What's the best lube for sex?

Even though the OP has been gone for 11 years...

... it's still a worthwhile topic(al).

KY is crap, as are most water-based lubes (IMHO). I learned from a bi couple who loved to play in the hot tub (it's great for shower sex as well) - use some kind of oil-based lube, even if you're not in the water.

I like ID Millennium: it works well and lasts a while. I'm not really an aficionado - once I find something adequate, I tend to look no further. There may well be better products out there.

For a good old fashioned jerk-off session, I stay with the old school favorite: Vaseline. Lasts forever.

Pure Coconut Oil

After years of experimentation, we have found pure coconut oil to be great for both vaginally and analysis penetration. Good for masterbation, easy on toys.

Aloe Cadabra!

We've discovered Aloe Cadabra - available at Whole Foods and not many other places. Super slippery, lasts a long time, doesn't smell, doesn't stain. Totally edible an the vanilla is very tasty - make yourself a vanilla cream pie...

Coconut Oil

I have become a definite fan of Coconut Oil.....who knew it would be found in the cooking oil section of the supermarket!

Sweet almond oil. I get it at a health food store. Tastes good, pleasant aroma, not expensive.

Going to try it for the first time tonight. I hope all goes well

Let me rephrase that a little bit.

My husband and I have decided to explore new ways of our intimacy, including using toys and lubrication and more It is an act of love to want your partner to have the best experience.

I have renewable sources that works perfectly for penetrative sex but if he chooses to cut the foreplay shorter during anal, we use coconut oil.

I swear by coconut oil. It's not too thick and it's not too fluid. It's got the perfect amount of viscosity and it's great for your skin as well. Think about it. We never care much for our genital skin! This could be 2 birds in one stone! :) It's COMPLETELY harmless as well, if it gets inside your bits or mouth or anything.

But, if you live somewhere where coconut oil is sold in the solid form and you have to spend time melting it (it melts pretty easily btw), consider planning in advance ;) Have fun!

Yes, if it is a bit cold in your house, or the coconut oil has solidified more than you like, you can microwave it for, say, 15 seconds, and it liquefies completely. I usually have some in a smaller plastic container than the original jar, so as to just liquefy just the amount needed.

The melting or saturation point of coconut oil is 75-78 degrees Fahrenheit.
Translated, coconut oil changes from a solid to a liquid around 77 degrees.

As a bisexual male, with a some kinky anal fetishes, I have experience in both realms.

I've used a variety of lubricants, for both anal and vaginal sex, over the years and all pretty much have their good points and bad points.

The first, of course and this was for self administered anal mind you, was Vaseline. The advantage was (is) that it lasts almost forever and is waterproof (since much of my anal play was and is in the shower) . The disadvantage is that it's not really compatible with latex condoms or latex rubber toys though I've never had it cause in any issues. The compatibility issue is not a concern with new vinyl and silicon toys though.

Then there's Albolene and I can't praise this stuff enough. I first learned of it when I saw it being used in the first gay porn magazines (first gay sex) I ever saw. That piqued my interest and my first use of it is mentioned in my first story. It's oil and petrolatum based and is slippery as hell. It works well for anal sex, vaginal sex, and is just outstanding as a lube for masturbation. I've pretty much always had a tub of it around for around 45 years. It's my wife's preferred lubricant for receptive anal sex. The only disadvantage, like Vaseline, is the incompatibility with condoms but in my early experimentation with the gay lover of my youth this wasn't a concern since AIDS had hardly been heard of and we were exclusively with each other as well. Same with my wife. It can be a little messy (put a towel down on the sheets) and harder than some to clean up as well but the lasting emollient effect from the residue is actually another benefit.

Then, there's KY. A mix of Vaseline and KY, Vaseline first to thoroughly lube the anus and rectum and provide some lasting emollient, and KY liberally applied to the toy(s) and replenished as necessary for slipperiness, supported my anal play, with BIG anal toys, for decades. KY alone works too as long as you replenish it regularly and the thickness is an advantage in giving it lasting power over some of the more recent lubes. For those into watersports, and who might use devices like colon tubes or Bardex (and Bardex-like) enema/retention nozzles, KY is safe for these and, again, the thickness makes it last while wetness (especially in the shower) enhances its lubricating quality. When done, it washes right up with soap and water.

Again, mixing things to make the sum of both products superior to one alone we've also used a mix of KY and Astroglide. The KY gives some lasting power to the Astroglide while the Astroglide makes the KY more slippery. The same occurs when mixing Atroglide liquid with the Astroglide Gel (both original and the new silicon formula). This is pretty much our preferred mix when my wife is pegging me with anal toys or taking my ass with a strapon phallic dildo and it works very well.

When I was a young man, and really continuing with my current wife till the last few years (when they changed the formula), I always had a bottle of Kama Sutra Oil of Love (original) around and it enhanced the pleasure for me and female partners for decades. It's very slippery and I loved the smell, taste, and warming effect though again, as an oil, it could get messy. The new formula is not an oil but rather glycerin and propylene glycol based, like so many other lubes, and I think it took away the old mojo. We also used to love Kama Sutra's original "Aromatic Sensual Massage Oil" (when there was only one formula) . It just plain smelled like sex to me and we used it as a massage oil which, of course, eventually ended up in and on our privates for a bit of the old "in-out-in-out" or just mutual masturbation. They've changed the formula and there are now six scents and we're not sure which is the original. We think it's the "Serenity" because it has marjoram as did the original.

Finally, for good ol' straight vaginal sex we've been using KY "Yours + Mine" for many years now, in fact since we first saw an ad for it on TV and found it the store. We've found that it works as advertised and we love the process and playfulness of "she gets the pink on, around, and in her vagina" and "he gets the blue on his penis". Mix them together and...Wow! That said, in a sexual frenzy last night in the dark we couldn't tell which bottle was which. She took one, I took the other, we both smeared a healthy dollop on our own privates and diddled around with self pleasure for bit, before we had the most blind blowing fuck in a long time. When the lights came on after, we found that she had the blue and I had the pink bottle so maybe it really doesn't matter as long as it all gets mixed up in the end.

Wow, that's a lot of information about lubricants. That will sure help a lot of those looking for the right one. Good information, thanks for sharing.
