Chris parked his green L. L. Bean Edition Outback outside the pet store. Still silently deep in their own thoughts and, he suspected, anticipations, Laurie and Nancy followed him inside. He wondered if it surprised either of them when he headed directly to the dog collar department.
Off to one side he spotted a display for personalized leather collars. Two stacked for inspection, one pink, one black, caught his eye.
Identical but for color, each leather collar sported three rows of small studs and a steel plate engraved with the manufacturer's name, but he assumed....
"May I help you find something?"
He looked up to discover a cute and petite blonde store clerk, not more than twenty years old, facing him. She stood just next to Nancy.
"Please," Chris smiled warmly. "I assume these collars can be personalized to whatever name we need? Do you have them in a size that will fit..."
He pointed to Nancy.
"...her?"
