Worst/Favourite Feedback You've Received

Here we go.

NIGGER BULLSHIT!
WHY IS THIS STORY IN THE LW CATEGORY? IT SHOULD BE IN THE FETISH NIGGER CATEGORY. YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WIFE TO A BLACK MAN. YOU WON'T EVER GET HER BACK. YOU STUPID PATHETIC SICK FUCK CUCKOLD ASSHOLE

I had to laugh at your comment because it resembled one I got on
this story.

You Disgusting Psychopathic Bitch
May you rot in hell forever.
I think the author of those "piece" is an african wanna-be, writing sex dreams hoping that some low life white female who prefers screwing animals would be beckoned by his deceitful promise. The lie that all africans are soo great and masculine must be attacked.
Most african males are effeminate sissies. They are poor lovers and not well endowed.
But the female scum who reads such african racist propaganda is already a racist who will believe anything. Doom on you to hell

I found it particularly funny, too because I'm a guy. Most of the time.

I'd take that as a compliment. You made your characters and story believable, and you made the reader care. :D

That's the way I took the comment.

I just saw this thread tonight and made a comment. After posting it I went on to read many other's posts and I have come to a decision.
I have a lot of reading to do.
Just by the nature of the comments I feel compelled to go back and read the stories that prompted them.

I've only written two stories. Most of the comments I've got were good, but the first ever comment I got really put me off bothering with more. It said:

Wow.

This atrocity was horribly written.

My second story got a comment that said:

Need to warn about gay crap

You need to warn about gay crap or to be pc bisexual in the beginning.
I wouldn't have started to read this junk story if I knew what to expect.

Is this a valid point? Could I somehow provide more of a warning. The story has "gay" as one of its tags. It's an incest story and the description says he gets it from his whole family (i.e. men and women). Thelink in my sig below describes it as "a whole family bisexual playtime". This seems fairly clear to me. Is it?

...your descriptions seem totally clear, to me...some people don't have the intellectual capacity to realise that bi-sexual can mean male/male as well as female/female...they see 'bi-sexual' and figure "hot-dayam, I get to read about two girls getting it on"...that is as far as their small minds can travel and then they feel they have to blame you for their insecurities...so no, the criticism didn't make a valid point, except about the mind set of the critic...and, for the record, I don't believe I read 'Camping Trip', but I do remember reading 'Birthday Treats' and found it a decent read...good fortune in your stories...

I've found that anything with a male-male angle goes in the Gay Male section or has a high chance of receiving comments like this at Literotica.

Posting this one because I think they should get credit for going out and buying a thesaurus.

Such arrogance!

What appalling penmanship! I can only wonder what sort of deluded egotist believes people really want to wade through all that hyperbole, and then struggle through ten pages of stultifyingly pedestrian semi-literacy!

Perhaps most incredible of all... the chapters just go on and on - and on - and on.

Much like an over-flowing drain...

Jeez I told my mom if she doesn't like it she doesn't have to read it!

I will admit to having to check the meaning of stultifyingly. I have actually left this up and have had over a dozen of my readers tell me I should delete it. To me that would not be right. If we proudly display the positives we should also allow these to hang around as well.

...don't you just love the ones posted by that 'anonymous' person...?...he or she seems to get around a lot...as you say, though, they should get extra points for using the thesaurus...though the 'appalling penmanship' comment kinda went past me...'Penmanship'...?...on a 'puter...?...go fig...

Yeah the penmanship thing got me as well. I really do not believe they read it either. But hey I roll with it.

By the way nice Army of Darkness quote.

...yeah, I have found that 'rolling with it' keeps my ulcers in check...as for the quote, if you mean my sig line 'Gort: Klaatu burada nikto' that actually comes from a much earlier movie 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', though I can see Bruce Campbell using it in 'Army of Darkness', too...

Okay, I can't really consider this the worst. Nor can I consider it my favorite. But I can definitely consider it odd:

"audiences ... audiences ...

agreeing with potential validity, spoken in an expectant tone - makes me fear for some youthful (not necessarily in years) members of our culture.

this chance correct interpretation of can be devastating even when the the driving libido(es) is/are complementary -- post act often returns blood to the upper head finding an often sought after guilt - and the initiating horror story of a lovving tryst. still liked story"

So I'm guessing that since he (yes, the person actually had a user name and is listed as male on his profile) said "still liked story" that means it's good feedback?

Considering this was my first ever story posted to Interracial, I guess I should be happy it didn't completely tank.

Damn. You know you got me. Now that I think of it Campbell said Klaatu Veratta nikto. sucks when the geek moments cross up.

But yeah you can;t take this shit too seriously. Honestly I have to say that it annoys me when authors pull all the negative public comments-I mean if it is really outrageous or obscene then I can see it- but otherwise it's like lying to yourself if you can't acknowledge the bad as well. Honestly sometimes over the top comments will get people to check you out.

Even bad reviews/feedback can get you more readers (or in real world publishing...beyond Lit...more sales)

Of course, the authors usually don't publicize the bad reviews on their books in real world publishing, but here where the feedback is public (yes, not always I know) people will want to see what all the fuss is about. I know bad feedback will sometimes draw me to a story, especially if it's an author I read regularly.

...I don't have that much published on Lit so I don't have all that many 'bad' feedback comments...so far, anyway...but, I know that I HAVE tracked down stories that have had less than stellar feedback comments just to see if it is as 'BAD' as the 'critics' said...and have found, most of the time, that I have liked the stories...oh well, I am a dirty OLD PROvert...

Grow a thick skin

It's the best advice anyone can give an author. You will never please all the people all of the time. Bad reviews come in three flavors,

1. The I hate everything and your a ______ (fill in the blank). These come from the hopeless and pathetic usually ana mouse. Never leaves a name, derides everything.

2. I read it in a category I don't like and I hated it? Why they are reading stories in the gay porn category and then are offended by the gay sex, (or pick any other category, i.e. bsdm but hates pain and degradation, ect, ect, is beyond me but you get them all the time.

3. The third is I loved your story butt.... This is usually followed by scathing criticism.

I love my readers, I love their comments and some of the constructive crit. has actually made me change the way I write for the better. The three flavors above I just shrug off and usually leave on my stories as everyone is entitled to an opinion even assholes. I think I have only deleted three in the years I have been writing and those were pure vitriol with no redeeming value.

Keep writing and grow a thick skin.

So one comment made you not want to write any more? Seriously? As Domwoolf said, you need to grow a thicker skin. Put in a disclaimer at the beginning of your story about the content if you think it's going to be an issue. But usually the description or category should clue in the reader what the story's about. If he/she continues to read after they see what the story is about, that's their fault.

Letting a negative comment (or two) influence your decision to post more stories here is ludicrous. But hey' that's obviously your call.

Might note that there can be a difference between "unfavorable" comment and "bad" comment--as well, sometimes, as between "good" and "honest" comment.

Mich, it is a good story. I think the commenter may have been a wee bit distracted, but if s/he liked the story, then take the kudo.

Best Feedback Will Never Appear

Grandmaster dweaver999 praising my latest addition to the Valerie canon, "A New Biorth of Freedom Ch 2", in an e-mail to me licensing his copyrighted works for my single use in publishing the story. I don't care if the story gets scored a minus one. I got the feedback I dreamed about.

Congrats

Read between the lines (or w/ spellcheck)

I had submitted a chapter revision that was erroneously posted to an earlier series. I noted the mix up on my profile and requested readers to be patient while editors were making the correction. Then I received the following:
“I'm not mocking your stories (infact I do love the many diffrent genres you lightly touch base, on compared to other literotica members whose only use for the website is to write really crappy stories) I am merely just commenting constructive criticisim on behalf of any future stories that you may write, I mean you really wouldn't want to intentionally evoke frustration and confusion to any of you readers would you?”

I wanted to delete the comment but why deny myself the free "constructive criticisim?"

And the next comment was "I agree w/ the previous comment."

Oh well...

Oh I will definitely look at it as good feedback, if not a bit odd. I can honestly say it's the most unusual feedback I've received.

Thanks, by the way, for the read. Glad you liked the story.

Know I will sound like a jerk here but if that comment stopped them from writing then "daddyslittlebitch" is a very appropriate handle. I mean when you go public with your writing you need to expect this kind of thing. Hell I remember being surprised at the nice remarks when I started.

Honestly several times since I have been writing I have found that very negative remarks have inspired me to do better. It's that immature "Oh yeah well fuck you I'll show you" mentality but whatever works works.

Of course if you put your writing up publicly you should expect feedback of all kinds. If you don't want it, then set it so no one can give feedback, either on the story or in email, or don't put your work up on a free public site.

I used to get disheartened by the negative feedback when I first started writing here, but I got over it very quickly because the positive feedback always, ALWAYS outweighed the negative.

I work with a vision board (assuming you know what that is) on it I have several very nice feed backs printed and posted there to get me through some of those "dry" times and make me feel good. On the other side of it however I also have several negative ones-constructive ones I don't take the "you suck" ones seriously- for the days I am feeling too full of myself.

I think both positive and negative have their place and that a writer can take from and learn from both. As for the outright stupid ones such as "You are the sickest fuck on this site etc... those just make me laugh.

Yeah, me too. Those and the ones where people criticize my grammar and spelling with poor grammar and spelling.
