For Catholics, it's before, I think. Nuns with rulers and priests with paddles. Protestants, we got dunked (past tense, since I'm not a Christian anymore). Who needs a beating when they can half-drown you and call it "baptism"?

There's a reason why the Bible is a history and a mystery.
Did you think it was going to be laid out for you in obvious detail? Then be a Muslim.
Of course the Bible will appear contradictory, and a bunch of other stuff that do not make any sense on the surface. It's for the right eyes. And lest you follow the path of Christ, you'll never tune yours - and your brains - to see the revelations in it.

Actually, I'm a pagan. And frankly, I don't see where any of the Abrahamic religions make sense. A sense of "mystery" isn't going to make me turn off my brain. I'm not impressed by such platitudes. I'm impressed by empirical data, by evidence, by facts, etc.

There is a far simpler explanation for why the Bible contradicts itself: it was written by men and lumped together on the orders of men, bishops and such, particularly under the guidance of the Roman Emperor. It was also written by men who believed that the Earth was flat and that the Earth was the center of the Cosmos. Need I say more?

I was going through a rough spot. Decided I was going to try to write a book for Harlequin Love Inspired series to occupy myself. .( LOVE INSPIRED: You believe hearts can heal. Love Inspired stories show that faith, forgiveness and hope have the power to lift spirits and change lives—always)
When I Googled how to write a romance literotica.com came up. I got to reading and got a big education.
Joined the boards out of curiosity. Loneliness and curiosity do not go well together. Not proud of how I acted. Finally, I grew up. I looked at other websites that carry on similar debates as this thread and they are just not the same. Just plain abuse from both sides. No new information. I also like lit in that the response to a thread is usually guick. There is usually someone on that I know of to post with. I even admit to wanting to see how people on the boards view current events.

The mystery is all in your head, I think. Much like that whole "trinity" bs. Methinks that you're a modern-day Gnostic, full of self-confirming circular logic that only blocks out all evidence to the contrary. But that's your life. I prefer to follow a different path.

I am curious as to what makes you say gnostics have this circular logic thingy and how evidence gets blocked out. I think it is your determination given your use of pure logic to take on things.

Depends on if you as Matthew or Luke, it seems. Not counting the Holy Ghost. Not sure who his/its father is supposed to be. And then, if you ask the Mormons, it's whoever Elohim's father is. Because at least the Mormons have the decency to scotch the whole "virgin birth" bullshit.

Thank you for sharing that. I debate in several places. Yes, people can be very vicious sometimes, especially when they hear the gospel. It's interesting how much anger arises in so many who don't believe it. That's actually evidence that it's true. The Bible says that the light offends the dark.

They believe that a seventeenth century English translation is the authoritative source and discount the authority of the Masoretic Hebrew, The Septuagent (2nd century BC) Origens Greek (circa 180 AD) and Jeromes 4th century Latin. The numerous pre-canoniacal Papyri found in the last 150 years are conveniently ignored as are the Qumran sources and Nag Hammadi.
A dislike of insulting people will prevent my further comment on xfrodo's claims; however, it is worth noting that fundamentalists are by objective measurement the most poorly educated people in the USA.
Mebbe we should pray for their enlightenment.
