OOC: The Dead Don't Swim (closed)

Introduction

The Zombie Plague:
  • After spreading first across Africa and Southeast Asia, the hemorrhagic fever-like disease reached America in early July 2024.
  • The virus infects 90% of those exposed to it.
  • The disease eats through the human body, destroying vital organs and causing madness. It pushed them to the brink of death.
  • 50% of those infected will die within just days.
  • 10% of those infected will make just enough of a recovery to live out their remaining days in pain and agony.
  • The remaining 40% of those infected will suddenly come back to full animation as animalistic, cannibalistic flesh eating zombies.
  • They are human in only one aspect: they can be harmed and killed just as a healthy human could be.

The Rand Family Summer Reunion:
  • For more than 100 years, the Rand Family held a reunion on Goose Island in the middle of the Willamette River, midway between Corvallis and Salem.
  • The football shaped island is surrounded by 150 yards of quickly flowing river.
  • It includes just under 8 acres of wild growing forest that surrounded a 2 acre, groomed park-like recreation area.
  • The get-together had always been scheduled for the 3rd weekend of August to allow one last family event before the children returned to school and the adults dove into the harvest of the family's 2,000 acres of field crops, fruit trees, and nut groves.
  • But in 2024, the Rand Family patriarch, Robert Rand, pushed the reunion forward in anticipation of the plague.

The Initial Status of Goose Island:
  • Exactly 100 people reached Goose Island before the Plague reached the area and caused Robert Rand to discontinue transport from the mainland.
  • They included:
    • 46 from the Rand bloodline, including Robert, 4 of his siblings, 5 of his cousins, and their respective children and grandchildren.
    • 54 other included spouses, step-relatives, and other friends, associates, and miscellaneous guests.
  • Many of the refugees brought supplies with them; and Robert had food and other supplies delivered by several big box stores.
  • 180 days of food and other supplies were initially available.
  • Robert was sure the Government and medical professionals would develop a vaccine by then and immunize the citizenry.
