Any related couple in a raising a "normal" family are unlikely to tell kids that and would take steps to ensure their privacy i.e. why so many usually move somewhere where they are not known and not keep many relationships with people from the past such as old friends or family.

I have to agree. If 2 adults decide to have sex and they are related then that's fine, its their choice and for 1 find it amazingly sexy but dragging am innocent kid into isn't fair. And like Teafortwo said deep dark secrets always get found out.

This really is the crux of the issue, because while I might feel like taking the kid away is in his/her best interests, it's a slippery slope. Where do you stop? Who, exactly, has made a shitty enough choice that their child must be taken away? Ultimately, I think a child should only be legally required to be removed from his/her family in cases of abuse or neglect, in other words, cases where the child is in danger.

That would certainly change things. In that case, Dear Old Dad needs to be seeing the inside of a prison cell. As far as the child is concerned, while I don't think the mother should be legally obligated to give the child up, I would strongly encourage her to put the child up for adoption. She's sixteen, as I recall, and attempting to be a single parent at sixteen years of age is pretty brutal, and odds are that both mother and child would suffer because of it.
