Don't know what you have for a system or how you use it. The only folks I've known who needed to monitor the temp were heavy gamers who had clocked their graf into the ether. Most of the temp s/w is cute and uses resources you shouldn't give up on a toy, IMO.

This may be a bad idea, unless you're super anal about keeping the case dust free.
What if you took the case side off, and blew a desk fan across the open computer?

I seem to remember reading about people doing that when they were over-clocking their computers.
