UPDATE:
Due to some additional interest, this thread is now open again to a small number, 3 to be exact, all applications can be freely posted here in the thread, but only three will be accepted.

I've been having quite the urge to play in a nice big epic campaign, slay some dragons and the like, and since the universe has yet to align and present me with an easy way to do so, I've taken matters in to my own hands.

This is a casting call to anyone who would like to take part in a thread using a loose version of pathfinder/DnD3.5 (some rolls can be skipped to keep things running smoothly) If there turns out to be some interest then I'll write up the background material and we can all start making characters.

I'm hoping for about 7-9 people tops, with an even split of men and women, but if there does turn out to be enough people wanting to play then things can be arranged.

The Story So Far:
For three generations the lands of Alora have been locked in the grips of war, a petty feud that escalated out of control and engulfed all the known lands, with even the other continents taking the opportunity to strike at the outlying kingdoms. But for the first time in almost 500 years, there is an emperor, and through blood and steel he has brought an uneasy peace to the land, many are unhappy about this, mostly warlords who had carved out their own empires that they now couldn’t control, but for the most part things were looking up.

This sudden peace had the problem of leaving many a professional soldier out of work, sure there was always call for such people, but in the wake of war there were simply too many people with far too few jobs. The emperor, in his infinite wisdom, solved this before his rise to power, using an invention that had come about during the war, a mighty airship, to send an expedition across the sea to find the lost lands of Rania.

Now that the war has been over for almost two years, the expedition has returned, with proof that Rania is more than just some fable in ancient scrolls. The trip had been measured in years for them, but thanks to improvements in the design of airships the journey there would take just over a month. So now every sellsword and glory hound with a few gold to buy the ticket it takes to board an airship is on his way to Rainia and their chance to become a legend and retire on a bed of gold.

The basics
www.d20pfsrd.com
The above link contains all basic rules for pathfinder, if you need help with anything feel free to ask, either I or one of out more than helpful players will set you right.

Lore

History:
The calendar for the '3rd age' goes back a little over a thousand years.
No solid information exists for the '2nd age', it was a time of chaos and lawlessness where much of civilizations remains were destroyed, nobody truly know long long it went for, as no one from before it still lives.
The near mythical '1st age' predates the gods themselves, or at least the gods that still live, it was from writings of this time that the legend of Rania came to be, and its from relics that airships were derived.

Religion:
There are 2 sects of gods, there are the 'new gods', those who still influence the mortal coil, and the 'old gods', who predate the second age, and while there are those who worship the old gods, there is no proof of their existence as there is with the new gods.

Location: Rania:
There are so many legends about Rania that its impossible to say for certain which of them are true, or at least are based in fact, so characters could have heard any wild tale you could imagine.

Location: Hexith'taul:
The intercontinental port city.
Those who understand Dragonic would notice the name resembles the words 'Doomed City', and that the title after the kings name on the hospitality papers was also Dragonic, translating to 'lord of the sky.'
The architecture is predominately well worn stone, with a few patches of wood here and there. While there are a few garden strips, the ground so far has been well paved stone.
Hexith'taul apparently has an army, a very well funded army by the looks of the soldiers who had been working the cordon at the port.
The population appears to be very wide and varied, with far more even numbers of different races on the streets.
The maps sold are rather basic, showing a black outline of the city major districts and a few landmarks, the port district and the royal palace for example, as well as the immediate surroundings outside of the city. Studying it further or finding a higher quality example may reveal more.
The guidebook, which is rather small and designed to be as close to pocket size as they could make it, mainly details the laws of the city, which are all rather standard, though it does point out slavery is legal, not that it elaborates the degree of it. It does however elaborate on what the general said at the initial announcement, there is no central law enforcement, different areas are controlled by various enforcers, such as mercenary guilds, and all judgment and prosecution is done independently.
In the back it also lists a few tourist attractions, the coliseum (shown on map), the royal gardens (also on map) and the theater (not listed on map) are the only ones that sound like they aren’t pointless tourist traps though.

Haven't written here in a long-ass time. And though I think it would be better if we just RPed and skipped the dice rolls, I'd be game for it. I'm thinking I'd be a rogue, the debonair swashbuckling kind.

I might well be interested too.

Since somebody has already called dibs on the swashbuckling rogue, then I'd probably go with the archetypical fighter.

Hello there!

I would be interested in playing along if you guys would have me. I'm a sucker for these kinds of threads.

Well, well, well, look what the kitten brought...

I´m up for this if you´ll have me aboard. What can we expect in terms of rules and party balance?

I've attempted to do that before, things collapsed in to arguements often, that said, I've also tried this with all the dice, it got complicated and verry bogged down by the dice.

Which is why I want to try a kind of half and half thing, a couple of limitations on character creation based upon level, then some very basic rolls, for example, if your character is in a fight, just do 1 roll or something to that effect and if you pass then he's dead.

I might well be interested too.

Good to hear, but theres nothing stopping there from being 2 swashbucklers.

Still getting the rule system down in my head, but it will be a very cutback version for the sake of speed and ease of use. Party balance should mostly be covered by character creation.

I'm interested as well.

Glad to have you aboard.

So here's the concept I'm knocking around.

Scully is a handsome but disheveled thief and ne'er-do-well. He grew up in the slums of a large seaport city and soon found he was naturally faster and more agile than the other children. He developed a reputation as a daredevil, which may be what led to his ego. Over the years, he turned to petty theft to get by and was eventually noticed and recruited by a local thieves' guild.

Haven't really thought of what incited him to go adventuring just yet, but I kind of like the idea of playing a cocky character who isn't as funny as he thinks he is.

Any thoughts as to level, available races, and rules expansions?

I only have access to the online SRD, mind you, so I may need some hep with the mechanics of character creation, if we are sticking to the rules.

The story should have a few hooks you can use for the why he started adventuring.

So far I'm thinking 4th level (including LA and racial HD) and any material you can lay your hands on, though I'll be using the pathfinder stuff as core rather than regular 3.5.

I'd give you some online resources I like to use, but I'm currently stuck posting from my phone and the links are on my computer, rather annoying that.

And after long last, the first post now has some background about the threads story, or at least the hook to get you in to it.

With level 4, I'm thinking fighter-cleric, a big red-haired fellowwith a booming laugh and a lust for life, equally happy on the field of battle or hoisting flagons in the tavern.

edit - having just read up a bit, an Asterion sounds like fun if you are allowing them.

Are you planning to use the deities in the SRD or do you have your own ideas?

Okay, so with Scully I'm thinking that the colony expedition was a fortunate matter of timing as he pissed off the guildmaster by refusing to kill a rival. Scully's a lot of things, but he's not a murderer. Unfortunately, this meant he was dead meat. He spent a week in hiding before a friend giving him shelter told him about the expedition. Scully put on a disguise, picked a few pockets to gather together the money to leave, hopped aboard the airship and never looked back.

I do have an idea or two for a nice spin on the gods, but it'll fit with any god you want to use, you just have to change the god background so that they are younger, so as long as you don't have your eyes set on a creator god it'll work.

And Asterions look fine to me, the bonus is no bigger than a dwarf, but bare in mind that digitigrade legs possesses some armouring issues, in things like light armour it wouldn't matter, but with heavy and some medium armours there would be a minor price increase... Cant for the life of me remember what it is though, I search through my massive pile of 3.5 references for where I remember this from.

Edit:
Ok, looked in to it, technically there is no price increase, as it only specifies non humanoids, and Asterions are humanoid, but I'm going to make the call that any heavy armour costs a little more, as it would have to be altered, call it 15% price increase.

I like it, seems like it would fit with the character and the guild, verry nice.

And I'll have character creation stuff up later tonight, but the basics are 4th level, 6k gold, 35 point buy (starting from 8s).

Starting from 8s shifts everything down 2? ie:

8 (0)
9 (1)
10 (2)
11 (3)
12 (5)
13 (7)
14 (10)
15 (13)
16 (17)
17 (21)

Or am I confused?

All skills start at 8, each point costs only one point, a PC is a paragon of his or her kind, so I don't like the idea of scaling stats during pointbuy. This number system better emulates a slightly above average 4 dice stat roll, the average roll on a die is 3.5, add in the 4th die and its pretty easy to consistently roll something between 12-14, 35 points is just under all 14s.

Ok sounds good!

Got room for a somewhat naive, but very enthusiastic novice Paladin who's somewhat bewildered and embarrassed by all these steaming hot and sexy female teammates who keep flaunting their tight bodies and pervy minds at him?

I'm always on board if kitten needs more. :D

When you're involved, I always have room.

That said, from this post and onwards, I will be closing new submissions of characters until we have confirmation from all the currently interested parties.

Nice, I'm sure it will be very... Perilous. God I'm going to hell for that.

Alrighty, and now we have the character sheet, formatted for easy use in a notepad file. When posting a character sheet, please inclose it in code tags, makes it far simpler to read.

Everything is pretty straight forward, the only things I can think of that I need to mention is HP, traits and flaws.

HP is maxed for PCs, if you get d10, you get 10, because you're a player character.

Traits, a list of examples can be found here, you can have up to 2, but only ones that fit with your characters back story. If none fit, or you have an idea for one, post it and we'll see.

Flaws, basically the opposite of a feat, taken at character creation they allow for as many bonus feats as flaws to be taken, some examples can be found here.

Also, for those of you without an insane amount of obscure equipment knowledge, here's a helpful link filled with indispensable adventuring gear.

That said, from this post and onwards, I will be closing new submissions of characters until we have confirmation from all the currently interested parties.

Confirmed, one clueless human male paladin! CharSheet on the way.

Does this work? The only thing I think isn't exactly kosher is that Elf Curve Blade doesn't technically equal Giant Scimitar. However, I figure since this will be more about yiffing NPCs and each other than being longbearded grognards, it should be okay :D

Taking very much after the Sun Goddess he lives his life for, Xarkl is a little darker of skin than your typical Aloran. Orphaned as a result of the vicious war which has gripped the land for so long, the tiny Southern infant was taken in by the Elves of the Desert Shrine of the Sun, and raised by the gentle priestesses there. Under their quiet tutelage, Xarkl quickly learned the language and culture of his adoptive guardians, with a careful emphasis on the fabled Alta Anar, the Ray of The Dawning Sun, the rare giant curved scimitar of the Elven Sarenraen paladins. Additionally, he displayed a shocking aptitude in the crafting of all manner of spun-sugar confections and iced desserts as sacred offerings, much to the delight of many of the novice acolytes, and, truth be told, the Grand Abbess herself.

Xarkl is a loyal and steadfast companion in both travel and battle, and though his slender frame gives some hint as to his nimble movements, it utterly conceals his raw physical strength. He is exceedingly humble and polite, and fairly quick-witted to boot. His greatest asset, of course, is his winning smile and boyish charm. Everyone who catches the merest glimpse of that cannot help but forgive him his obliviousness on matters as diverse as whether he's walking towards a spiked pit or hurtling headlong into an obvious goblin ambush.

Sadly, Xarkl's rapid ascent as a defender of the Temple he loves so much has suddenly collided with a tidal rush of strangeness. Lately, at the holy dawn service, he finds his gaze slipping from the Goddess' holy light blasting past the magnificent amber and topaz window to the shapely posteriors of the genuflecting priestesses. The giggles and blushing looks of the acolytes are starting to evoke a strange tightness in his throat, not to mention his breeches. The Abbess herself, nearly nine hundred years old but not looking a day past twenty-five, is starting to regard him with a weirdly predatory gaze. He'd probably be horrified to know that all the senior priestesses have made a habit of magically scrying into his ablutions, carefully recording the images of his supple young body on memory crystals. It is now very easy for them to look at him fully armoured, and know exactly how his uncut brown cock and lean buttocks sway beneath the steel plate.

Desperate to clear his head and regain his composure as a noble Paladin of Sarenrae, Xarkl has undertaken to receive the Abbess' permission to venture on a quest to the outside world. Greatly bemused, she has elected to indulge the Temple's favoured son, granting him leave to head off on his expedition, the wails of the acolytes notwithstanding. Hopefully, adventuring with a band of goodly folk of the land to fend off evil will keep him away from whatever it is that is filling him such peculiar new feelings.

Got a question for yah Kitten. Since you are using the Pathfinder rules here basically I was wondering how Gunslingers fit into your world (if at all). If they due what exactly is the level of firearms for the world too? I'm not sure how much access you have to the Pathfinder stuff. While on the computer the Pathfinder SRD is my well-used lover. They have the firearms section right here if you want to peruse it: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/firearms/

And Locastor, your PM's are turned off. :/

Yeah, between SRDs, online refrences and my insane amount of downloaded files, I have access to virtualy everything. I have not however, read the gun rules, as I've never looked in to them or used them. If you want I'll look in to it and get back to you, but I hadnt really been thinking of guns when I planned this.

Also, I now know that I cant read codeblocks from my phone, so Locastor, I'll reserve judgement for when I get home to my PC.
