The Official Authors' Hangout Halloween Contest Thread 2017

I was stalled on two longer ones but I managed to finish the first draft of a shortish one today.

Now for the editing. :(

I should have one in for Halloween. It didn't start that way, but I think it will end up as my first Romance submission on LitE.

And watch out for mayhem when they hatch...

Ohhhh in this one they never do hatch. That's left hanging.... but the sex as the eggs are implanted .... well, human - alien parasitic wasp inter species sex can be rather hot but let's just say if my partner goes buzzzzzzz in the middle of the night I'm going to be levitating ....

And screaming... I'm scaring myself with this one. lol

I just noticed the contest and I'm already working on something I think will fit, thank goodness for weird fetishes!

I've just submitted the short one. During the edit the characters were demanding that it became a long story so I ended it.

Now to get back to the other two long stories...

Submissions must have a Halloween theme: costumes, scary situations, haunted houses, ghosts, supernatural, trick-or-treating, etc. Be creative! Please don't just submit a normal story with everyone in cosplay. That would not be in the spirit of the contest, and readers (aka voters) would probably punish you for your trickiness.

So, I'm not sure if my story fits or not. It is supernatural, and said supernatural being is being scary to some degree, but it doesn't scream Halloween. Should I go with it anyway?

Sure, that should be enough.

It falls within the rules. To wit; Supernatural + Scary.

If it really bugs you, just change the setting to Allhallowtide.

Allhallowtide is the watered down, cleaned up, Christianized version of Samhain. It spans three days beginning with All Hallow's Evening (October 31st) and is a feast commemorating the dead including specifically Saints and Martyrs. The Roman Catholic church figured they would have better luck converting the heathen pagans (i.e., Celts) if they kept at least some of the holidays in the calendar. By more ancient traditions, Samhain is one of the four major feasts and, arguably, the time of year when the barriers between this world and the next are at their thinnest, allowing a greater influx of Aos Si to cross into the mortal realm. (Aos Si meaning "fairies", "spirits", and pretty much any supernatural beings.) So, by ancient traditions, the scariest shit happens then.

BUT~ frankly, my personal opinion (worth probably a little less than you paid for it), if you went with supernatural and scary, I don't see how that isn't much more in the spirit of Halloween than slutty costumes (unless they are the first few victims) regardless of when it happens.

With the kids coming day after tomorrow for an extended visit, I doubt I'll get my own entry done in time. (And yeah, it's probably weird that I feel weird about writing pornotica while they're here since they are in their 40s.) But, about the only mention I made of Oct. 31st is that was the day the first person protag was born (by C-section as his mother was dying after being pierced in the abdomen by a tree branch which took his eye and left him with a scar in the shape of a six from his eyebrow down his left cheek). After that, I never mention what date the creepy shit happens (like the centipede crawling down someone's throat while they slept and stinging them from the inside after they tried to molest him).

Hey! Trick or treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat!

I might move it to happening in October but thanks! You've made me feel a bit better about it! :)

I'm intrigued by your story, please write it.

Inspiration took its sweet time, but it struck this afternoon while I was on my way back from Guitar Center. We'll see how soon I can get it done.

I've just hit the submit button for entry #2.

Now to get back to the story I had intended to write for Halloween 2017.

I've decided to submit a story I wrote earlier this year that fits into the contest, but is decidedly lacking in sex. We'll see how that works out.

I have another story I'm working on, that is also rather lacking in sex. I'd like to submit it but we'll see if I can get it ready in time. I doubt I will be able to do so.

Well, I won’t be in it right at the beginning, but I’ll get there soon.

My entry should end up at around 35 hours from conception to birth to submission. That’s new for me. We'll see what it means in terms of the readers. I’m not terribly hopeful, but it’ll end up as a fun ride.

Time travel content! That’ll be another first for me.

Working away on mine. 11k words and 2 or 3k of alien sex and gore to go. Should get it in this week. It's been a lot of fun, it's very experimental for me and not at all what I usually write. Have to see what readers think of it. I sure sending shivers down my own spine.

I've got one ready to go, just out to a friend for a final read through. Bit of a murder mystery about a therapist who died in a car accident as a child, was brought back and could hear ghostly voices ever since then. The other one I'm working on is about a witch who summons her ex-boyfriend, who s a demon, for help in finding her sister who has disappeared. Just not real confident I can get it done in time.

Adore the kids. Glad I got to see them. Too exhausted to try to write.

Maybe after two or three days resting I'll get back to my Halloweenie. But, the way I feel today, I'm thinking I may hibernate until time to work on my Turkey Tale.

Super glad to see the ones posted already, though! And hopefully more of you will give me a little treat. Or a trick. I'm easy.

My next possible story, the one I had intended to finish before the other two, is getting complicated.

Unusually I've had to go back several times in the draft to alter plot details to make subsequent events possible. Usually I start to write a story knowing the ending and the initial premise AND the outline of developments from start to the known ending.

This one? I'm having to alter the time line, the seasons, and details of the characters after I had already written that part of the plot.

The editing at the end will have to be meticulous if I'm going to avoid inconsistencies.

Ohhhhhh you're on your third and I'm still working on #1  - the alien Halloween Party is a bit more complex that I thought. I mean, the research I need to do on alien sex organs? Jeepers!

My significant other is reading over my shoulder and going "you are SOOOOOO weird sometimes, Chloe" LOL. He ain't role playing this one rotflmao

Ogg - I'd love to see how many you could get in if you REALLY went for it
