Obama Makes 'No Apologies' For Fighting ISIS Within 'American Values'

Stressing that his administration has "been at this for a long time," President Obama launched a forceful defense of his strategy against ISIS in a year-end interview with NPR. He makes "no apologies," he said, for wanting to target terror groups "appropriately and in a way that is consistent with American values."

Speaking with Steve Inskeep, host of Morning Edition, Obama also urged Americans to "keep things in perspective" when it comes to ISIS, though he says he understands "why people are worried."

"This is not an organization that can destroy the United States," he said, nor is it a "huge industrial power" that poses great risks to the U.S. "institutionally or in a systemic way. But they can hurt us, and they can hurt our people and our families."

Here's how he explained why remembering "who we are" will lead to ISIS's defeat:

Obama takes spin on Jerry Seinfeld's 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee'

December 21, 2015, 03:30 pm

By Jordan Fabian

Comedy fans will get a Festivus treat when President Obama appears on Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" Web series next week.

Obama and the comedy star taped an episode on the South Lawn of the White House on Dec. 7. Seinfeld teased his special guest's appearance at the tail end of a trailer promoting the show's new season.

In the clip, the comedian pulls up in front of the South Portico in a 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe. A phone rings, and Obama's voice comes on the line.

“White House.”

“Yes, may I speak with the president please?” Seinfeld asks.

“Speaking,” the president replies, prompting Seinfeld to chuckle.

A second promo shows the duo driving around White House grounds in the muscle car.

Seinfeld typically invites other comedians to appear on the show. The trailer shows him grabbing coffee with big-name comics such as Will Ferrell, Steve Martin and Gary Shandling.

"Growing up in the '60s my kid dream was always to be an astronaut — doing a comedy show with President Obama in and around the White House felt like going into space," Seinfeld said of his presidential interview, which will appear online Dec. 30.

Obama has increasingly turned to nontraditional formats for interviews in recent years.

Why do they keep praising the growth in the stock market when it only benefits the people they feel are the source of all our problems. They have that double standard. Rich people are evil, but we'll take credit for making them rich.

Because nobody thinks that they are the source of all our problems. Rich people are not evil, nobody thinks that, nobody even actually says that. And the stock market doesn't only benefit them, it disproportionatly benefits them and we should work on that but they are not the only people benefiting.

I'm sorry, this does not support your argument. Yes the rich did just fine, no that's not okay. That doesn't make them evil, it makes the system in need of tweaking.

The system does need tweaking. Corporate welfare has to stop. Greed has tobe addressed. Income disparity is absolutely affecting the American standard of living.

Except corporate welfare is a nebulous term and simply stopping it would not be wise. Greed cannot be addressed so there is no point. Income disparity is effecting the American standard of living. . .I'd love evidence to support that. Not that it's a problem but what effect you believe it's having precisely.

You seem to forget he was the cause of the opposite of everything he achieved, lol. Truth isn't like a donut, half isn't better than none.

Speaking of halves, you seem to forget that if he was even half as bad as people were screaming about, President Romney would be up there lobbing nukes over Damascus right now. The first two years of his first term, Obama was weaker than cellophane in a pizza oven. Easy pickings. What happened with that?

Tell us of these "opposites" that should've burned his pinfeathers down to earth right then and there and we'll just keep posting in a "good" thread the evidence on why his long games were ultimately better than the Panthers' season. ;)

I don't follow football. People are more comfortable with the evil they know and don't like trading it in for the unknown. I didn't vote for Romney and I would never vote for him because he is a mormon. I think a lot of people didn't trust him which is why he didn't win.

Glad you think it's a game, you seem to think just like he does.

You forget that "game" is a much-utilized metaphorical term, especially by economists and political pundits. Obama has long been better at long-term strategy (i.e., his "long game") than his opponents ever realized or would admit.

Seriously? What the fuck. Mormons are straight crazy but if there was ever a religion to fear in the White House it's a Catholic and JFK. . .got murdered so maybe there is somethign to that.

Not sure I agree, I think he lucked into a lot of stuff. Not saying the man doesn't clearly play chess ten moves in advance but yeah not sure I buy that.

Hey, don't give me too much credit, there. I only wish I thought like my President does. I'd be in a better place with better bank while wearing a better collection of suits and eating at Michelin-starred restaurants five times a week instead of once every six months! :D

Nah. Luck is a fool's errand when you're on that level of the food chain. And you don't stay there on luck. Even Dubya had other people better than him running shit in the background to cover his deficiencies rather than steam the engines of his two-term fortunes on luck. Obama definitely learned shit over the course of his terms that he didn't know before, but his long game victories weren't luck, that shit was plan and contingency.

Luck would be not having multiple Katrinas demolishing coastal American cities or deep-sea oil rigs exploding and spilling crude into the ecosystem within our borders every year.
