Prop 8 struck down.

"In Germany, they first came for the communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics. I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak up."
Martin Niemöller
Reverend Niemöller spent time in one of the concentration camps (1938-45).

That door's been open for a long, long time James. The hinges have rusted open, in fact, so no closing it now. My Christian upbringing tells me homosexuality is wrong, but my experiences in life are making serious dents in my stance on gay marriage. I'm more inclined now to shrug and ask, why not? It is a free country, right? It's important to me that it remain that way, and my fellow Americans should have the right to marry whoever they want. Adultery may be considered morally wrong by many, but it isn't a criminal offense. I feel the same about gay marriage.

Yes, the door should be open for the Mormons and we should apologize to them for the injustice done to them and since we want to be open and hospitable to the diversity offered by Islam, we should understand, polygamy may not be morally right by our standard, but really, it doesn't rise to the level of criminality, now does it?

When any standard will do, all standards are the same, and a low one is just as good as a high one and easier to attain.

Actually, I was talking about same sex marriage, not polygamy.

That's the point to my first post. ;) ;)

That's what we're talking about in the Muslim Brotherhood thread (and my last post in the Doom and Gloom thread).

When we begin to unravel things, we imagine we know where the unraveling ends, because after all I am a reasonable person, MY position is the reasonable one and everyone else will recognize that and stop there. The good people of California thought that same-sex unions were a reasonable response to a minority complaint that protected the mores and customs of the majority that had built their society, but as we see by the antics of the Left, reasonable compromise was never the goal; dictating to you your morality and getting you to be okay with impeaching your own convictions (as you alluded to in your earlier post) was their goal all along and I fear that this reasonable line in the sand is just that to them, a line in the sand to be wiped away and redrawn at will.

Lincoln told a story that illustrates the case better than me:

On a farm in another place lived an ox that was very popular with all the people and animal people in the community. The ox was so highly esteemed that both groups of people concluded to host a celebration of the ox with a feast and a parchment testimonial.

At the ceremony, after dinner, the ox's master stood before the congregation, read the testimonial, and presented the ox with a parchment certificate annointing & appointing the ox an HONORARY BULL. Then the ox was asked to respond.

The ox was silent for a while, studied the certificate, and finally spoke: I'M DEEPLY TOUCHED BY YOUR ESTEEM AND AFFECTION, BUT I'D RATHER HAVE BALLS THAN A CERTIFICATE.

As regular as clockwork, "reformed" homosexual AJ offers up his usual "slippery slop" argument that gay marriage leads to polygamy leads to bestiality etc etc etc.

Just as there is nothing more sanctimonious than a recovering alcoholic lecturin' us on the evils of demon rum, "reformed" homosexual AJ is compelled to lecture us on the evils of teh demon buttsezchs.

This puts the gay people one step closer to getting a gay president in office.

President of the United states and his First Gentleman.

History in the making and the GOP just shit and fell back in it.

I am pretty open minded, but we the masses have to be careful with gay marriage laws, just like any other law. I always start out by asking myself if a law is unjust simply because I may think that it's an unfair law. There are plenty of laws that are fair, and unfair.

Mercury14 mentioned the innateness of gays/lesbians, so that makes it legal for them to marry. People have other traits that are innate, but that does not necessarily mean all laws that conflict with the innate characteristics are unjust.

Someone should outlaw your shitty avatars.

Inasmuch as same sex marriage, polygamous marriage or any personal relationships between two or more consenting adults does not diminish my rights or abilities to participate in the political process or aquire, own or dispose of personal property, I see no have no reasonable objection. Note, being offended (or unoffended) is NOT a right nor a reasonable objection

Why should I be banned from doing something that women are allowed to - namely marrying a man? Isn't that gender discrimination?

Fairness? We're talking about discrimination here. When talking about the fairness of employment discrimination against blacks would you also say "wellllll... there are plenty of laws that are unfair..."?

Regarding innate traits there are a few exceptions. It's okay not to hire a wheelchair-bound senior citizen for a warehouse stocking job. But that's because they're unable to do the task. Homosexuals on the other hand are perfectly able to successfully marry as we've seen all across the country.

OMG THAT OPENS THE DOORS TO A MAN MARRYING MULTIPLE SHEEP!

How do gays consummate a marriage exactly?

Whoa. Certainly you'd agree that we have laws on the books that some people interpret to be fair, and the same law is seen by others to be unfair. Prop 8 is no different.

I responded to your earlier post... see here.
