March Madness thread

On to the Sweet 16 for Kansas!

:D

Eke out a win? Were you watching the game?

It was a horribly ugly game, dozens of penalties, players fouling out on both sides, and I think UNLV scored more from the free throw line than anywhere else.

Both teams didn't shoot very well, and still KU won by nearly 20.

Those kinds of games leave me with a foul taste in my mouth. But KU did what they needed to do.

We'll take 'em one game at a time. We'll see.

And so will you.

:)

Edited to add - it would be a huge mistake to think KU is the same kind of team as KSU.

I know they're not, but KU and KSU split their two games this year.

Davidson (10) beats Georgetown (2) and UNC fans are elated (not that they'd get past Wisconsin or Kansas)!

The crowd was wild! Exciting game!

:)

It was! So was Butler Tennessee. And Villanova should be as close to a buy as Kansas can get at this stage. ;)

And UNC looks like they own Arkansas so far.

We're watching Louisville/Oklahoma right now - still rooting for those Big 12 teams, don'tcha know!

They're not doing so well, though.

My local boys were down by 15 before coming back to lead by two... but Western Kentucky went on a 16-8 run and put it away...

...after ending all those years of losing to Gonzaga in the conference tournament finals and finally getting that WCC crown, I had hopes of duplicating Gonzaga's success at reaching the Sweet Sixteen.

...SDSU is really my fave college basketball program, but they were finished even earlier...lost to Florida in the first round of the NIT...

I also enjoyed Davidson's win... I had a couple of those floor rushing/mound rushing moments in college and seeing it always brings that feeling back...

Good game. Western Kentucky has a rich basketball tradition. But they're going home next week.

Did you play basketball in college?

Basketball and baseball... Division III

of course, in basketball about the only time I got on the floor was during a rush or at the end of a blowout...

My basketball skills were as defined by my ability to throw a ball as my baseball skills were...

An old pick-up play buddy used to always call me Montana on the court after the commercial where Joe Montana did the pick up game thing...

All the guys start peppering Joe with questions; can you shoot, can you play D, can you rebound? He keeps saying no... Then one asks, "Can you pass?" Joe just smiles and says very casually, "Yeah, I can pass..."

That was me. I sucked at everything else.(OK, I could hit the occasional three) But I could pass.

I vaguely remember that commercial. :D

Baseball catcher and basketball guard here. I was a decent athlete, but not Division I material. So where I went guys like me battled it out in intramurals.

Actually, they're not doing that badly. Their overall record is 7 and 4, and they have two teams in the Sweet 16 out of six entrants.

Of the power conferences, the Big Ten has best win-loss pct. at 5 - 2. The SEC has the worst, at 4-5. The Big Ten has 2 teams in the Sweet 16 and the SEC has one.

The Big East has three teams in the Sweet 16 and a 10-5 record. They had eight teams entered. The Pac Ten has three survivors out of six entrants and a record of 6-3. Two teams, Oregon and ASU had mediocre records, at best, and were not tournament winners, and I don't how they got an invite. The ACC is also not doing well, at 4-3 out of four teams in the tournament. UNC is their only survivor.

Those are the six conferences that I think of as power conferences. Conference USA is actually is undefefeated, with two wins, but that is only one team.

Actually I was referring to Oklahoma as to not doing well against Louisville.

I'm pretty happy with KU and Texas in the Sweet 16 - it was expected.

Can't wait until next weekend!

:D

Yeah, The Sooners got stomped pretty badly. Surprisingly so, because they're pretty good.

I heard the Mountaineers are playing. Who are they?

LOL. My alma mater. West Virginia University ... and they've cut Xavier's lead from 18 down to 5. Let's hope they have a terrific 2nd half like they did against Duke!

*sigh* Oh, well.

Sweet 16 three of the last four years -- and NIT champs the off year -- ain't too bad. ;)

Told you they might beat Duke!

Now you're just pissing me off, jomar. Is that the idea here?

Excellent game! I was rooting for WVU! I thought they deserved the win.
