Kittens for Christmas?
Apparently, I'll be getting two new kittens in a couple of days. This was posted on my son's Facebook page:
Well, if being snowed in is bad enough. I just found 2 lost kittens in my apartment. I guess bringing that cardboard box in the house was a big mistake.
He sounded a bit panic-stricken in his phone call. He's snowed in with two kittens, no cat food or cat litter and very few options at the moment.

From what he has in his pantry at the moment, I guess the kittens will be dining on bean with bacon soup. He's still working on the litter box issue.

He lives in an apartment complex for people with special needs and senior citizens. Pets are allowed and there's a very helpful office staff to assist the residents.
If not, I told him we could take them. I really don't need any more cats.

Good digestible protein. I've heard of it done before when no milk or kitty food is available.

No eggs, either, and he's snowed in. The food won't be such a problem. His other opinion is instant oatmeal. Kitten will eat a number of things. The litter will be more of a problem. I suggested a pan of shredded paper if going door to door doesn't yield a kindly soul with cat litter to spare.

Shredded newspaper is a good idea for the litterbox. And doesn't he have any canned tuna or salmon? Don't know how old the kittens are but they might be able to eat that.
And yeah, I'd knock on all the neighbors doors and see what can be found. One never knows where one might find a spare bag of kitty litter or a can of cat food.

Update: From a phone call a few minutes ago.
"I have good news and bad news".
"What's the good news?"
"I found a home for the black kitten. The one I called Blackie. Someone's going to take it."
"Great. What's the bad news?"
"I can't find the other kitten."
"In your apartment?"
"No. It got loose somewhere in the apartment building."
"Leave it alone."
"Oh."
So, for now, the kitten crisis has been averted.

I had a similar problem. A cat got inside my garage and had kittens.
What I did was put food in a pie pan, outside the garage, and leave the garage door raised enough for the cats to come and go. When the kittens were big enough (and outside eating) I lowered the door, then put food out occasionally. Now not at all.
I did the same with my kids. They were welcome to come over on Sundays, to eat and do laundry.
