"Shop 'Til You Drop"

Introduction

IC Thread

Terrorists have released a deadly virus in Eugene, Oregon, causing the Governor to declare a state of emergency and put the whole of the Southern Willamette Valley on "lock down". Businesses and schools are ordered closed, people are instructed to stay indoors, and the highways and freeways leading in an out of the area are closed by the Police, supported by National Guard troops, who -- with medical professionals -- are slowly but surely screening anyone on the move for signs of the virus.

The date is January 13, 2012 ... a Friday, of course.

Our story takes place primarily inside the Springfield's "Gateway Mall", situated next to Interstate-5, which separates the city from its larger sibling, Eugene. Just before opening Saturday morning, as word spreads across the airwaves of the horror beginning to overtake the community, the Mall's entrances are locked, the individual stores are ordered to keep their gates down and doors closed, the ventilation systems are turned off, and the normally unarmed Security Staff -- all five of them -- are armed by one of the shopping center's newest tenants, the outdoor outfitters, Cabela's, and ordered to keep those inside in their shops and those outside the mall out altogether.

The initial thought by the General Manager is that by day's end -- when the Authorities have gained control of the situation out in the Eastern half of Lane Country -- the Mall doors will be opened and its occupants will go home to be with their families. At the worst, he assumes, the Mall and its dozens of stores will lose two, maybe three days of business...

Yeah ... not gonna happen.

Instead, as the virus sweeps uncontrollably throughout the State of Oregon and beyond, those inside the Mall realize that they are safer inside here, and that -- to stay alive -- they are going to be here for a long time ... possibly a very, very long time.

<<<<< >>>>>

The Basic Story I am Looking For

1. I don't have a specific plot in mind. This is essentially a story about how those people inside the mall -- and to a lesser extent, those outside the mall -- interact with one another. Will the Owners, Managers, and Employees of the various stores work together to keep one another happy and safe...? Or will turf wars break out over the available resources -- food, beds, clothes, weapons -- leading to arguments, physical conflicts, and possibly even deaths?

2. I will, on occasion, toss out big twists, but for the most part the story will be driven by you, the writers. The only "story" that I am anxious to see is how characters will use what they have available to them: will the Grocery Department Manager at Target distribute food to anyone who needs it, or will he/she want something in trade; will "Cabelas" offer sleeping bags to everyone; will "Sears" and "1-2-3 Funish" provide mattresses, comfortable chairs, and bedding; will the Food Court cafes cook for all; will people still value the American Dollar, or will they want to barter for goods instead; and will the jewelry stores be able to trade diamonds and gold for food and bottle water when no one knows whether diamonds and gold will ever mean anything, to anyone, anywhere ever again?

3. Writers are invited to play 1 or more roles. I would prefer if each of you wrote a store owner/manager/employee and either a second one of these or a customer; but no one is required to write more than one character. There will be other character opportunities as well, including the security guards, the old folks who use the mall as an indoor track for their cardio-exercises, the homeless guy who arrives at opening and leaves at closing every day and sleeps under the nearby overpass, and many more.

4. I like to see writers use initiative and be creative, but don't do something major that will effect most of the other writers' characters without first running it by the Host. You wouldn't like it if you spent the next week or so building up this wonderful story about survival inside your store, only to have another writer say he set fire to his shop and it spread to yours ... right?

5. This IS LitEROTICA ... so I expect that there will be some sexually based themes -- in fact, I'm hoping for it and excited to get involved in them -- but because this is the "ORP" forum, and it's a little less sexually based that the "SRP" forum, sex scenes are to be conducted in a separate thread and linked back here, so writers and readers have an opportunity to pass them up if they wish without missing the rest of the story. (I will explain the process for doing this in another reply.)

Character Name:
Julian Becker

Gender; Age:
Male; 23

Place in Mall:
Store Manager, "The Calendar Club".

Details about Current Mall Situation:
"The Calendar Club" has little to offer in trade to the other stores. It sells calendars (paper and electronic) and specialty games (board, card, etc.)

Personal Information:
Single college student (Mathematics, education).

Moved to Eugene 3 years ago for college (Lane Community College, and now the University of Oregon).

His family is on the Oregon Coast in Depoe Bay.

Character Direction Ideas.
Because his store has little to offer, Julian will offer himself, in a way.

He knows every Mall employee by name; and he knows a little bit about each of them as well. This knowledge will serve him well as he searches for ways to get the "resources" he needs to remain comfortable while trapped in the Mall.

(More to come; just establishing the Profile for now.)

Gender; Age:
Female; 20.

Place in Mall:
Assistant Manager, "The Living Dead".

Details about Current Mall Situation:
Left in charge of store while Manager is away for training in South Carolina.

She was just recently promoted and feels she isn't completely ready to handle the store on her own.

Personal Information:
On again, off again boyfriend (available character, 14 Jan 2012) works at the sporting good store; things are starting to get a bit sour.

She had plans to go to college for nursing, but quit after 2 semesters.

Character Direction Ideas.
She tries to make the most of everything.

Her little amount of nursing background may be helpful.

She tries to keep everyone in good spirits.

Anything that didn't fall into a category above:

Character Name:
Richard "Rick the Brick" Bard

Gender; Age:
Male, 35

Place in Mall:
Senior Security Officer

Details about Current Mall Situation:
With the General Manager "off site", Rick is the most senior Mall employee on the premises.

Personal Information:
Was a line backer for the Junction City (Oregon) Tigers (1991-5). Made the State All-Star Team (1992-95); the school reached the Championship game twice ('93,'94) and won the second try.

Was recruited by several Universities but chose to stay local at the University of Oregon, only to discover he had a heart defect which ended his career his first year.

With his college scholarship ripped from his hands, he became a County Sheriff. But when he shot and killed a 16 year old burglar -- rightfully, it was determined -- he found he couldn't shake the trauma and took a job with the Security Department of the Mall, which is an unarmed position.

Character Direction Ideas.
Rick is popular in the mall; the girls like him, and the guys respect him. With the General Manager's absence and the promotion of Rick to the man in charge, he is going to find himself no longer everyone's buddy but instead everyone's cop on the beat ... but without the actual authority to be such. There will be times when people do what he says and times when they don't; we'll see how he handles this.

Rick was being chased by a couple of the women in the mall; and, at the same time, he was chasing a couple of them as well. They are all here, which may turn out to be interesting. (These positions are all open, btw.)

Whether he likes it or not, Rick is again armed with a fire arm; when the mayhem outside began, the Mall's General Manager ordered him to go to Cabela's and buy fire arms on the Mall's credit card. He now has a 9mm on his hip and three long rifles -- a 12 gauge shotgun, a semi-automatic assault-style rifle, and a .30-06 rifle scope -- in the Security Office.

Your Literotica ID and Preferred Nickname:
Mephistophelily (aka Lily or Mephy)

Normal RP Time: Usually on more toward early/mid evening, my 6-7 pm til about 10-11 pm. I do work weekends, so I may pop in via phone then. (Short posts. Phone keyboards suck.)

Tell us about your sexual writing preference:
I'm open to just about anything within Lit limits. I do like writing bondage and some coercion scenes, but also like the more "vanilla" scenes as well.
