My thanks, Felix, for the kind words, but the bulk of my background for Charles came from a sort of synthesis of different references on the character (in particular the description of his powers). If you're looking for a sample of my own writing, the biographical material is a better indicator, I think.

I think we need to address something very important right now though....perhaps a ground rule, "for the good of the roleplay"...

That being ACTIVITY.

What I want to talk about is, and ultimately it's through "Felix80's" approval, what is ACCEPTABLE versus what is UNACCEPTABLE in terms of that activity. Before "now", anything has gone and anything has went. Which may be okay. Let's be honest. We have BARELY started. All of the character profiles have just filtered in. ALMOST all of the IN GAME introductions have been made. The 'momentum' hasn't yet....picked up pace, although I'm willing to bet, it's upon the brink..........if we can just.....look to get it there.

But is it not important to talk about this? What's acceptable team? Do we want to just keep it 'casual' and not give a crapp-i-ty crap-crap-craaaaaap......post WHEN we want, how we want........maybe have "real life" [steal us away for SIX days*exaggeration*] and then come right back at it, and post again??? Is that okay? Or do we want to set a little guideline? To have to "check in" every so often? Maybe once every couple of days(at the least)? And if we can think ahead, look in the future.....if we can use that almighty "spider sense" and appreciate the REAL LIFE 'danger' that is coming our way.......to see that "ohhh, I'm going to be pulled away from the computer for four days, coming next week"....well...maybe I will let everyone know about that......AHEAD of time...so that they can prepare, and "my" character can be.......chilling at the mansion, or on a side mission, etc etc.

Does any of this make sense?

I think it's a better time to bring this up NOW and early on, rather than LATER and in the THICK of things......when people are EXPECTING that CAJUN to get to posting.....and the SLACK-ASS hasn't been on for five days straight!!! *smirk*

The reason I'm bringing this up, is because I CARE about this roleplay! Yes it's way early on. But I WANT for it to be awesome. I WANT for people to have fun. I WANT it to rock -- heh *``I WANT TO ROCK!!!``* -- And I think with some kind of a foundation, a guideline system...it'll can only help steer it toward success. I could be wrong in this. Totally. Am I?

I'm also glad you brought up the matter of activity, I'm going to be as active as I can over the next week but on the 19th I'm going on holiday for just under a month and won't be back till around about the 17th of August :/. I know it's a huge absence but it's kindof been sprung on me. I hope that you guys can keep it going during my absence so I can properly get involved when I get back XD. That ok with everyone?

There will be unpredictable times when I cannot post for uncertain periods. I will not always know when these are happening. I will post if I can.

Once a week is good, IC, twice is better. That's about all I can do.

Absences happen. This is a fun thing we do on the side, not nearly as important as jobs and family. We'll work around absences.

Unless it's something "new" to him -- something he's not used to seeing -- and thus, that's sorta caught his eye...naturally..........in which case, I can understand. I just want to make sure you know what's going on "out of character". Feel free to play along in character however you need to though. But I don't think the Cajun is returning to the car.....

Phone call. Text message. Email. Etc. Just to let you know. So Gambit's butt is 'covered', and Charles isn't left in the dark....

There must be other faculty at the school, but so far no one is named. I don't recall ever seeing any other teachers present in any back issue of the comic book, though, so maybe Charles does teach all of the classes?

Charles Xavier is not known, at least to the public, to be a mutant. The possibility that he is must have occurred to most of his students, but then again none of them have ever seen him using any sort of mutant power. And yes, this means that Charles has yet to use his mindspeech to communicate with any of you.

Charles is the only teacher. Right now Xavier's only has four full time students:

Jubilee
Doug
Kitty
Kurt

Lorna or one of the others might help out as a TA. That's up to you guys. The others are over 18 and out of high school. Perhaps they're doing some classwork at Columbia, Xavier has connections there.

To the best of my knowledge, the only students who have ever been at Xavier's School are the ones who are there now. This is the first class of X-Men, I've made that clear from the first post.

I was hoping no one else would mention it, so I could spring it on you all later as a major surprise. If the girl Gambit spent the night with wasn't a student at Xavier's then who was she? How did she know about the school? Why did she send Gambit there? MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, I have plans for you Cajun. You wanted to be a player in the Mutant Cold War, and you got your wish.

I envision the Danger Room at this point to be very similar to the Danger Room during the first run of the X-Men, from the 60's. It is also much like the training in X-Men First Class. Xavier designs and builds individual tests and equipment to help his students master their powers, assuming Tcost is good with that. We haven't discussed it, and it's really his call as he is playing Xavier.

I've given him a certain amount of money to play with; he can do pretty much whatever he wants with it. With that money he can buy/build a jet, put together changes to the grounds, research technology, etc.

Skills

Skills. While most people are skilled in combat, weaponry, manual labor, Alison is skilled in...singing? Music is her passion, and she expresses herself through it by singing and dancing. If there's anything besides music that she was good at, maybe it's working out. She loves running, and staying fit. She does not count the powers she possesses as a skill.

Powers/Abilities

Alison can convert sound vibrations into various forms of light. She can manipulate most sounds, but she prefers utilizing the sound of music. Music is in her heart and soul, and she finds the sound of music much easier to control her powers.

Dazzler's light will radiate from her body in all directions, producing regular flashes of white light. By conscious control over the light she produces, she can control its direction, frequency, color, intensity, and duration. Able to produce numerous effects, she can create simple patterns out of rays of light, or combinations of patterns, which can produce trance-like effects in her targets. One more than one occasion upon getting carried away, her light can reach several thousand watts of power, which can temporarily blind people with its brilliance.

The blonde's polarizing eyes cannot be blinded or dazzled by the light she creates, or anyone else. With effort, she has tried to create hologram of people and other three-dimensional beings and objects. She's even tried to use light energy to generate flight. However, her attempts have been unsuccessful, and often her efforts leave her energy exhausted and drained.

She has little control of the light she creates, but she's never had the drive to get better. Her powers already frighten her, and that fear only increases as she gets better and more powerful.


Brief Background

Carter and Katherine Blaire, married three years, created what would be their only child, Alison Baire. But when Alison was young, her mother abandoned her and her father. Growing up without a mother was always hard, but what made things worse was her father's over-protectiveness. She was required not just to go the best of school, but excel in them. Carter Blaire wanted his little girl to grow up and join the family business. To be a lawyer.

But the harder her father pushed, the more Claire pushed right back. She knew in her heart that she wasn't meant to be a lawyer. Sometimes, she'd lock herself in her room and just escape. And what helped her escape? Music. Nothing put her to peace more than listening to music, the headphones crammed in her ear and the music blaring. Of course, what gave her peace, pissed off her father. But it wasn't just music; she found that she was good at singing, too. Very good.

An aspiring singer, she volunteered to perform at her high school dance when her light-generating abilities first appeared. Everyone at the dance assumed it was a technologically-generated special effect, and Alison went with it. But inside, she didn't know whether to be freaked out, or thrilled. To this day, she doesn't tell anyone what she can do. She worries that it will push people away, and she already has so few friends. Since she has such a huge secret to hide, her bright, positive attitude deflects what's really going on inside.

Currently, at age 24, Alison is still aspiring to be a singer. A dream she refuses to give up on. She sings at a local club and a few bars, trying to get herself out there, but that doesn't always pay the bills. So, recently, she started moonlighting at a strip club, putting her 'performing' skills to another kind of use.

A few years ago, Alison was contacted by Charles Xavier. He made promises about being able to help teach and mentor her, and he knew things about her that no one else did. Overwhelmed and scared, Alison turned down his offer to visit his school for the 'gifted'. Even if the thought of being able to control her powers, and possibly meet more people like her still haunts and tempts her thoughts every day.

Alison must have known enough to refer Gambit to the Professor, so at worst she must be aware that he is running the school, and probably at least suspects the mutant angle.

I'm game with Lorna as a T.A.

I propose that as things stand, Lorna already is a T.A., and that her role at the Academy may be about to change further, but that's for in character plot development; Charles will want to speak to Lorna, and I guess that she and Gambit, and maybe Kurt as well, are already headed toward his office.

Siryn could be a T.A. too at this point, if the player is agreeable to that idea?

Charles might own a private plane, maybe even a small Lear jet, but I don't think that he realizes yet that he might need a pair of Blackbirds. That purchase would strain even his budget.

I put in a paragraph about Charles, but will wait until we discuss further to either change or add to it.
