Hot coffee is indicated.

Oh, nothing, really. Sorry, did I wake you up...?

Coffee? Having just braved an unfamiliar Sainsbury's for the weekly shop, I believe my response is, "Fuck, yeah!"

Almost any unfamiliar Supermarket is a frightening experience.

What really peeves me are two classes of shopper:
The ones with a mobile phone welded to their ear, or
The ones with a thousand yard stare.
Neither are switched on to what they are doing. I can [mostly] put up with uncontrolled kids, or even a confused Granny, but the others drive me to distraction.
Then there's the one who has her trolley on one side and clogs up the other while she looks, very carefully, at some product or other, completely oblivious to the hoards in either direction who simply want to get on and get out ?
I cannot get out fast enough.

Do you have "fun" with Ms X who seems to think getting the money out is a job best done the very last of all, and in exquisite slowness, requiring the burrowing down through layer after layer of miscellaneous junk to find a purse ?
Then the sheer unalloyed fun of watching her repeat the process to find the card number in a different purse, of course).
And then being surprised by the machine ?
And don't mention finding her reading glasses.

By this time I'm ready to sympathise with almost any homicidal maniac.

I've run into those people, yes. At the cafeteria, however, many of us stand with exact change out while waiting in the 20-person long line, while others chatter away and look surprised when they get to the cash register, fumbling in their pockets for some money.

I don't think its necessarily a gender thing.

I think it is; at least, it is in our Supermarkets.
At the cafeteria, it makes you want to yell [loudly]
"Oy. Will you concentrate please? Some of us would prefer to drink HOT tea"

Not everyone is aware of their surroundings or considerate of others. Many have work, family, bills, and who knows what else on their minds as they shop. They used to bother me. But why give anyone enough power to irritate me? So I just smile, go about my shopping, thinking about something pleasant instead. Simple enough.

Indeed.
An excellent point. However, why should that stop them thinking about where they are, what they're doing and getting out ?

"Put the phone down, stupid, pay the effin' bill and go away, huh?"

You put this so well, Lynn.

I would add that, in addition to keeping my own power for positive things, I'm sure that I have been distracted in my turn...not everyone could see that it was because a loved one was ill or dying, I'm sure. And it would make me feel worse to know that I was upsetting or delaying people.

How are things with you?

Yep, family illness, death, job loss, money issues, foreclosure, past due notices . . . distractions others who don't know us don't see.
