It's obvious that the writers here are a diverse and interesting bunch. I'm curious - what inspired you to start writing erotica in the first place?

For me, the seed was planted years ago, when I was still a journalist. A colleague and I got to talking about whether it would be difficult to write a sex scene, and we challenged each other to do it. Somehow, we never got it done, but the idea lived on.

A few years later, I had changed careers to one requiring a lot of travel. One weekend, I was on the road, lonely and bored, and I thought about that conversation and decided to give it a try. I was amazed at how hard it was to do well! However, I also liked the challenge and the escape it gave me from regular life. So here I am.

What's your story?

I enjoyed writing creative stories as a child, but stopped doing so as an adult. I love reading fiction and for years nurtured the idea that I would try writing it someday.

Sometime around 2000 I started reading online erotica and became familiar with this site and others. I read stories for years and over time the desire to write increased. I was often inspired by stories I read and enjoyed. I wanted to try to write stories similar to those I enjoyed, but write them in a way that I thought might better meet my own standards of what an erotic story should be. My artistic interests also were kindled by new personal erotic experiences in middle age. I'm intrigued by the theme of erotic self exploration and people pushing against their own boundaries and society's boundaries to explore new sexual experiences. The combination of things spurred me on to write.

Finally, in late 2016, after many aborted starts, I began writing in earnest. I started with my light dominance and submission tale, In the Hallway, but I interrupted that story to complete The Holiday Party in about a day to submit it in time for the Winter holiday contest. I published both stories in December 2016 and haven't looked back. I've published 24 stories so far. It's been an enjoyable, rewarding experience.

For me, it was horniness. In college, I used to write erotic fanfic based on challenges from friends. When I joined lit a couple years ago I wrote a fanfic in response to a challenge. When I rejoined lit, I started two RPGs surrounding conversations/fantasy scenarios that lit friends mentioned (who, ironically, never joined the RPGs). However, the erotica I write for close personal friends, but don't put out there, typically come what I find arousing.

Whatever story I write I typically focus on what interests me as a heterosexual woman and things I'd love to see in erotic fiction focused on women (or using women as characters ;) ) -

Mandatory retirement.

For nearly forty years I did a job that engaged my brain. But I was forced out due to excessive experience. (They call it age, same difference.)

So now I run a business we own, Boooooring.

We hired competent people, they don't really need adult supervision. As I tell people, "if I sat at my desk and slept or mixed mimosas it would send the wrong signal to my dedicated employees." So grandma sits at her computer and writes her naughty stories and looks busy. Recalling memories and writing fictionalized versions of those memories and stories people have told me over the years.

“Dr. Erica Beaumar Surrenders” is my first story, written about five years ago. Originally it was titled “Dr. Erica Beauchamp Surrenders”, but a real Erica Beauchamp contacted me and asked me to change the name. She is a professional, and people googling her were coming across my story! 🤣

The story, of an attractive 30-something physician who falls in lust with her black patient, was simply a fantasy I had for many years. It is 100% fiction. My fantasy turned me on very much and kept me busy with myself many a lonely evening and morning. I refined it in my head over the course of a few years and decided to write it down for fun. Then I came across Literotica and decided to submit it.

It was a huge success! So many people seemed to love the story and Dr. Erica herself. To hear people tell me it was a great read and very erotic inspired me. That’s what I wanted to achieve - not just a dirty story, but an erotic one that makes the reader short of breath. Bases on the feedback that’s how people reacted, though of course some loathed it. I was very happy since it was my first try at writing.

I wanted to try some more. I delved into my treasure chest of fantasies, and my real life experiences. My subsequent stories are a melding of my real life and fantasies. My stories are a way to share the most intense aspects of my real experiences, and my fantasies.

I've been writing fiction since I was young and reading erotica for a few decades. For whatever reason, a hybrid of the two never crossed my mind. When you go through university they don't really teach you how to write a sex scene, you know? I've always pondered, if I get my PhD and end up teaching some where, would I ever have the balls to suggest an erotic creative writing course? "Intro to XXX" lol.

Anyways, a weird polyamory sci-fi story kept haunting me so I began to write it. It got to the point where I truly had to detail the bit of fucking but I had no clue where to start. I deferred back to a good source--Lit. I made an account finally. Then, as a writing exercise, I dove head first into BDSM. I used every vulgar word for the naughty bits that I could, detailed every aspect of sex and the entire time I was embarrassed, beet red and aroused. I threw the first chapter up so I could gauge how well I did in my attempt...that led to another, and another, and centaurs because why not.

Eventually I got over my shy hangups on using foul language in written and spoken form (I say cunt like *all* the time now). Honestly, erotica has improved me as a writer, I focus more on the details than I did before and I have Lit to thank for that

I have made my own porn my entire life. Some of my fantasies are rather specific, so there's no much choice. Well, if you include math, topographies and building plans in the term 'porn' when those are used as masturbatory aid along with shitty fast sketched drawings and unfinished one-page comics that tend to be hugely repetitive in retrospect... but drawing is the next best option after touching, so it's the process what matters there. Writing... not much I have done, writing erotica in my native language seems complete waste of effort (although that's extremely easy), English I do not speak, so it's hard, but also, perhaps the best sharing option.

Always been a storyteller

I've been a daydreamer/storyteller since a very young age. When puberty hit, I had tons of naughty stories swimming in my head that I couldn't share with anyone because I'm surrounded by religious prudes. At least my current partner is willing to hear my smut. LOL. Now I am working on a few projects for Literotica. It will be interesting to finally let some of those erotic tales out into the world.

Became a fan of online hardcore erotica after high school age. Loved the various themes and limitless possibilities.

I made an account here to look at the porn pics...lol

Years later i felt i had some ideas and wanted to give it a try. So i thought "dont i already have an account?" This one still worked so i wrote something and started submitting. The views keep me going.

I wrote in the mainstream for some time and was putting my characters into positions where there should be sex scenes. I was frustrated that I had to short shrift those and move on--and then one day, while writing a mystery book, I got to a place where the image of two characters coupling turned me on (and the scene didn't even require them responding to each other sexually). I let it rip. I had to take that scene out of that book, but I built a short story around it and from there I was writing erotica as well as mainstream.

Damn, lol

That sort of thing crosses my mind sometimes, but my stories are fictional enough for anyone to realize that none of it could be true.

In my case, not so much ‘what’ as ‘who?’

About 30 years ago, I dropped into the home of a lawyer-turned-writer who I knew. It was about 11 in the morning, and he answered the door in his bathrobe. I thought that he might have been sick or something but he said, no, he was just having a duvet day with the (female) sales director of a major publishing house. (They were both married; but not to each other.)

The writer invited me through to the bedroom where his partner-in-crime was sitting up in bed surrounded by erotic paperbacks of one sort or another. Apparently, they were finding the juiciest passages and then reading them to each other. (I think they were also doing other stuff, but I didn’t go into that.)

The writer made coffee and we sat around on and in the bed for about 20 minutes, drinking, chatting. And then I said I’d better be going.

‘You know you’d be quite good at writing this sort of stuff, Sam,’ the sales director said. And she gathered up a handful of the books and handed them to me. ‘Have a read. See what you think.’

So I had a read. And I thought, yeah, I could write this stuff – the gentle end anyway. :)

Though it's been rather on and off, I've been writing short stories and scenarios (mostly not erotica) for my own amusement since I was school aged - a long, long time ago.

But two things got me writing erotica to share - the generally poor quality (with a few notable exceptions) of the stories on the Usenet groups back in the 80's and 90's and the relatively small handful of stories that had couples like my lady and I.

I knew I could write something better than the majority of the stories out there at the time (which says more about their generally abysmal quality than my skills) and I was *really* put out by stories that showed mixed couples like us as stereotypes. It may be due to my lack of imagination, but most of the stories I wrote back then were couples that looked like us, or were so deliberately short on physical descriptions of the people involved that they could have been.

I gradually quit writing in the late '90s as other things took my time - more responsible job (with a lot of travel for about a decade), kids, other obligations. I still followed Literotica, but had just archived my stories on the ASSTR site and moved on.

But a few months ago I got a kick in the tail in response to a thank you message I sent to one of the current Literotica authors - I told them they were doing a better job of writing stories I liked than I'd ever done, and included a link to my archive to show them. What I got back was, "they're not that bad - why don't you at least post your stories here?" So I did And in the process of cleaning them up for submission I found my lost motivation.

I really don't know how well received my current story will be when I get it done - it's considerably longer, a lot raunchier, and has characters who have fun with (instead of subscribing to) ethnic stereotypes. But you know what? I'm having a ton of fun writing it.

It helps that I've learned that "I think this is a story I'm proud to have written" doesn't always map up to high ratings. One of the pieces I'm proudest of sits at 3.45/142 today - it's deliberately disturbing and not at all arousing (at least to me), but I think it did just what I set out to when I wrote it (https://www.literotica.com/s/party-girl-17). And I have other stories that have the coveted red H at the moment that I don't think I did as good a job with.

But although some of the stories I posted are weak by my current standards (some of them are close to 30 years old, for crying out loud!), they're all part of the learning process. Yes, I wince sometimes if I read them again - but there are more times I'm impressed that something I wrote for fun that long ago has held up so well.

One of my first relationships out of high school was with an older woman who lived over an hour ride away. We chatted online or on the phone and met up about once a week as our schedules aligned. To make up the gap in our not seeing each other she started sending me erotica she would write about us. I dipped my hand in response to her stories and found myself continuing to write long after we parted ways.

Fascinating. Worthy of a story itself.

Agreed. Also, I clearly need to add a few Duvet Days to my own life!

Very interesting stories - if many roads lead to Rome, many more lead to Literotica!

I couldn't find the sort of stories I like, so I decided to try writing them myself. Turned out I was decent, so continued.

I've been writing it for so many years, my writing predates the Internet as we know it today. I was fed up with the books and stories I found so I just wrote my own.

For me, I'd always been a writer. My D&D characters always had detailed backgrounds, I took part in several PBEM and forum RP games, I did e-wrestling for nearly a decade-and-a-half which involved both promo and match writing, and I even penned couple of well-reviewed Marvel fanfics. But actual original story writing evaded me. I had tons of story ideas, outlined several novels and got 100 pages written once, but nothing ever quite panned out for me. I either lost interest or life took over.

Then over the past few months, three things clicked for me.

1 - I started reading "Senior Year Memories" by aimingtomisbehave33 and was really impressed with how he manages to develop and give personality to his secondary characters.

2 - A friend of mine and I were joking one night about story ideas, and he said "dude, I'd love to see how you'd write a romance novel, or even flat out porn."

3 - My wife and I became good friends with another married couple, both whom are very motivational and encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone.

So I pulled an idea I had out of mothballs - two people trapped together because of a fallen tree due to a huge rainstorm, and after looking at it, started writing. And writing. And writing. And writing. Next thing you know I had 200 pages down and wasn't stopping.

Today I've got eight chapters up out of what will end up being fifteen or sixteen, am currently working on a story for the 2019 Nude Day contest, and have several ideas for an actual novel series as well as more Literotica stories.

I didn't make a choice to write smut (my stuff isn't artsy enough to be called erotica), it's just that my characters kept finding themselves in situations where they HAD to have sex in order to save the world.

Classic and so awesome. :D

Did Dr Beauchamp like the story? What was her reaction to the whole thing?

One evening, I suddenly realized that I had the plot for an erotica story in my head. I swat down and began to write. By three of four in the morning, I had several thousand words of the story written and a clear path to the rest of the story,.

I started reading fetish stories on Yahoo Adult Groups but I was disappointed with the quality of many of the stories, both in content and technical flaws of spelling and grammar.

I thought that I could do better, and the responses from some of the groups' members seemed to suggest that I was right. My first stories were written for specialist fetish groups and I still have some followers who are disappointed with my mainstream stories.

One story in particular, The Virgin Unbirth, was written with advice and input from the members of a now deleted Yahoo Adult Group for Unbirth. One of those members suggested I should try posting in Literotica, so in 2002 I did.
