Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
You would be 109 today!
I learned to read with the Dr. Seuss classics, like 'Go, Dog, Go', 'Are You My Mother?' and 'Put Me In The Zoo'.
When I graduated from those, I went on to The Princess and The Goblin (George MacDonald), Trixie Belden series (various authors), Anne of Green Gables (L.M. Montgomery) and The Hobbit (Tolkien).
What early books do you remember? Which ones did you love?

Psst! Those books you mentioned weren't written by Dr. Seuss, but published by his imprint.
I'm the library/lunch lady. I know my Seuss books.

Happy birthday doc!
When I was a kid I remember being addicted to Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries.

I'm crushed. I was 3. It said 'Dr. Seuss' on the cover. Is there no honour anymore?

Favouritest Lisa's book ever: The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner.

There was a series that came along a little later along the same vein called "The three investigators" that was fun as well

I've read the Doc since I was little,
I've enjoyed every jot and tittle,
Sam and Horton and the Sneetches,
Thing's One and Two and the other creetches,
Bartholomew's Oobleck and Yertle the Turtle,
Horton, the Who's and the Grinch,
Reading the Doc's prose is a cinch,
Happy Birthday Ted, many happy returns of the day,
For those learning to read, you're still lighting the way.
