varsity cheerleader
(my freshman year but I hated it...)

cross country
(sophmore and junior...but I became entirely too busty and never went out for my senior year)

How about positions?

I was a catcher and third base in baseball, a basketball guard. and quarterback and safety in football until some idiot offplay hit me and tore my ACL and shit...feels like it might rain.

Ah, well, in that case.... I've got nothing. What sport(s) did you play? And why?

Basketball was my passion, although I played football for two years too (not very well).

Got my foot smashed during one game when I was 15, team doctor took a quick x-ray, said I was fine, I needed to man up and get back out there, the team needs me. Damned foot hurt the rest of the season.

Five years later, I'm in the Army. I twist my ankle and get it x-rayed. The doctor tells me my ankle is okay but I have a horribly mis-healed broken foot that looks like it was never set. D'oh!

I got in fights damn near every day.....no time for sports, at least the first half...jr sr year I did swimming...had a great breast stroke. :D

*checking to see if any non-Americans accidentaly checked "football"*

I played sports while in high school, but not for my school. We had no girls teams, so I played in local leagues.

Lettered in tennis for three years and was co-captain during my senior year.

Also active in judo from the age of 14 - 17, but that was through the local 'Y' rather than school.

Okay, cool story time....

Those of you who played tennis in high school know that it's a pretty thankless sport, you play on some really crappy courts and the only spectators are usually your parents.

When my son was a senior in high school, his school had a most excellent girls' tennis team. How good were they? They made it all the way to the state finals.

My son found out that these tennis events were sparsely attended, and set about to rectify the situation. The state finals were to be held at a public tennis court 30 miles away from the high school at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday morning in late spring.

My boy got together with his friends and put the word out that anyone with school spirit should ditch school and show up to support the tennis team....BUT don't tell anyone, it was going to be a surprise.

"Surprise" turned out to be the understatement of the year. At 5 minutes to 10 a.m. on the day in question, a huge stream of cars suddenly pulled into the tennis court parking lot. Over 60 guys poured out of the cars and headed for the meager bleachers, filling them to capacity. It was a flash mob before flash mobs were cool.

The girls first looked shocked and then looked like they were going to cry, they were so overwhelmed.

Our first singles player hit an ace on a serve and the boys went wild cheering...causing the referee or whatever you call him to call timeout and lay down the law about when it was permissible to cheer.

One of the mothers got up and left....the boys thought she was angry...nope, she wanted to get video of her daughter playing with 60+ guys cheering her on in the background. :)

Sadly, the girls didn't win the state championship that day, but they did have a day they will never forget.
