Also, when it comes to obscenity (which many people would consider rape stories/movies/games/etc as), the written word is the only material that can never be deemed obscene.

Propoganda posters meant to enrage a group of people is far different than a written story. Propoganda is specifically targeted to get a certain response--whereas I doubt there's many people out there who write rape fantasy stories with the idea of incensing people to go out and rape.
i simply think in my humble opinion that if you keep telling people that something that is wrong really isnt that wrong at all then some people will believe it.
if every repe story read has the woman enjoying it then just maybe that is how some people, all be it a very small minority, may believe thats how it is. maybe none of these will act on it, maybe one or two will?

It goes back to the beginning. The normal person can tell fantasy from reality. If they can't, then that's a whole different problem.

In some cases that "fantasy"/"reality" distinction is all that's needed. If somebody reads a story about Vikings sailing around in a longboat and ravishing Saxon women they're probably not going to go build a longboat and act it out IRL, and my earlier comment referred to that sort of stuff.

But IRL, rape doesn't just happen because people confuse fantasy and reality. Very often it happens when people know what's going on but get confused about whether it counts as consent - or because they believe that their buddies consider it acceptable.

Men who believe myths about rape (e.g. "women often provoke rape through dress or behaviour") are more likely to consider rape - but also, men who think their peers believe such myths are more likely to consider rape. See e.g. http://psp.sagepub.com/content/32/3/286.abstract and related studies.

This is why I'm uncomfortable about a site policy that effectively requires NC stories to feature one particular rape myth.

The irony is Bramblethorn that you're subscribing to a different myth about rape. There's date rape, which is what you're talking about specifically (i.e. men who don't understand consent being withdrawn, what's consentual and not, etc).

Rape (the non-date rape kind) has nothing to do with sex in the first place (that's the myth right there). Like many things rape (especially stranger rape) is all about having power over someone. There are people who inheritly like power over people, or to think they're better than other people, and for some that's the only way they feel they can get that power.

Don't believe me? Think back to this historical example: Even the poorest white guy in the south in the civil war era supported slavery, even though he would never be able to own a slave in a million years. Why? Because as long as one slave existed, that poor white guy could always say he was better than someone.

I have heard this asserted many times, but I'm yet to see anybody offer supporting evidence.

Power dynamics are certainly crucial to any discussion of rape. (The belief that all your bros condone what you're doing? That right there is a power dynamic, and it's one of the ways in which rape myths encourage rape.)

But just because it's about power doesn't mean it's not also about other things. Human behaviour is complex.

And you know what white Southerners used to appease their conscience about slavery? Myths. Myths that said blacks were naturally suited to slavery and weren't mentally equipped for freedom, myths that said God had ordained the arrangement.

Myths are powerful things.

Your assertion is nonsense for many reasons, but you have no idea what all white men thought back then. One of my ancestors said slavery seriously harmed poor people needing work. He was orphaned and had a whale of a problem earning money to help his mother.

Actually, I'm more curious why you want to discuss it, since you don't seem to want to discuss what the rape fantasy might do for some what fantasizing about fucking his/her sister/brother/father/mother does for others.

Say, for the sake of argument, the answer is yes: "1 or 2 will be affected" by what they read. That's kind of a no-brainer when you have more than 6 billion minds on this planet, and we're merely in the old-old discussion of "Is Art imitating Life, or does Life imitate Art?"

So...the answer is yes. Now what? What do you want to say or do next?

To me, this sounds like just a door for circular argument and justification for whatever is going on in your head, though I have no idea what.

So I'm asking: Why start the thread? What are you waiting to hear?

opinions! thats what i was wainting to hear....and i have, thank you.

the reason i asked the question is after reading several NC stories on lit i wondered why they all followed the same theme. i have my answer...lit likes it like that. why? i am not sure.

the "art imitating life" stuff i have never really thought about.

the point you make about incest is a good one too. but i dont read incest stories as a rule.

may i say your post sounds rather rude.

Actually take any civil war era history class in college and you'll see it.

Also, think about it this way--was it really any easier when slavery ended and now you have 5 million extra people immediately joining the job market?

Another head-scratching question might be why you keep reading the nonconsent stories.

You miss the point that your whole thread seems to be railing against a story form that you continue to read with pleasure (at least the pleasure of railing against it) yourself.

Just stop reading them and go on to some form you don't have a basic objection to.

I can enjoy the plot, the theme, the build up. when it gets to the old familiar bit of the woman starting to enjoy her rape I just dismiss it. the story as a whole may be good.

maybe some author/editor will start to write stories where the girl does not enjoy it totally.

You've been told why this is at Literotica a couple of times. Have also had the requirements on nonconsent stories quoted for you. Not sure what part of "it has to be enjoyed in the end" to qualify for posting here you can't absorb. But I agree with you that you're likely to find stories going deeper than that having crept into the Literotica file.

the bit I cant absorb is why it has to be "enjoyed in the end". the reasoning behind this statement is beyond me. which is one reason for starting the thread in the first place. other than getting some debate and being social.

I agree, you can't absorb it. It's a site rule. You don't have to understand it. It's not your site. It's based on trying to avoid attracting sexual predator crazies and scrutiny of the site and its users by criminal hunters. (Duh)

Certainly makes you look a little dense and spending entirely too much time whining about something that isn't going to happen for you. Perhaps if you sent the Web site a hefty check.

Everyone is accountable for their own decisions

Just to keep it simple...according to the Bible, Cain was the first murderer. As far as I know, Literotica was not around then. Point being, crime has been around since the beginning of time. Cavemen and women didn't pick up a book, play a video game or watch a movie but people were still killed, raped, stolen from, etc.

People are going to do what they are going to do and no matter of influence (excuses) will promote or prevent this. Nature and nurture are the key factors here. In this case the pen is not mightier than the sword....swords will kill you but a pen will only hurt your feelings.

Eh..hmm...my name is DaniMonyve and I am a proud author of N/C fantasy fiction ;-)

I get your drift on the first paragraph but I will leave the bible out of the discussion.

yes you may well be correct in your second paragraph, maybe not.

as far as being an author goes...if it were not for the literotica rules would every NC story you write have the same format as in the girl ends up loving it and orgasms several times?
