The Official Authors' Hangout Halloween Contest Thread 2017

Well, I won’t be in it right at the beginning, but I’ll get there soon.

My entry should end up at around 35 hours from conception to birth to submission. That’s new for me. We'll see what it means in terms of the readers. I’m not terribly hopeful, but it’ll end up as a fun ride.

Time travel content! That’ll be another first for me.

Aughh! Hubris, you foul wench!

Going to turn out to be about 48 hours, when all’s said and proofread. A guy’s gotta eat.

Kudos to those of you who got your shit together enough to post on time, especially you multiple-story overachievers. Gonna be a good contest!

Good luck!

From the winner of last year's contest, I would just like to wish good luck to all this year's entrants! I don't have anything Halloween-y to submit this year, hoping to get something in in time for next year's contest. Can't wait to read and vote on this year's stories!

Well, hell. I knew I shouldn't have tried to write before I got some rest now the kids have gone home. My brain went on a strange trip and a tiny fairy made an appearance. In a damn Halloween story!

I don't believe in fairies!

R.I.P. my laptop. You shall be missed.

If this isn't an unfortunate setback, I don't know what is.

I suppose because I'm older and started writing on an old Smith Corona and IBM Selectric typewriter instead of a computer with a word processor but I can't write stories with a laptop. The keys are too small and with me Italian, English, and Czech, my fingers are too big.

I need my desktop with my giant screen. I need a keyboard that can take my lightning fast pounding. I need an ergonomic mouse instead of a finger pad. I realize, of course, that I can hook a big screen, a better keyboard, and a mouse to a laptop but why bother when the very best desktop is cheaper and more powerful than the best laptop?

Matter of fact, I have two 4.2 ghz desktops sitting on my desk. I use one to go on the Internet and use the other to write my stories. I never go on the internet with the computer that I use to write my stories.

Laptops are good if you're sitting somewhere waiting but when I write, I want to be comfortable. I want to be sitting in my Herman Miller Aeron chair, drinking my black, Starbucks French Roast coffee, while writing on my Microsoft sculpted keyboard and staring at my big, wide screen monitor. It doesn't get any better than that, until I open my bedroom curtains to enjoy the view while writing.

That's tragedy. Hope you've got your files backed up. On the plus side, your replacement is ready.....

Is anyone else noticing some oddball vote totals? One of my stories has six favorites but only two votes. While theoretically possible, that strikes me as really weird.

That'll happen. Some readers will favorite the story to read later, other times you'll get favorites but they won't rate it. I think mostly it's only us authors that pay attention to the ratings stars and votes.

Hey, and I just noticed my profile says I am now apparently a Literotica Guru. This is really scary

I've been writing here long enough to know that most readers don't vote. Many readers will open the story to read the first paragraph but that counts as a view.

You'd be lucky to receive 5 votes for every 1,000 views and 1 comment for every 10,000 views, sad but true.

Voting has gotten much worse since the NSA admitted that they monitor phones and computers. Voting has gotten much worse since the prostitution scandal in England where Johns were thrown under the bus and exposed.

Men don't want their wives, girlfriends, significant others, and/or mistresses to know that they read erotic stories.

I now do 90% of my Literotica writing on my smartphone with my thumbs. I wouldn't have believed this could be possible a few years ago but here I am, writing porn on the train, waiting in the coffee line, at my work desk, at the restaurant when my wife goes to the bathroom... the opportunities are endless.

I have just submitted my third, intended to be my first, story of 4 Lit pages.

...

Ogg - I'd love to see how many you could get in if you REALLY went for it

Two of the three entries were unfinished hangovers from previous years.

I've been working against family distractions for this contest. We've been more involved in grandchildren care and had my wife's cousins visiting. Shortly we're off for a week including a visit to my brother's widow and possibly seeing my nephews and nieces.

November might be quieter and I hope I can work on the Winter Holidays Contest. I have at least seven part-written stories in the pending folder. I'd like to finish at least one or two of them.

But I am still contemplating the possibility of a 15 x 50 word set for Halloween.

Okay, asking for help help help on category for my Halloween Story which is almost done now.

I’ve never tried a Science Fiction Alien Erotic Horror Non-Human Group Sex First Time Halloween story before, but hey, as an entry for the Literotica 2017 Halloween Competition I wanted to try something different and I think I've managed that.

My problem is, what category trumps what between Science Fiction, Erotic Horror, NonHuman, Group Sex and First Time (a very romantic first time too, to start with anyhow, altho it does involve an alien), so maybe Romance as well? And possible Non-Consent too.

What can you say, I’m totally confused about what category to put this one in …. heeeeeelp ..... Chloe

I'd probably try Non-human. It's a small group. The category might have a very committed group of readers (can't say for sure, don't know). You could launch a thread about what's acceptable there and/or PM authors who post there.

I was tossing up that or SF in all seriousness. Never thought about PM'ing authors that submit there. Duh! I'll go do that and thx for the suggestion.

If you put it in Erotic Horror, it should actually be horror. It should end badly. If it doesn't, it doesn't really belong there.

The Sci-Fi & Fantasy themes trump Group, First, and Romance. I would have normally said it trumped Non Con as well, but considering how that doesn't appear to be the case with incest any longer, I'm hesitant to say that so definitively.

So, that brings it down to S&F vs. Non Human.

In my opinion, Non Human requires a main character involved in the sexual parts to be not human. Having a single scene with a tentacle monster or a were-pug in there doesn't qualify.

If you don't have a non human MC, then it should probably be S&F. From everything else you've mentioned, I think it firmly fits as a story set in a Sci-Fi or Fantasy themed world not our own, which is the primary qualifier for the category IMO.

If you do have a non human MC, then you're probably better off going with Non Human even if the S&F world elements are just as strong. The readership is just a little bit bigger than that of S&F.

The MC is human female, and it ends badly for her. The alien sex thing is the main sex scene piece(s) but it's centered around the human MC, so I'm thinking SF, kind of. I guess Erotic Coupling wouldn't fly?

I'd love to toss it into First Time tho. The reaction. LOL! :D

When you have fantasy or sci-fi elements and you're not exactly sure whether it qualifies for the other two categories, S&F is typically the safe choice. The readership there is perfectly fine with non-human characters, and they accept stories that end badly, if not with great enthusiasm. The readership is used to a wide variety of themes and couplings, so long as the core setting fits the category. If the story is strong enough, even a not-happy ending can do reasonably well.

Of course, any story that ends badly isn't going to do gangbusters. It's just a little more expected in Erotic Horror, and thus a larger percentage of the readership view it favorably. It's a larger percentage of a small pool, though.

Haven't been in a contest in a few years. Decided I might as well try this year. Hi all, I doubt anyone remembers me!

I would like some kind of category-notice on the Contest entries list.

Especially on this since I suspect a lot more of NonHuman and Horror-stories in comparison to the other contests.

Alas, change comes slowly, if not at all
In the hallowed Literotica Hall
The story lists remain the same
For all eternity we share your pain
Who knows, one day, Categories may come
But by then we'll probably all be done

Sorry, rush of caffeine to the brain. That's awful I know.

My story has been submitted. We'll see if it flies. I'm going to try to finish a second one. Just a couple more scenes and then a lot of editing.
