I stand corrected 'free market'. Is your whole argument based on a spelling error. The Military, while protecting our country, is the one ultimate constitutional responsibility of the federal government. Yes there is free market capitalism with the military, the military pays wages to it's soldiers, buy's equipment from manufacturers and soldiers spend back into the economy. Wall Street payed back every penny of TARP with interest. We made money on the banks. Highways are also free market ventures. State and federal bureaucracies contract companies that hire employees who spend back into the economy, contractors buy equipment and materials from other businesses and on and on and on. Today was your lucky day!!!!!, you got schooled on capitalism and Dawn the "alt man's racist" whatever the hell that is, gave you a class on the current tax structure. Hasn't had one in years. Sometime in the mid 80's, maybe early 90's it was replace with what we have now.

"redistribute it fairly" You know in China and Cuba, etc. they do that, well almost. There everyone gives most of their income to the leaders who all live like kings. In Cuba it is $50 a month regardless of your job, the state (Castro) owns everything including the clothes on your back. They have ration cards and tell you what you can eat and how much. education is brain washing not anything on enlightenment and knowledge, just like our public schools and colleges are now. You can be arrested for anything and everyone spies on everyone including family. All is fair as far as the leaders are concerned. And oh yes they too have walls, to keep people in like a prison. Remember it was the socialist and communists who created the countries that have so many people trying to come here illegal. As soon as the Nazi Socialist Terrorist Party take control all those people will be going the other way again along with the rest of us.

As long as we continue to elect lawyers in both parties instead of business people who know how to run a country we are going to be in the same boat as all the socialist counties are. (Have you ever heard of the Clinton's or Soros' or any other fat cats of the Dumbacrats redistribution of their wealth? When you do please let us know.

Several on here have made good comments on fair taxes. Remember you have to have a middle class and a business class and companies with jobs if you want people to pay taxes of any kind. Once we have a communists system our dollar will be worth the same as a Russia ruble. Ask any country including a communists county if they would rather have dollars or rubles.

Tweeting is free speech. Holding GM accountable for closing one of it's factories was an initiative to save jobs. Didn't Obama get involve with clean energy initiatives like Solyndra and others. In many cases they defaulted on their loans and left americans holding the bag.

There is a misconception, cynically exploited by those promoting socialism, that anything done by government is "socialism." The frauds who push this lie point to such things as road building, sewers, the military, education, etc., and claim they are "socialism." The ridiculousness of that assertion is easily demonstrated. Classical Rome built roads, provided sewer and water, had a first-class military, and held public seminars. So, by the logic people like phrodeau espouse, even the Roman Empire was a socialist state!

Getting back to reality, there are certain traditional roles of government that have nothing to do with socialism. These tend to include national defense; civil safety (i.e., police and fire fighting); and public health (sewer and water, garbage collection, etc.). Education has become one of these, but experience is beginning to show that is better served by the private sector. Likewise, even nearly universally employed resources like electricity and natural gas have been better served by privately held utilities.

The significant thing about the traditional roles of government is that they can be provided without government taking significant roles of people's lives or particularly limiting their freedom. One of the problems with socialism is that the areas of people's lives it starts to "serve," like healthcare, childcare, retirement, employment, etc., give government the excuse, and eventually the financial need, to make life decisions for its citizens.
