Do submissions HAVE TO HAVE sex in them?

Click the link below and read Safety Net.

Then tell me, was there sex in the story or no.

I liked it! And, if it had to go to court, the case would be dismissed

That's what I noticed, too. I thought NON-Lit authors couldn't promote their off-site work.

I was originally told by fellow forum members that it didn't matter. After I made an unknowingly errant post (way back when) I was spanked when I broke the rule against self promoting. Consequently I do not promote my off-site work except as a static link in my profile to my professional Bio page (which IS allowed).

Now to the essential bits:

I have a story in the works which I just got back from my volunteer editor. I am working on it and will probably submit it to Laurel sometime in the next week or 2 depending on the day job. So, while I am not currently a "Lit author", I am fully intending to contribute to the site.

Unless I'm not welcome here.

You're welcome here. Even if you find yourself socially out-of-step with the crowd on the forum, the story site is completely different. Your work is welcome there as long as it falls within Laurel's guidelines.

For what it's worth, there are no rules saying that every story must contain sex. That's an easy answer to your original question.

Readers in some categories accept stories with no sex without blinking. Your story is likely to get a lot of its early reads off the "New" list, so even if you post your story in those categories the lack of sex is likely to get you a significant number of low votes.

Having a really good story probably helps fend off some of the low votes.

Oh, you're welcome :rose::rose::rose::rose: - the more the merrier.

Actually, it's not. Laurel removed your link.

Yep, and that particular page of my profile isn't accessible any longer.

Thank you so much for making me feel so welcome.

Don't be put off. It is an intermittent problem with non-LIT authors plugging their off-site work here without contributing to LIT. Go ahead and submit your story and then see...

And really, we are a welcoming bunch here, just hang around and put your stuff up on LIT and see. Don't be put off by a slightly inauspicious start. You should've been here for mine and my first writing competition entry (Chloe blushes at the memory  )

As a newbie, I find the question a good one.

The way I figure it, porn and erotica are basically the same thing, though when I think "porn" it's bjs, anal, gang-bangs, gonzo and semen all over the place. When I think "erotica" I think of wealthy socialites with riding crops and stilettos with either classical in the background or some pretentious industrial-goth music—as opposed to non-pretentious industrial (such as Miinistry's cover of Lay Lady Lay or Ministry - Test).

At the risk of it sounding like a plug, two stories I've been working on for a while I have here in the form of Story Idea threads:
It is a place where women rule.
CMNF club

I intend to chop them up into parts. Could the different parts go into varying categories, including Nonerotic?

Where would one put:

1. what I figure is explicit sex:
e.g. "She licked the last gram of semen off of his penis while it was still somewhat erect."

2. what I figure is implied sex/references to sex:
e.g. "They expressed their desire for each other." or "They had sex a while ago in the garden."

3. what I figure is no sex:
e.g. "The two nude buxom lesbians meet, gave each other perfunctory kisses, and continued walking in opposite directions."

I also intend to make good use of tags as that's how I generally look for stories here.

Tags I'm considering for such:

no sex
nosex
no-sex
none-sexual
non-erotic
nonerotic
description
intro
introduction
mild sexual
mild sexual activity
verbose
some might find verbose
no plot
not much of a plot

and the like

All my story submissions have been part of a longer narrative in the Novels/Novellas category. All so far have had at least some sexual content, some only a small amount. There does not seem to be much difference in views or ratings based on the amount of sex featured. I am currently awaiting publication of the only chapter with no overt sexual content, so we'll see how that goes.

Good luck.

I've been hanging around actively posting on the board for nearly a year and a half. In the course of that time I've seen the easy going attitude of the form degrade with backbiting and backstabbing until this forum is not much fun any longer.

It's almost like everyone is afraid that someone else is going to do them wrong so they stab first, or make excuses for others who do so out of malice or some other unfathomable reason. I'm tired of being endlessly stabbed. I want to have a place where I can write and post my thoughts without worrying that someone will find my avatar offensive. or something equally as stupid like asking whether I'm "a Lit Author or not".

FWIW, I wrote my latest with the intention of submitting it here. I did my part and submitted it this morning, after a late night doing the formatting and ensuring the editing was done. It's still in the "draft" stage and hasn't even made it to "pending" yet. We'll have to wait and see what Laurel says about it.

Hey, great. If it's like mine it'll be a day or three before it gets processed. The best of luck. And ..... back to my aliens....

Getting it out of "Draft" and into "Pending" is your job, not Laurel's. You have to open up the story in the "Draft" list, make sure the entries are all complete, and go to the bottom and press the button to submit the story.

One of these days I'll have to take a serious look at that new interface

Ahh, not very intuitive for me.

Pending now, thanks.
