Fact: There are by far more GOP Latinos in office than Dems

AP exit polls.

Latinos were a great demographic for Obama in 2008 and even better in 2012.

Uh, yes. But I thought it was clear that I was referring to the title of your post

Fact: There are by far more GOP Latinos in office than Dems

I have a sneaking suspicion this isn't true, but I also wouldn't claim my suspicion to be a "fact" unless I had a source for it.

THAT is one of the great takeaways from this campaign.

A double whammy: they're increasing as a percentage of the populace, and they're voting increasingly Democratic.

Hispanics basically started taking over New Mexico politics in 2008, Colorado this year and are on track to turn Nevada blue by 2016. Years of Republican domination out west being undone, one state at a time.

Nothing but blue skies ahead.

Never came back to support his statement. I'm shocked. Only number i could find was in Texas where elected Hispanics democrats outnumber Republicans 10-1.

"Rebecca Acuña, spokeswoman for the Texas Democratic Party, told the Texas Tribune for a March 3, 2012, news article that Republicans "are delusional if they think they’re making any inroads with Latinos. In Texas, there are 668 Democratic Hispanic elected officials to the 60 in the Republican Party."

Maybe the rest of the country is vastly different but I have my doubts

Once they take Texas it's over for the GOP unless they can fool them with the likes of Jeb Bush or Marc Rubio.

I figured as much, since in Texas, gerrymandering by the majority Republican party and herding as many Latinos as possible into as few districts as possible are one and the same. It would be pretty amazing if the GOP was electing more Latino officeholders even though the huge majority of Latinos are intentionally being put in Democratic districts.

Is it really that difficult?

The GOP is the party that wants police to stop people and ask them to provide proof of citizenship and then tells Latinos it's not aimed at them.

BTW, the Puerto Ricans passed a pro-statehood referendum. Sort of.

But the results aren't so clear cut. It was a two-part ballot that first asked all voters if they favor the current status as a U.S. territory. Regardless of the answer, all voters then had the opportunity to choose in the second question from three options: statehood, independence or "sovereign free association," which would grant more autonomy to the island of nearly 4 million people.

More than 900,000 voters, or 54 percent, responded "no" to the first question, saying they were not content with the current status.

On the second question, only about 1.3 million voters made a choice. Of those, nearly 800,000, or 61 percent of those expressing an opinion, chose statehood – the first majority after three previous referendums on the issue over the past 45 years. Some 437,000 backed sovereign free association and 72,560 chose independence. Nearly 500,000, however, left that question blank.

Well, anyway, if Congress approves statehood for PR and the people go for it in the end, that means 2 more Latino Senators and three or four Representatives. I wonder if they'd caucus with the Dems or the Pubs?

Let's look at it from a more national perspective.

There are two Republican Latino Senators and one Democratic.

There is one Latino Governor, a Republican.
