I'd like to propose a toast...

The 300th post to this thread-

I'd like to propose a toast to the crew of the Columbia space shuttle:

Sixteen days ago, seven magnificent people left this earth. This morning, when they left their earthly lives, they were already forty miles closer to heaven.

Texan - February 1, 2003

Godspeed to them all. :rose:

Amen.

To StrawberryPez for doing the right thing and the best thing by trying to save a scared puppy and prevent anything else like that happening again.

I took Byron's passing pretty hard. I don't know why. I thought I was jaded to death, my family would probably say so. It caught me completely by surprise. Denial, acceptance, and then grief. Recurring grief. I've had dozens of connections here that carried over to real life in various ways, my wife being the crowning glory from this sentimental site.

Byron wasn't one of them. We exchanged few PMs, and those were me politely asking him to contribute expertise to a thread, and him consenting. In other words, apart from deliberate attempts to cheer him during his melancholy moods, I didn't know him any better than anyone else who's been here for his entire tenure. What you may have seen on the boards is what words there were between us.

I'd like to propose a toast-

"To Byron, who by his omnipresence, prolificacy and ubiquitousness became, more than anyone else over the last decade, the personification of the General Board.

He was a man of many moods and topics, childish and wise, of deep knowledge, vast intelligence, passionate opinions and startling skills. I hope he has found freedom from sadness.

While I never had very much enthusiasm for Biblical descriptions of heaven, the place seems a lot more appealing thinking that Byron has gone before me. That means that he will have insisted on 1)upgrading their internet, 2)replacing all of those angel orchestras of trumpets, harps, and cymbals, 3)organizing poetry recitals, and 4) day trips to various planets. Probably getting everybody better TV reception[Edited to add:, translating all of those Latin inscriptions into English,] and eyeshades so they don't have to squint from all of that brilliance bouncing off of the gold paved streets and alabaster buildings, too.

One thing I do know about Byron- when he spoke of classics, it was always about the perfection of the works, rather than honoring a long tradition.

[Edited to add: Should you get a chance, read some Byron threads. They're a box of chocolates and a bag of chips.]" :rose:

I opened a bottle of 2004 Stellenbosch for Byron's toast, I might as well put it to good use.

To Queersetti, or "Q" as we call him. This gentleman knows his facts. He's a discriminating connoisseur of pop culture, too. I credit him with bringing about what I think of as the Renaissance of the General Board with his "We're getting the band back together" campaign. It's great to have him back!:rose:

Threads such as these make me wish I were not so reclusive where the GB is concerned.

And may I add a "hear hear" to your toasts?

I'd like to propose a toast -
"To my best friend and wife of over ten years, Cheyenne. As you may know, she's been here a long time, and here on the General Board of Literotica is where we met, formed a friendship, and started a Real Life relationship.

Cheyenne is a legend here for her ability to find a thread, in fact it was said that she was the search function. I could go on about her, but I think everybody knows about as much about her as she wants them to know.

Simply put, she's given me the happiest years of my life, and the more we are together the better it gets! Health, happiness, and a long life! :rose::kiss:

Next time you folks are by, I'd be happy to buy you a beer, glass of wine or a cocktail (made with Alaskan spirits).

That would be nice. I don't know when we'll return, but it won't be this year or next. We have major trips with my family this year, and hers next.

Awwwww... you told me Thor offered us a drink but you didn't tell me that was in response to a toast! I love you, too, dear. :rose::heart::kiss:

i hope it's not considered bad form to quote these toasts but they say so much worth saying :roses:

I did not see this earlier.

Thank you, P1, your kind words are very appreciated.

Awwww.... thank you! Can you believe our 11th anniversary is coming up in a few months? I'm thankful for Lit as it was before Facebook and many other time wasters that are available online now. I don't know that I would have spent nearly as many hours here had I found Lit when there were more good options available but in early 2000, chat rooms were the "in" thing. Lit bulletin board was different and very much appreciated.

I tried to do this earlier this evening, after we got home but Valentine's Day fell on Garbage Eve, and it's a recycling week, too! Such is life in the suburbs. Amelia and Marxist's recent posts in her letters thread, and MelissaBaby's letter there got me thinking. I originally started this thread for people who spent their Valentine's Day here.

I am finishing off a bottle of Shiraz-Cabernet from Stellenbosch. I'd like to propose a toast...

To my wife Cheyenne-

The best thing that ever happened to me. When we said for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health, etc. I had no clue what sicknesses we'd get to deal with, but everything we face is easier together, and things just get better and better. May our loving years together be many!
