This whole free healthcare shit is ridiculous. It's not free. You work, you pay into it. So what if unemployed people reap the benefits? Old people will benefit more than anyone. Seems like a no brainer to anyone with compassion.

Healthcare SHOULD be free for everyone or not free for anyone. It's that simple. Your life should not carry a price. The U.S. is such a screwed up country in our healthcare system that we are one of the few countries in the west (if not the only one) who still doesn't have a universal healthcare system. *Shakes head* I'm a proud liberal, but I'm glad John McCain is resisting the Republicans to get this Trumpcare in the door.

At least you got the part about it not being free right.

The point is, that is my money being taken from me. It's not being used to make or repair roads, it's not being used to support national parks, it's not being used to keep the airports open and prevent planes from crashing into one another.

It has nothing to do with compassion. It's about the government taking money I've earned and literally handing it over to people who a) don't want to work, b) refuse to work, or c) who do not have to change their lifestyle of smoking, drinking, drug use and/or obesity.

Here's a question: how much money have you personally handed over to someone who has a medical bill? Not to a charity, not to a foundation, not Gofundme or anything of the sort. Physically handing over a wad of cash or check or something similar.

If you haven't done that yourself you shouldn't expect other people to be forced to do so.

As a side note, since that money is being taken from me, it's money I've lost. I can never get that money back. It can't be used for something I want and/or need such as a new car, a computer, food, housing or clothing. It's gone. By taking that money from me, it depresses the economy since I'm not spending it. And no, the health insurance companies are not going to spend it for me.

If the idea is to have a healthy population and you think it's acceptable for the government to force people to hand over their money for no reason, then let's do it right.

The government will mandate every obese person either lose weight on their own or undergo stomach banding. It's a known medical fact obesity is a huge detriment to ones health. Diabetes, and the multitude of ills it brings, high blood pressure and liver failure are just a few of the issues. How much does all that cost us every year? How many people die every year from diabetes-related afflictions?

Next. All smoking and vaping is banned. The health effects of both are well known and the costs associated with both keep climbing.

Execute all drug dealers. With all the whining about heroin deaths and the well known dangers of all the other illegal drugs, getting rid of the supply will be a good first step.

Everyone who leaves a bar, nightclub or any place which serves alcohol will have to undergo a breathalyzer test to make sure they're not driving home drunk. That will cut down on both the people themselves dying or, more likely, being injured and running up huge medical bills which the rest of us will have to pay for, as well as the killing and maiming of those around them.

To make sure we have a healthy population everyone will have to submit to a twice yearly medical exam to make sure they're eating right and exercising. Anyone found to not have a pre-existing medical condition and fails either test gets fined.

How's that for a start? That will get us to a healthy population in no time. What's that? Government being too intrusive? Too bad. You want a healthy population, then let's do it right. None of this death by a thousand cuts by bleeding people over decades, get to the point.

Do any of those things happen in any countries with centralised health care?
It's just plain stupid.

Centralised contracts means greater purchasing power therefore cheaper drugs, other supplies & services. Good Republican principles.

It works with education, emergency services etc. You don't worry about the obese unemployed wearing out the roads that you paid for, and it's a myth that the unemployed don't pay taxes. Anyone who uses a vehicle or purchases anything pays taxes (even by supporting the employment of others who pay).

Heck there's nothing to stop you from continuing to buy insurance if you wish. There's plenty of private health care in the UK; you can bet that the Queen doesn't sit in the line at the local GP surgery.
