Too long and too picky
Does anyone find that over the last few months story approvals are taking too long and being rejected for very minor reasons?

What's too long and too picky on a free opportunity site?
You don't feel that you're getting your money's worth?

From 4-star 1 May 2011 review by Examiner.com’s Acquanetta Ferguson of menage novella Dark Primeval: There is also something to be said for a man who writes erotica. Some don’t get it and write porn, but Habu gets what erotica is all about and the story comes off as a powerful read.

Also, coauthoring as Shabbu and Stephen Kessel with Sabb:
From the 4 1/2-Star August Rainbow Review on I Met a Man: . . . a thoroughly wonderful reading experience for me. I look forward to reading more from the writing collaboration of habu and Sabb, who I believe make an important contribution to gay literature.

I would answer all the authors contribute our time. There was a time when you had a 72 hour turnaround time with little rejection

I don't think any of us can guess at how many stories are rejected, since we don't know how many are submitted. Late last year, Laurel did post that submissions were up something like 20%, and since she is the only one who reads and approves them, it is taking longer.
Also, the Valentine's Day contest just finished, and often non-contest stories take longer to post during a contest. But several people have said that it's taken more like five or six days for things to post lately.
I can't complain -- it's a free site. If we don't like the way it's run, we are free to post elsewhere.

You're volunteering it by your own decision and for that you can wait in line with everyone else for the Web site to be able to get its resources mustered to give you a free platform for your stories--or, as suggested, you can find a Web site that is more to your liking for the price you're paying. Being picky is a non issue, really. It can reject any story it wants to--this is a privately owned site--and it can be as picky as it wants and the quality of the work and reputation of the site will go up for authors wanting to expose their writing talents to the reading audience.
I generally have to wait for nine months in the mainstream from approval to publishing, so the current five days here is a piece of cake in comparison.

Incidentally, I do believe that the authors of the stories posted to this site are what is providing the product that makes this site profitable (if it is) and that they aren't being given full regard by the site for that. The site mostly ignores any suggestions the authors have, isn't particularly communicative, and has left so many functions broken on the site that the forum is flooded with reasonable questions (although with those who don't read the parts of the FAQs that still are relevant) that the forum users have to clean up for them.
But I give them slack because they are keeping this free site going and I haven't found one that suits me better.
This said, it doesn't really have anything to do with posting time delays (other than the delays being longer for a prolonged period than advertised) or story rejections. It has to do with those stories that got posted and that became site product.

All right already. I am just posting as a semi regular author a concern that several people have remarked on.

How dare you question the Fuhrer!
Although I normally do not agree with him much, Pilot's post above says a lot of things I have said(and others) as well.
The site really does not give any form of respect to the people who post the work that draw people here. All his points are valid and I will add that while asking what we want, they then ignore it and make chnages no one has asked for.
To me their biggest issue is setting certain rules then because they do not properly screen stories allowing a boatload of rule breaking stories to post then occasionally rejecting one they paid attention to leading to irate authors feeling they are being "picked on"
Now you want to get lynched? Try bringing that one up!

Lit might be the best show in town but not the only one. There are other sites that offer short stories, and I have been adding my stories to one of them. Maybe Lit isn't the answer for you. No other site that I know of allows voting, but at the same time the short story site I found does provide me a lot of comments, something I really didn't get much of at Lit at the beginning.
Just a thought. Stories are posted fairly soon, easily within a week if not less.

Then it's certainly time to PM Laurel about it and ask what the problem is.

Honestly, and this is something I've known for a long time (and has been a topic of discussion in the Playground as well) everyone here talks about Laurel is busy and only has so much time etc....
Perhaps she could spend more time running the site and less time doing this.
http://forum.literotica.com/member.php?u=424447
close to 63k posts and that is only under Dolf not all the Dolf alts. And if anyone doubts who she really is go read any GB thread and watch all off them suck her ass until there is no tomorrow.
And for anyone who is really curious about how I know, PM me and I will tell you.
So if you took all that energy spent and used to clean up and fix up the site, LIt could be far better than what it is.

Laurel certainly doesn't do everything to please me--and I don't doubt she's not fully responsive, even when you figure out how to get her attention, which isn't all of the ways the Web site says it can be done--but this is her property to do with as she likes and to engage in activities here that she likes to engage in. So, it's up to me to adjust to what's here if nothing comes out of questions and suggestions (which doesn't mean I don't think they shouldn't be asked and given), or to go someplace else. But GA's case seems quite unusual to be going on this long. I trust you've PMed her more than once on this?

machts nichts, its Laurel's game and her ball. If you dont like her rules it sux to be you. That said, the other story sites are nuthin to write home about but a few of them offer wares superior to LIT. The difference is amazing.

There is an arguable case for suggesting that Laurel should reject a damn sight more stories than she does. If she is making even the smallest move to improve quality I'm all for it.

Dolf is a longtime British Lit member who lives in the U.K. and has met several other Lit members in RL, even dated a few.
But please, don't let that stop you!

I never did think that Lovecraft's ability to correctly assess and "expose" other posters' backgrounds was worth a pot of piss.
But, as Laurel says, it doesn't seem to stop him from doing it. I think the technical term for that is "character assassin."

Now, now. I hardly think a half-snarky reply to a 3-day-old post is anything like a force choke out of nowhere.
Someone sent me a link to this thread and I thought it was funny, so I'm poking fun. Poor Dolf!
