The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

Yikes! I missed starting the discussion for Our February 2014 BDSM BOTM is Evil At Heart by Chelsea Cain.

Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain 3/5 BDSM?

Did you like the book overall or not?

I liked this one better than book two but not as well as book one. I was really hoping Archie would have put his life together by now instead of hiding out in an insane asylum.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Well, it's all non consent so no. OTOH, there were activities that might be called BDSM normally such as suspension (by hooks!) and scarification, not to mention mind fucking.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I don't remember any sex scenes.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I felt like it was more of a thriller this time around and I read it really fast so it was a page turner.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

I liked that Archie is making progress in his fight to not be into his tormentor. There were some other characters and elements too.

What did you like the least?

Gretchen's character knows too much and does too much flawlessly.

How would you have changed the story?

IDK.

It is time to discuss our March 2014 BDSM BOTM, Naamah’s Curse by Jacqueline Carey.

Naamah's Curse by Jacqueline Carey

Did you like the book overall or not?

No, I didn't like it. I LOVED it! LOL

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

This wasn't a BDSM book really. There was sex, chains, punishments and so on, but it still wasn't BDSM.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

Most sex scenes bore me these days. They were alright.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Oh yeah! It was GREAT! I LOVED it.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Always!

What did you like best about this selection?

The intricate characters and story-lines. The idea that you can love many.

What did you like the least?

I hated the religious zealots and mean people.

How would you have changed the story?

I wouldn't have changed a thing.

You may want to consider putting "Bondage" by Patti Davis on your list. It's quite a bit older, and although it doesn't portray a "healthy" BDSM relationship, it does portray the type of relationship we find way too often within the lifestyle.

Also, I'm glad to see Graydancer and Annabel Joseph on your list. Those have both been in/around the BDSM community for a while and know what it's truly about.

Oh we did read that one and I really disliked it a great deal.

In the month of April, 2007 our selection was Bondage by Patti Davis.

Didn't much care for the Graydancer book either. The premise held a lot of promise but it didn't deliver what I had hoped - at all.

84.) May 2013 BDSM BOTM: Nawashi by Graydancer.

Of the three Annabel Joseph had the best. Our December 2013 BDSM BOTM, Firebird by Annabel Joseph.

I like your interest though we need NEW blood here! And some help!

Time to discuss, our April 2014 BDSM BOTM is Hit List by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes, I did.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

No. It wasn't a BDSM-y kind of book to my way of thinking

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

They didn't do much for me. I tend to roll my eyes and lightly skim over sex scenes that Hamilton writes now. The "fall of hair" the "I'm really into sex, aren't" message the "it's all related to magical powers and connections" thing, and the "he spilled me over the edge" get tiresome. Don't write them or find something new in sex to write about please.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I did. It seems that Laurell has worked through most of her interpersonal issues and can now write about violence and a bit more decent story lines rather than just the same sex scene over and over.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

There was more story, less sex. I always love seeing Edward in the story too.

What did you like the least?

I can't think of anything but the repetitive sex writing.

How would you have changed the story?

Perhaps more about other characters who just seem to be obstructions or backdrops to Anita?

Well crap on toast. I can find no where that we discussed 92.) Our January 2014 BDSM BOTM Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton.

I find I've been very remiss since I started my new full time job in January and I apologize. So I'm putting this one up for discussion too.

It would be great to have help and/or new blood here. Anyone up for it?

Meanwhile, Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton BDSM

Did you like the book overall or not?

I did, but not very much.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

No. Most sadists are shown as not caring about companions.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

One actually did something for me, the rest did not.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I would have liked more story and action that wasn't sex but yes..

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

I liked Anita doing what she needed too to keep her people safe through "love".

What did you like the least?

The constant sex with little changed in the effort of describing them.

How would you have changed the story?

I'd have paid more attention to characters, action and story than sex.

That's great! We need more participation!

We just finished, Our July 2014 BDSM BOTM is Beauty (Outtake) by Laurell K. Hamilton. Now it's time to discuss it.

Our next two books are:

Our August 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain

Our September 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kiss the Dead by by Laurell K. Hamilton

Any ideas you have for books or how to grow our group will be appreciated too!

Hi! I want to join the book club. What are we reading?

Alrighty!! I've got my paws on "Kill You Twice." I can't wait to get started.

What are we reading right now?

Our August 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain

What will be read next?

Our September 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kiss the Dead by by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Taking nominations for our November BDSM BOTM now.

It is time to start the discussion for Our August 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain.

Well Grechen is free again which makes me very angry. The twisted relationship goes on but we know more about her roots. I totally think Archie's neighbor is a Gretchenbot.

It's funny how this author can make me feel disgusted by a character yet I pull for them. Say in the case of Susan, smoking, dirt under nails, picking tempeh out of her teeth, sweating, geez. But I like her and pull for her.

Since no noms have been put up I will decide the November BDSM BOTM and it is: The Killer Wore Leather: A Mystery by Laura Antoniou. This kind of BDSM convention parody is a really fun and funny read. I like it better by far than anything I've read by her to date. Please join me in reading this book.

The discussions for

Our September 2014 BDSM BOTM is Kiss the Dead by by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Sorry to be so late guys. Nudge me next time I fail okay?

Kiss the Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton 4/5

I didn't want to read this one as I'm fed up with LKH. Still when I began, it pulled me in. At first she was on the job and it was blessedly free of sex. Still she ruminated too much on her relationships and that just got worse as the book went on.

I am glad that little bitch Asher was sent away for a while. Good on Anita and Jean Claude for doing that. I don't care how much you "love" someone and how sexy you find them, that destructive shit is not okay.

It was funny to me how okay Anita is now with sharing and poly because she didn't use to be.

Let Me Go by Chelsea Cain 4/5

For the first time since the first book in the series I was turned on by this book! The sex scenes were hawt for me. I love that non consent / consent vibe. Though I wish Archie would stop blaming himself for being human and manipulated.

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes, I did. I like Archie and the other regulars except of course Gretchen.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

No. It's non consensual but it hits a very strong fantasy vibe related to BDSM to me.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

They got me going for once!

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I did. I've come to see Archie, Susan and the rest as friends I root for.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes!

What did you like best about this selection?

The characters and story were both full out this time.

What did you like the least?

I am always irritated by Gretchen being so powerful and flawless but at least this time she helped Archie a good bit.

How would you have changed the story?

I would like to see Gretchen dead and gone, Archie truly healed and with Susan with both of them actually happy and functional.

Oh noes! It is past time to discuss the November 2014 BDSM BOTM,
The Killer Wore Leather: A Mystery by Laura Antoniou! Please remind me next time if I let one get past me fellow readers!

Here is what I thought about our selection:

The Killer Wore Leather by Laura Antoniou 3.75/5

Did you like the book overall or not?

I did. I've been to role playing conventions and this resonated for me, in part because of the setting in a kinky convention.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

For the most part, yes.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I don't remember a particular sex scene

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

I really enjoyed the different threads and the humor.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

The humor for sure.

What did you like the least?

I can't think of anything.

How would you have changed the story?

I might have tied up a few more threads unless there will be more books?

This is by far my fav Laura Antoniou book.
