Nothing heavy, I just got a good laugh from it.

I've seen them, but what the heck. ;)

Sounds like a good thread, if you feel like it.

I am so very very sorry to hear about Byron. I rarely post anymore and just happened to take a browse on the GB and read this.

Byron was an enigma - one way on the boards if "discussing" and another when giving advice to someone in a PM so many years ago.

Even though it has been said many times in this thread, he adored you and will always be with you in spirit and in your heart.

:rose::heart:

Thank you. :rose:

Last night and today I kept hearing an ear worm of the refrain from The Strawbs "The Winter Long" I will always be with you
Was out tonight and another song replaced it and then no song at all. I just got home and as I turn the key in the lock I find myself humming I will always be with you

and on a completely different note:

patient1 did a really nice toast for Byron in the toasting thread if anyone is interested.

This is quite terrible, I'm very sorry for your loss.

We had our share of arguments and disagreement, but I always had respect for him.

Posting Q's reference:

If I were Mod of the Gee Bee
Not queen, not duke, not prince
My regal robes of the Gee Bee
Would be satin, not cotton, not chintz

I'd survey each post, be it keen or foul
With a woof and a woof and a royal growl (woof!)

As I'd click my heel, other Mods would kneel
And the tards would bow and the trolls kowtow
And the spammers would no longer spam for God —
If I — If I — were Mod!

Each poster would show respect to me
The starters of threads genuflect to me
Though my tail would lash, I would show compash
For every newb regardless of how odd —
If I — If I — were Mod!

Always sad to learn about this kind of thing.

My condolences to those of you who knew Byron.

Right now I am having some probability theory related issues for a crypto class and Byron would have been so much help, he was great at explaining things.

Byron In Exile, with his wit and snark shall be missed,
my condolences Noor.

This is very sad. I don't post much but he did respond a couple of times with some funny comebacks and, I appreciated it greatly.

We're still hoping for a funny comeback...

:(

I wish... He was a very funny man, maybe he used up all his funniness and didn't restock in time?

At the beginning, all was silent but now when I wake up my ears are ringing, and when I turn the key in the door I hear the strawbs.

Last Farewell from your German Friends.

"God's Garden"

God looked around his garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew that you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered “Peace be thine.”

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone…
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Given the recent spate of what appear to be Actual Deaths, I suspect the Average Age of long time GBers is higher than most would care to admit.

There are a couple of present posters I would gladly trade off for a few of the dead ones coming back.

Agreed. I might have to open another Deadpool just for GB members, since AJ, Ishmael and Amicus all appear to be slippin' into darkness of late.
