The Constitution - No longer worth the paper to wipe your ass with

I don't quite understand the double and triple toilet paper rolls. It's like selling a 12-inch ruler and saying, 'Now twice as many inches as our six-inch size."

Washington knew the answer:

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

The struggle that Ben franklin feared when he worried that we would have a Republic "if you can keep it," continues even today as we fight to constrain the government and keep it's power with the framework of the Constitution.

Even today they want to control our arms, and our means of communication, the Internet, the one means by which we can circumvent the the power of their MSM propaganda and break their control of information.

Yep. And Hamiliton's agenda was soundly defeated for a while.

So you believe that coprophiliacs have a right to a place on the menu at your favorite restaurant?

Everybody and every activity cannot have "rights" if there is to be order in society. Simple as that, and the majority will decide what's best for the most, through the democratic process. Our system was never designed to be perfect.

Why am I not surprised that you would compare someones right to enter into a legally binding marriage contract with someone of the same sex, and people who enjoys eating shit.

RDS was right about you
you really have a thing for bowel movements

Invariably in any discussion of gay marriage, the true bigots will invoke marriage to pets, to farm animals, and to inanimate objects, as facts proving that homosexuals should not marry. You should be unsurprised that Veggebigot is moving into such logical fallacy in his attempts to protect and defend the constitution as being made by straight white men for straight white men.

It sux to be queer.

I'm surprised you don't see it. The framers didn't contemplate a right of gay marriage. At the time the Constitution was written marriage was a function of the church and religion. So if a particular religion (church) didn't recognize gay marriage you didn't have a right to marry; and the government, being proscribed from making any law restricting the free exercise of religion, would be powerless under the Constitution to prevent the church from denying gay marriage.

The answer of course is for the government to take over religious functions like marriage so that you can marry your airplane and fuck it's tail pipe if you want. :D

That being said, it won't stop the liberals from finding a convenient penumbra for gay marriage in the now thoroughly misrepresented 14th Amendment to cover it.;)

bullshit. marriage has long been a "function" of the state.

Early Virginia Marriage Records

Consents: according to Virginia law, individuals under the age of twenty-one needed the consent of a parent or guardian to marry. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, officials were especially concerned about females under the age of 16 marrying without consent. County clerks were not authorized to issue a marriage
license without certificate (permission) from the parent, master, or guardian. In the nineteenth century, a parent or guardian could give consent verbally to the clerk of the court, or provide written consent in front of one to two witnesses; the consent was then delivered to the county clerk.

Marriage Bonds: the first law requiring a bond was enacted in 1660/61. It required the perspective groom to give bond at the courthouse in the bride’s county of residence. The bond was pledged, with two or more sufficient securities (or witnesses), but no money was exchanged. A license was then prepared by the clerk and presented to the minister who performed the ceremony. This practice was discontinued in 1849, although in some communities bonds were pledged into the 1850s. Bonding insured against legal action should the marriage not take place, if either party declined to go through with the union, or if one of the parties were found to be ineligible for marriage—for example, if the bride or groom was already married, or was underage and lacked approval to wed.

if a church said it was fine to marry to someone under the age of 16 without parental consent, would virginia's law have been unconstitutional?

The issue of "legal" gay marriage should be held as close to the people as possible...

...that means the states. Period.

But, unless things drastically change in this country, that ain't gonna happen...

...because the unconstitutional desire for a utopian, all-inclusive democracy is more People magazine-attractive than is the individual liberty-loving division the republic was established to serve.

Why anyone invites - let alone demands - the approval or disapproval of the federal government into a matter so individually personal - whether gay, hetro, metro, or whatever - has always been totally beyond me...

...but I guess that's because since it really doesn't matter to me what any of you "feel" or "think" about how I live my life, I truly don't care what any democratic form of government you bozos enable thinks, either.

Friggin' socialist lemmings...

In those days the government had no interest in the distribution of resources to dependents, Social Security survivors benefits, tax deductions, or employer health care coverage.

And we'd all love to return to the days of child labor, unsafe work place conditions, unlivable wages, and poor access to health services.

Your constitution has been a heap of shit for over a decade now.

Your outrage is too much too late.

I don't understand the "New and Improved" that imply the previous product is inferior.
"Our last version was a total piece of shit so we improved it! Whatever you do don't buy the old one!"

The essence of your thread is exactly why most of the rest of the world laugh when the US touts it's "freedom".
Your freedom is a lie, it has been for about a century.

All "free" countries have varying degrees of freedom(s). In Canada gay marriage is permitted. Certain types of gun ownership - not so much.
Pick yer poison.

I hate that. Toilet paper that says that isn't worth the paper you wipe your ass with.

To those who have apposed me in this thread I have put you on ignore rendering you totally powerless against me. I win.

Not to mention crib-robbing marriages.

Several states still allow minors as young as 14 to marry.

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure." T. Jefferson

sorry there, but today, the general population of america are a bunch of braindead pansies more worried about the most recent reality show, the new thing on a mickey dees menu, and if madonna did well at superbowl halftime.

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution States:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The highlighted portion is very important. If any governmental body denies the rights of same sex marriage then they need a constitution lesson. Those that try to force their religious view upon others against same sex marriage shits on the very reason why many migrated to this country, freedom of religion. Freedom of religion also refers to freedom from oppression from religion.

Any other view or decision by government not to allow same sex marriage is a violation of what we hold most sacred and that is freedom. If government does not take a stand for this right than they may as well ball the Constitution up and wipe their collective bigoted asses with it.

Yeah, I thought this was going to be about them coming down on the Catholic church...

So. You favor a return to Polygamy too, right?

Still peddlin' the discredited Gay Marriage Leads To Polygamy herpa-derp, Chief?

...one can plausibly argue that there is a rational basis for states to ban polygamous and polyamorous marriages in which there has been historical evidence of an imbalance of power, coercion (particularly of young girls), and an enormous financial burden placed on the state.

None of these arguments can be made against gay marriage.
