I was stalled on two longer ones but I managed to finish the first draft of a shortish one today.
Now for the editing.
My alien is laying eggs......
And watch out for mayhem when they hatch...
Submissions must have a Halloween theme: costumes, scary situations, haunted houses, ghosts, supernatural, trick-or-treating, etc. Be creative! Please don't just submit a normal story with everyone in cosplay. That would not be in the spirit of the contest, and readers (aka voters) would probably punish you for your trickiness.
So, I'm not sure if my story fits or not. It is supernatural, and said supernatural being is being scary to some degree, but it doesn't scream Halloween. Should I go with it anyway?
Sure, that should be enough.

It falls within the rules. To wit; Supernatural + Scary.
If it really bugs you, just change the setting to Allhallowtide.
Allhallowtide is the watered down, cleaned up, Christianized version of Samhain. It spans three days beginning with All Hallow's Evening (October 31st) and is a feast commemorating the dead including specifically Saints and Martyrs. The Roman Catholic church figured they would have better luck converting the heathen pagans (i.e., Celts) if they kept at least some of the holidays in the calendar. By more ancient traditions, Samhain is one of the four major feasts and, arguably, the time of year when the barriers between this world and the next are at their thinnest, allowing a greater influx of Aos Si to cross into the mortal realm. (Aos Si meaning "fairies", "spirits", and pretty much any supernatural beings.) So, by ancient traditions, the scariest shit happens then.
BUT~ frankly, my personal opinion (worth probably a little less than you paid for it), if you went with supernatural and scary, I don't see how that isn't much more in the spirit of Halloween than slutty costumes (unless they are the first few victims) regardless of when it happens.
With the kids coming day after tomorrow for an extended visit, I doubt I'll get my own entry done in time. (And yeah, it's probably weird that I feel weird about writing pornotica while they're here since they are in their 40s.) But, about the only mention I made of Oct. 31st is that was the day the first person protag was born (by C-section as his mother was dying after being pierced in the abdomen by a tree branch which took his eye and left him with a scar in the shape of a six from his eyebrow down his left cheek). After that, I never mention what date the creepy shit happens (like the centipede crawling down someone's throat while they slept and stinging them from the inside after they tried to molest him).
Hey! Trick or treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat!
Two days to the start.
(And three weeks after that for entries.)
Well, I won’t be in it right at the beginning, but I’ll get there soon.
My next possible story, the one I had intended to finish before the other two, is getting complicated.
Unusually I've had to go back several times in the draft to alter plot details to make subsequent events possible. Usually I start to write a story knowing the ending and the initial premise AND the outline of developments from start to the known ending.
This one? I'm having to alter the time line, the seasons, and details of the characters after I had already written that part of the plot.
The editing at the end will have to be meticulous if I'm going to avoid inconsistencies.
