No worries, I always thought Kirk was lousy. Even though I watched the show religiously (I walked a couple of miles over to my uncle's house every week to watch it because I didn't have a TV), I still thought the show had a lot of dumb stuff in it. But then so did Star Wars.
2001 is still the gold standard for science fiction movies.
