Rejected, oops

Hi, I’ve done a short story based on personal experience. It makes an implication about a subject none of us wish to discuss or even think about and of course was rejected. It never crossed my mind whilst writing, that it really broached this subject however, re-reading there’s a paragraph that definitely needs changing. For me, I’d like to be able to possibly leave said implied subject matter, but it needs to be less blatant, more suggested perhaps. For me it’s central to what shaped my life, to who I am, and that’s the reason I’d like to include it if possible.
Looking for ideas, options and advice.
Many thanks Yvonne

If it was rejected for the reason you think it was and you believe that topic isn't permitted here, you have two options: trim it down without that element. True stories aren't valued that highly here; it's fine to fictionalize your story within the framework of what's permitted here. OR write what you want but post it to a story site that permits that element.

I’ve rewritten it, just finished just now. I believe I’ve been caught out due to differences in the age of consent between Europe and the USA. It’s no big deal really, I think after having three submissions accepted it was just a wee blow to my self esteem as I try to improve with my writing. I’m no author and never will be, however it’s my belief that everyone’s story is important and deserves a place here if that’s where they wish to place it. As regards the guidelines, well, boundaries are there to be pushed or you’d just get rehashes of the same old, again and again.
Thanks for you thoughts.

And the site's reject button is there to try to maintain the standards they set for a site they own.

There are some things that can't be pushed though.

If you feel like you just have to see how young you can go, or if you can get Fido and Fluffy in the sack with you, you already know what's coming. There's no need to ask on the forums, and your self-esteem issues are moot at that point.

Yes, that’s their prerogative and should be respected. But I was seeking advice, not a lecture with aggressive undertones!

If you had bothered to correctly read my reply to the guy who first had the courtesy to comment, you would be aware that I’d fully accepted my error in getting confused with the age of consent. In Europe, where I reside it’s is sixteen. In the more conservative USA it’s eighteen. It was on my part a genuine error, not an attempt to be controversial or difficult.
Perhaps the putdown attitude I’ve received from some on this forum, is the reason many struggle on blindly on their own.
Again, I came here to seek advice from experienced Lit authors and editors, not smarty pants comments from little schoolboys.

Not that it matters as Lit's rules are all that applies. But in most of US the age of consent is below 18 but due to our federal system each state decides for that state. Eighteen is the age when one can pose nude and the like and maybe that is why Lit draws the line there.

Your quote is the problem people are having. They come off stern because you're arguing (semi-arguing) site rules that that you said should be respected. This comes up a lot and I've only been in the forum for a year while some of the people have been here a lot longer and when they answer, they answer with years of 'Why do people think their opinion is going to get a round of applause when no one else's has?'

You didn't need to put up a thread for advice. The advice was going to be simple: Follow site rules. Don't try to bend them or skirt them, follow them. There are sites that have no boundaries, you could go there and then the discussion grows long.

Also, the age of consent varies in America between 16 and 18. I think site rules for 18 is to limit unwanted exposure and maintain some decency and that's another topic altogether.

Anyway, they weren't smarty pants answers from little schoolboys. You were given advice and the thread would have ended there but then you made the above comment I quoted, which comes off as a child's pouty way of saying, 'this ain't fair.'

Now, for my advice, even though you already solved your problem.

I had a story rejected and finally accepted without having to change anything, but on my second attempt, I left an explanation addressing the possible reasons the site gave me for rejection. After a few days, it was accepted. So, if you felt you weren't being blatant in breaking the rules or were unaware that you were, comments in the notes box addressing the possible problems might have helped you get it pushed through as is. if it happens again in the future, I hope my experience helps you try again before making changes.

Huh, who do you think you are, offer advice but at a price. Listen to my advice then I'll help you! No, I asked for advice not abuse because you all think your better than everyone else. I have already explained where I went wrong, why do you lot keep insisting on making it something more! It's not big and macho! I feel so sorry for all of you.

Most of our stories were written by my husband. Apparently, like yours, are true stories. Starting at the beginning of our lives together, the proper way to start, he wrote the truth. As with many young couples, we were too young. Also at an earlier age I was raped. Something else mostly not permitted. But as you wrote, it changed my life, and my husband's later. It took most of my life to actually get over that part and live a different life.
All of this was bypassed by just making us older in the stories. So even true stories sometimes contain lies but it's the only way to pass. Actually no big deal.
We also are not writers but hubby felt our little stories were worth sharing. We also found that true stories don't go well when people want trashy gangbangs and other sex.
When one of us tries to explain these little details we always expect these comments to be deleted. We've always lived by the real rules and the law when doing anything sexual. We had our own reasons for marrying young.

I think I'm me and me will go his own way now.

Look, I'm so sorry for letting loose at you, that wasn't fair of me at all. I apologize unreservedly and thank you for taking the time out to try and help.
The actions of others should never encroach on the actions of individuals.
I will message you an apology directly.

You two are an inspiration to us all.
I wish you both, health, happiness, good health and many more good bonking years to come. 💓

Thanks, I've no issue with that, in fact I explained it was my fault earlier in this thread. Thanks for your input

I imagine that the Web site has its 18 rule either on pure personal preference (which is its privilege to have) or to limit the type of reader who visits its Web site. It doesn't really have anything legal to do with the laws on use of images. That doesn't impact on writing, and the mainstream writes under 18 sex and exploitation at will.

You didn't get a lecture from me. This is the Web site's rule, not mine, and it is consistently being questioned and challenged by users. I got aggressive undertones from your original posting. There's no secret here what the Web site's rules are on underage. It crops up on the forum every week.

Well, that was interesting. I’ve seen this scenario played out on fora all over the internet time and time again: the OP asks for help and gets lectured by the high-minded subject matter experts.
To your (plural) credit though, this episode was brief and seems to have been resolved amicably. Kudos to the OP for refusing to be pushed around and for calling them out on it.
Kudos too to the experts for knowing when to back off. Your knowledge has value. Your continued patience with the same repeated novice questions is a virtue. Your of function, of course, is necessary.

This isn't an "experts" thing. That the Web site doesn't publish underage is not only clearly spelled out in the guidance, but it's also hashed out on the forum a couple of times a week. This is someone not reading the instructions or wanting to fight about them. The "experts" are just pointing out an existing Web site rule. And it's understandable that they get a little irritated at the constant failure to read or need to fight a Web site rule. In this thread case, the acknowledgment of the rule doesn't mean much when the OP still wants to open a thread about it.

Hey folks, just to let you all know my story got published at the second submission. I'd to make a few little changes but nothing major.
Anyways I'm really pleased as I've got a HOT red symbol for the first time, yay.
So thanks everyone for your assistance 💓
