The man accused of shooting an art school financial adviser in the chest has a long wrap sheet in the city of St. Louis. Sean M. Johnson, 33, is the person police believe walked into the Stevens Institute of Business and Arts and shot Greg Elsenrath, a long-time employee, and then turned the gun on himself.

Court records indicate Johnson may have a mental health background as well as a criminal background. In 2009, Johnson was charged with Second Degree Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon after he pleaded guilty to attempting to assault a cab driver.

He was sentenced in 2011 to five years in prison for that incident, but his sentence was suspended and Johnson was ordered to take prescribed medication.

Johnson was supposed to serve five years on probation, but it was lifted just 10 months later in May 2012.

Half of them are basically telling various federal agencies to do their job
And the other half is spreading information between agencies and ordering research to be done on the topic.

The real concern I have is the idea of a gun registry. The government doesn't need to know or keep a list of everyone who owns guns. They don't keep a list of who owns a giant screen TV or an electric hair dryer.

I'm not a gun owner, but if I want to go buy one it shouldn't be anyone's business.

You know perfectly well that these things are implemented bit by bit. It starts with baby steps to test the waters and soften people up, then gradually implement more and more extreme measures.

They keep a list of who owns what car though and in the real world if you have to choose between gun and car you're probably better off with the the former. It makes a halfway decent weapon and frankly if all you can do is defend they can starve you out just like they did in the days of old.

The car is a privelege. Gun ownership is a right. There is a difference.
