say, to protest the severe cuts in pilots' pay and pensions, what could the airlines do?

Hire scabs to fly and to control air traffic?

How well would that go over?

Like I said before, the Government would step in, They would either go back to work or lose their jobs. Just like what happen to the air traffic controllers.

You'll be so proud of Obama for taking over the airlines.

Or what would happen if I cut my fingernails not realizing that a tiny universe was established on my right pinkie cuticle? What if trimming said nail resulted in the deaths of billions in that tiny universe?
How well would that go over?

In most countries, governments have contingency plans for the military to take over all air traffic communications in the event of any major strikes. Under most contries' laws the air traffic controller unions are also required to have dialog first with relevant authorities and give advance notice before they want to strike. This comes under the "essentail services acts" .

But what about the pilots? In 1981 only the ATC people went on strike. If the pilots also joined in, what then?
