When it you want to prompt for asking the readers name... now I have seen many write first name is one persons name and second name is anothers, or them not even asking. However, how do I set up the empty place for the name(s) to be added to my story so the reader can have their names in the story correctly?

Thanks

The immersive text is a simple feature, but that also makes it clunky. Activation is performed by selecting the option "Prompt for Reader's Name" during story creation, and can be added in after the fact with editing - this creates the prompt on the cover pages of stories. Use requires writers to substitute in the text "{FIRST_NAME}" and {LAST_NAME}" (no quotation marks) at different and hopefully appropriate points in the story - this will inject the entered names into the story wherever these lines of text are written. Choosing to not submit anything in these spaces will cause the site to default to John/Jane for the First Name, and Doe for the Last Name.

Some creators choose to have set names for characters from the beginning, so some leave this box unchecked and add in names that won't change throughout the story. The 15-20 minute restrictions on the site will not only automatically log out a user, but will also reset the submitted options; the site will substitute in a blank space unless you reactivate the system with either personal or default names. Accessing a thread with immersive text and no prior submition on an interactive story cover (accessing threads through a search, from a user's list of threads, or a link) will cause the same space to be inserted as opposed to default or personal names.

There's no difference between the code for using two names for two characters or a first and last name for one character (and, in some cases, said character's family), all that changes is how you choose to use this feature. Normally, users write a warning at the top of the first thread of the story summarizing how the immersive text is to be used in this story; however, some moderators move this over to the Story Guidelines, so it's a good idea to check in on this after submission and check on it every so often. Other users choose to use the first thread to introduce the character(s) and establish how they're using the immersive text. A perfect example of both of these methods is "A Boy at a Girls School." At the very top of the thread is an explanation on how the text is supposed to be used in this story, and the body of the thread details that the {LAST_NAME} is used for a different character than the {FIRST_NAME}. Additionally, if you went directly to the thread from this page with no prior interaction with the immersive text, you'll find grammar problems which clearly stem from the absence of two names.

Unfortunately, some users don't quite understand the different methods of using this feature or the feature itself, causing them to select the prompt in a story that has fixed names attached instead of the text, or writing {LAST_NAME} for use as another character's first name as opposed to the Main Character's last name.

Hopefully, this detailed explanation answers all of your questions pertaining to immersive text. If not, just ask.
