I am a long time fan of the interracial, slut wife, impregnation genre I would like to encourage authors to look at the pre-Civil War period and the period immediately following it.
Here is a list of possible plot conditions, situations and historical facts:

1. There was a large population of black slaves on the plantations controlled by few whites. White wives lived in an environment that placed them on a lofty pedestal; too pure and proper, sex is something for procreation. A good husband does not burden his wife to satisfy his lust, he vents his lust with the female slaves.
2. In the upper levels of southern society, most husband and wives slept in separate bedrooms. Second homes in a main city, New Orleans, Charleston… would cause husband and wives to live separately for various reasons.
3. Plantation homes with large second floor verandas, allowing easy access to the bedroom from the outside. Servant rooms, back hallways separate buildings for kitchens, no indoor plumbing, all add to the possible rendezvous for wives and their lovers.
4. Personal servants, maids, house boys, coachmen, stable boys wet nurses (many southerners thought that breast feeding was for the poor, so many a planters white baby grew up on the breast milk from a lactating female slave).
5. Clothing; no zippers, elastic, or panties, women wore petticoats(under skirt like garments) and drawers (a light loose fitting pants like under garment that ended mid calf or knee drawn around the waist and they were crotch less front to rear, leaving a woman’s nether regions exposed to air circulation.) If a male suitor can get under all those petticoats nothing in his way to the prize. The male field slaves would have worn loose pants tie at the waist with a piece of rope and shirt made from a flour sack or home made cloth. House slaves wore nicer clothes fitting with their job or task.
6. Up until the end of slavery, we still had indentured servants mostly from Europe contracted for a fixed time of service to pay off the voyage to America. States had laws to discourage race mixing between white women & black males this included laws increasing a woman’s length of servitude. Pregnancy could increase the term as long as 20 years and the child would become property of the master. A plantation owner could profit by encouraging (forcing?) such relationships.
7. Daughter, sisters, wives, fiancées and aunts engage in sexual relations with blacks both free and slave. A woman’s sexual need satisfied by a white man other than her husband was hazardous to a woman’s reputation. Blacks where often used because they would keep quiet about the encounter because of the threat of punishment. I have a text that documents incident of this occurring “White Women, Black Men: Illicit Sex in the 19th Century South” by Martha Hodes. If you do an internet search, you can find excerpts from the more interesting parts.
8. Birth control was difficult or unreliable (withdrawal, douching and various folk methods sponges and herbs, some herb where used to cause miscarriage aka abortion but some risk was involved). When pregnant a woman could always take a long trip to aunts, Europe, the Caribbean or up North.
Various plot themes:

1. The over sexed daughter is influenced by the activities of older brothers and or sisters into a relationship with a slave (perhaps the slave becomes dominate over women). Perhaps her one time childhood slave playmate, now her personal servant experiences with well-hung black males tempts her into tasting the forbidden fruits that the slaves have to offer. (the could be a bi-lesbian angle)
2. The lonely (young?) widow seeking comfort and relief from a slave. A widow in some states would need a male family member to retain ownership of her property this would require a son or brother. Her corrupt greedy in-laws or other relatives, conspiring to take control of the family fortune. Rejection of a male suitor, who just will not take no for an answer, in some way sets her up for blackmail (with an interracial component) she must marry him for his silence so can he gets control of her wealth and land.
3. Yankee abolitionist preacher and his wife traveling through the south preaching to small church congregations the evils of slavery. A group of hooded white men takes the couple captive and who view them as nigger loving Yankees who need to be taught a lesson in true nigger loving!
4. Riverboats traveled up and down the river systems of the central US linking the south with the north. Black cabin stewards could be prevailed upon to provide a little extra service for a generous tip.

If I think of any other ideas or plots lines I will post them.

Many wonderful ideas. I hoe someone takes then up. An issue woul dbe how the white women deal with their pregnancies by the Black studs.

its soooo fawking old and boring, why do you have to re-hash and remash the same ole' crap? its all about white/black people neuroses. its so old, doesnt it ever get tired for your folks??

Blacksnake there are ref. for some of this material one source is state records from that period because the state legistature handeled divorce cases not courts. I beleive the state of Virginia was the state there is a book that has ref. to this and other recorded cases it is “White Women, Black Men: Illicit Sex in the 19th Century South” by Martha Hodes if you search the inter net you may find a ref.
Here are two paragraphs from a book review:

Martha Hodes provides another intriguing story of interracial sex in "White Women, Black Men, and Adultery in the Antebellum South." She debunks the stereotype that the sex between black men and white women in the South was both a taboo and a forced one, by using the records of an 1852 divorce case of a white husband and his wife who openly maintained an illicit relationship with a black slave man. I particularly like the ways in which Hodes interprets and analyzes certain situations even when the evidence seems limited. One of the striking findings is "a marked absence of white outrage and violent retribution toward the participating black man, whether slave or free" (p. 146) who has had a continuous adulterous relationship with a white married woman. Hodes argues that the link between interracial sex involving white women, black men, and murderous white violence was not in place prior to the Civil War.

She also shows that the reason the white husband decided to seek a divorce, after long putting up with his wife's adultery, was because he did not want the economic responsibility of the children from his wife's adultery, and not his anger concerning the wife's sexual relationship with a black slave. We learn that the husband's divorce was denied, proving again the complexities inherent in the institution of racial slavery in the hierarchical antebellum South.
