A Tournament in Westeros OOC and signups

Comic Con

The convention doesn't begin until the day after tomorrow, but the people are already here. I said hello to Princess Leia while in line at the Subway this afternoon. That was pretty cool -- although did Leia have a split in her skirt all the way up to the hip? Surely I couldn't have missed that in the movie!

I should be able to catch the GoT panel on Friday. Kit Harrington and Lena Heady are out, but Rose Leslie has been added. I'll put up a report, if you like, although I'm sure that it will go up online pretty quickly.

Nice nice well ladies and gents here is the In Character Thread so feel free to start posting. Feel free to flush out things to properly give your character a good intro post.

IC Thread.

Name: Nekka

House: None

Appearance – Picture

Vices and Virtues – Nekka has a twisted sense of honor she rarely feels the need to vocalize. She will not strike a child or women who cannot defend themselves. She will also not attack a clearly unarmed foe, but that does mean she won’t subdue or threaten them.
She still has a lot of the Braavo attitude in her and rarely backs down from a challenge, perceived or otherwise. She is cocky about her fight ability and tends to underestimate many of the heavily armored and armed opponents she finds in Westeros. She also enjoys to speed her gold quickly and can be somewhat of a lush when she gets started.

Gear- While Nekka owns little in the form of specific gear, her attire is always expensive and flashy. She had numerous sets of revealing clothing she wears while in town and her normal attire is usually form fitting and shows a lot of skin. Besides clothes and jewelry her only other notable piece of gear is her most prized possession, her sword, a blade of Valyrian steel.
*
Furysong was the name she gave it, for the sound it made as the curved blade cut through the air as she fought. The blade itself was larger than the slender blades her fighting style typically used, though due to its unique composition Nekka swung it as easily as a dagger.
She won her prize off the corpse of a well renowned Lysene sellsword and pirate in a desperate and pitched battle in the middle of the narrow sea. She barely survived the encounter though her prowess in battle proved superior even to such a well armed and skilled adversary.
*
Short history and bio – Nekka was born and raised in Braavos and took up the sword and the fighting style of the Water Dance at a young age. She excelled at the lifestyle of a bravos and was soon winning duels to more experienced and skilled men repeatedly. Her skill at arms came to the attention of one of the recruiters of a small but growing free company called The Gharls or Gharl’s Company, after their commander Gharl the Cleaver. Nekke readily joined the small group to test her skill against the best the Free Cities had to offer. Her skill in battle only grew as the free company’s swords increased. Nekke quickly became one of Gharl’s lieutenants and was set with the task of further recruitment on the other side of the narrow sea. With a group of men she set forth for King’s Landing and arrived shortly before the tourney. There she hopes to find someone worthy to join the company’s ranks.

What do you think about Knights - As a whole they have little skill and less discipline. Though she has little respect for any person who hides behind armor and shields.

What do you think of Lords/Ladies - They are afforded the proper respect for the most part unless the prove to be lacking the strength and conviction to hold their titles.

What do you think of the common folk - They are necessary and she holds no ill will towards those that can’t find a greater path in life.

damn i wanted my character to have a Valyrian steel blade but i really wanted to keep with the story of the books and the the books Tywin Lannister said the Lannister family did not own any Valyrian Steel weapons :(

Well that is a sign of how much sludge is in my brain right now that i post in the wrong thread. Anyhow planning to get a post up in a bit. Gotta star wars thread on another site with ravenous players harking at me haha.

Seriously?

I have not found that to be true.

Paint yourself green and dress up as an Orion, Star Trek fans treat you like a piece of meat.

Dress up as Princess Leia in a metal bikini and Star Wars fans treat you like the Eighth Wonder of the World. Star Trek - fans still treating you like a piece of meat.

hehe well perhaps viciousness in different areas. I definitely share your consensus about Star Wars fans and cosplayers. Haven't really had much experience with trekkies in that regard.

But yeah I went to Celebration in florida 2 years ago and im going again this year and yeah. Dress like princess leia or any of the other babes from star wars we treat you right :p. I was more commenting on their RPing tenacity hehe.

On the cosplay front however I might have to have you show my your data to make the best educated opinion on the matter : p

Alright on thread news I will be looking to post before the hour is up. Finally finished a crap ton of work work so just slowly unwinding atm.

For what it's worth, I've been a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars for most of my life. And part of organized fandom at that. It could differ by generation, but I've never seen a difference between the two fandoms in regard to their treatment of women.

I should be able to work up a post in a bit. Kind of wanted to just let lil_geek get in a post and hopefully have HKG get in an intro post but I know she can busy but we'll see.

I'm here for the rest of the day, so if anything goes up, I can reply pretty quickly. I go back to work tomorrow, so I'll be limited to only posting at night for a while.

same, i go back to working at the pub tomorrow so i'll only be on early monrings and very late evening.

Aye kk. Yeah probably will get something after lunch. Then I gotta find my evil machinations book and start working a way to tug the strings together hehe.

Oh yes, well perhaps not so much evil as dark in nature or the darkest rungs of morally grey :p

And now my hand falls off from that post haha.

Sorry if I was holding things up but seriously you can't expect things to go smoothly on Friday the 13th.

You didn't hold anything up. I think things are still enough in the setup stage that no one can hold things up.

yeah no worries geek. Still definitely in the setup to early stages and just trying to plant seeds of deception, lies, cheating and betrayals. <insert evil laughter>. Might be able to get in a post in a bit after some Workaholics

Hahaha awesome. Totally wish I could have gone there now. Didn't realize Martin would actually be there that's really cool but now he needs to go back and start working on the next book hehe.

Just a note looks like we may not be seeing much from HotKittyGirl at least for a good time or possibly longer unfortunately. Will likely setup a few things maybe for the first rounds of a melee in a bit and more little seeds to setup a even that I think will help build the group together or force team killing we'll see XD.

Hope everyone is enjoying the thread as much as I am. The mega posts can be a interesting thing but I'm enjoying it and working hard to make sure to build some little twists and turns here and there. We're still open as well in case anyone knows anyone who might be looking.

Probably won't post till after work since I'm still lagging in some other areas but once I get back home I'll see how things have gone.

.

You can tell by the way that George conducts the panel that he loves doing this kind of thing; he likes smaller cons, such as Worldcon, even more. I think that his interaction with the fans helps to recharge his batteries, so to speak, and so it might do more towards impelling him to write more than just sitting in front of his compuyer sometimes does.

Also, for 2011 at least, A Dance with Dragons had just been released, and his publishers insisted that he attend SDCC.

Cool cool. Hey Tcost could you do me a favor. I find the quotes in post kind of distracting. If there are a couple phrases you want to lead into your own character stuff feel free but I just find the quoting kind of detracts a bit.
