I've dithered about starting this thread for some time, because I just have a feeling that it could crash and burn horribly due to a lack of interest, especially since this is probably my last week on Lit until December, but in the hope that I'm wrong, I thought I would give it a whirl.

What this thread is about:

As some of you know may know, I have a bit of a thing for women and their musical instruments, particularly female 'cellists ;). The purpose of this thread is twofold:

I would like it to serve as a place where anyone can discuss how any sort of music makes them feel emotionally (this includes sexual feelings), and also as a place where people can talk about any fantasies that they may have involving women or men playing musical instruments, or any sexual experiences that people have had in a musical setting, or involving music in some way. Also, if people find any particular erotic images involving people playing musical instruments, please feel free to post them, but don't break any of the forum rules regarding images in the process please, as I don't want this thread to be deleted :). You can also post clips of musicians playing their instrument if you find a suitably inspiring clip.

I appreciate that it's rather a vague starting premise, but I'm trying to cater for a number of different perspectives, in order to encourage more of you to post.

To start off with, I offer this rather innocent offering from You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlwOyynWcBU&feature=related

I really like this video because it is not only a lovely piece of 'cello playing, but also because it is a rather beautiful narrative, which appeals to my romantic side. I hope somebody likes it :).

This is a lovely concept. Hope it takes off.

In the movie, "The Soloist", I was deeply moved by music for the first time. When Jamie Foxx played the cello, it actually stirred emotions so deep inside me that tears began to form, and I was surprised to find myself sobbing. Since then, it's as if I've had an awakening. Music means more to me now than it ever has.
I've played the trumpet since I was nine for fun, but my soul never fully connected to it. To play now is almost like a religious experience, a spiritual cleansing each time a note caresses the silence.

Another vote for the cello here. I think it has the strange capacity to be both male and female; in the higher registers it can be the sound of tears, of gentle weeping, while in the lower registers it can be simply stirring.

And in general, music is something that has never ceased to have the most amazing effect on me deep inside. There are chord changes that can change my entire mood. "How strange the change/from major to minor/every time you say goodbye" is rooted very deeply in reality.

Here's my contribution -- the cellist is considerably less easy on the eye from a male perspective than your one, Susurration, but this is a gorgeous piece of music played utterly beautifully.

Well I'm going to go the complete opposite direction with my musical tastes.

Of Nashville Pussy. Raw, nasty, and intense! Also Ruyter can rip it up on lead guitar like few people can, it's like if Angus Young was a hot sexy voluptuous blonde!

Brody Dalle

Punk rock has never been sexier, her music is raw, driving and she has an insane voice both when she is belting out the chorus at full intensity or purring through the verses.

And the queen of them all...Joan Jett. This woman just gets better and better with age.

Thanks for the replies, I thought that this would be a very short lived thread, so I'm relieved :).

Raindear816: I haven't seen 'The Soloist', but I definitely want to now, so I will be looking up more information about that film. Thanks for sharing how it made you feel.

Whambam: I had forgotten about this 'cello piece, and it's excellently played (I'm listening to it while typing). It's very moving, and it definitely has a haunting feel to it for those poignant moments in life.

Smoke01: The pictures certainly look impressive, although the music is probably not to my taste ;). I like to see everyone's taste represented though, so I'm glad you'e posted your contribution, and I do remember hearing one Joan Jett song which I thought was quite good :).

Feel free to keep posting your inspiring music/music related thoughts everyone :).

So, with my Literotica hiatus about to begin (see signature for the reason), I just thought I would add one more, and that is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufuW3-f_Vp0

A beautiful melancholic 'cello solo (starts at 1:50) which is part of the Fantasia on British Sea Songs. It's so haunting, and very very emotional.

I leave you with that, and I look forward to seeing you all again in December :).

Hi Sus :)

I play both piano and clarinet. Both by hear, just by listening to music in the first instance or in the case of a difficult piece of music I listen and practice until I get it as close to perfect as possible.

My favourite instrumental is smooth jazz. I find that easy and I can get away with doing my own little variations.

:)

Oh WoW! I have much to say and I will get a grips with my thoughts and spell it all out soon.
What a wonderful concept for a thread :)

I thought this thread had gone the way of the Titanic, so it's a great pleasure to have to use the multi-quote button.

Thanks for finding this.

The piano is an instrument I've always wanted to play, and have tried, but I need more time, and someone to teach me the basics. This is on my list of things to do in my life, so thanks for the implicit reminder :).

I think that it's great that you can play by ear. My own music reading skills are not the best, but I'm also not great at playing solely by ear either.

Thank you :). All contributions are welcome, so please feel free to talk about musical interests, emotions, and add any relevant pictures.

Not sure if this is on topic or not, but some people have mentioned that they love the cello.

That link just takes me to a blank white page, so I'm not sure whether it's relevant I'm afraid.

Does that contribute to the thread?

Without a doubt, yes.

I'm a very unprofessional piano player, a better singer, and a much more passionate music lover, btw. ;)

Singing counts in this thread :). Welcome along 'passionate music lover' ;).

This most definitely counts too.

Thank you so much for all your contributions.

I guess I was about the age of 16 when the true emotion of music possessed me, I m not talking of pop music or rock music or any other radio/tv source. Of course I loved the music of my age and danced in discos like all teenagers do but this experience was far different.

Believe it or not it was a Christmas Carol in the local church and we were singing "Hark the Herald's Angels Sing" and then.... the choir, the orchestra, the descant and the organ. I stopped singing and just listened, everyone was singing hearts out while I was trying to subdue crying mine out.

Vox humana in vitro (live singing) is one of the most powerful forces in our lives, don't you think?

Yes, I can definitely believe that. I remember listening to a duet sung by a couple of my school friends when I was about the same age. It was in a hall, with just a piano accompaniment, and it was such an emotional performance that it made me want to cry. The power of the singing voice should never be underestimated.

It's also worth noting that singing, apparently, boosts the immune system, so singing is good for you :).

There is much you need to learn about me and my family, music touches our souls far far deeper than you can ever perceive

It sounds as though there are some really inspirational stories which are yet to be told. I look forward to reading any of those which you would like to share :).

Believe me she will Sus. She has a very musically talented family :)

A BB bump! Sus....I can't really contribute to this too much except in pics as and when I find them. But.....I am one of those who wishes I could have learnt to play at least ONE musical instrument. :(

Back when I was younger an Uncle taught me how to play the guitar...but then I moved to the UK and forgot all about making time to practice....I wasn't very good to begin with anyway.

But.....when I do find appropriate pics....be sure that I will add it in here....:)

Music, more than anything else, can instantaneously change how I feel. Whether it be through nostalgia or just the type of music it is, I can manipulate my emotions with it. I think that's probably true of most people. I've got 3 songs for you as examples (links are in the title):

1: Apple Blossom by Esperanza Spalding.

It transports me to Melrose Avenue on UT campus...walking below the trees. It's breezy and bright, carefree and hopeful. So beautiful.

2: Serve This Royalty by Cody Chesnutt

Before I ever knew what making love was, I knew that this is how it had to sound. This song isn't lustful like a "closer" by nine inch nails or playful like "crash into me." This is the soundtrack to intimacy.

3: Alien by Bush

When I was in 7th grade, I went to the beach w/ the fam and bought Sixteen Stone to listen to while I was there. I remember the beach at night whenever I hear this song. It's lonely (i skipped the word alienating for the sake of redundancy) and gut-wrenching. The echo and never-ending notes make you feel like you're alone in a giant room...kind of like being walking on the beach at night.

Told ya I'd find some pics for ya! ;):D

You certainly did, and did you ever ;).

That's certainly made my Friday much better than I thought it was going to be thank you :).

NeonSubtlety: Thanks for sharing your musical memories with us :). Songs that have personal meaning to people are just perfect for this thread :).
